Carrera D124 light mods for 917K and 512S

Part of the reason I love Carrera products is because their attention to detail to make their cars look as close as possible to the real car. One of the features which allows them to do this is the lights which are standard on most of their Digital products. I found a couple of cars which I like a lot and wanted to improve them a little by adding light where missing.
Difference between Scalextric and Carrera

Carrera Digital 132 vs 124 - Ford GT Race Car
มุมมอง 46K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Carrera has developed toys and hobbies for all ages, in this video you will see the difference between the big boys slot cars and the youngters one.
Not a fair comparison when you are a Carrera fan. Many digital cars from Scalextric come with the chip
both are excellent. the choice is yours and you can't really make a bad choice of the two. other than that, it's all opinion, and we all know about that.
Does the 124 have a full front axle? In the video it's hidden under plastic.
Salut my friend super car super video subscribe subscribe ....
"racing police?" Is that actually a thing?
I think in the UK they like scalextric and the rest of the world Carrera 😅
Put magnets on the bumpers so it'll Bounce and not crash ..
who gives a flying fudge about packaging!
Very nice work!
th-cam.com/video/HLJssn8CH2E/w-d-xo.html ,, SCALEAUTO Challenge Championship ,12. hours… interesting test 16 international teams here in ZALLA, I recorded 1 day… I hope well
will the 1/32 car run with the 18volt power supply. on carrera track
The problem of carrera is the weith
Nice job. If you want to change the apparent colour-temperature of your headlights, you can use stain glass window paint (available from craft shops) of Humbrol produce a range of yellow stains that'll colour the light. Failing that, you could use coloured plastic film inside the headlamp covers. These techniques also have the advantage of reducing the glare from those LED bulbs, so they're not overly bright for the era. Hope this helps you make those excellent looking cars look even better. Rick
Excellent comparison! Thank you.
Personally I prefer scalextrics due to their cheaper prices and in my opinion I like the scale X track more
Analog and digital. What is the difference?
Analog can only fit two cars on a track at a time and is limited to some of the features of digital, to race more than 2 cars you would need another set of track and controllers, Digital can have up 6 cars as well as have lane changing all on the same track, pitting and fueling, as well as braking
Thank you for this informative and detailed video. I too am a Carrera fan. We welcome and look forward to your next video.
Thank You from the USA. I enjoyed your video. EXCELLENT!
Scalextric e migliore di Carrera in quanto si rompe di meno. Carrera e troppo delicata e costa molto.
It seems that with the bigger cars you would need a bigger track.
if there was a higher level of detail I would upgrade to 124, somewhat disappointing considering the market on the cars are double or triple the cost of 132. note: toggle switch on digital models is not for polarity. its to enable evolution operation.
Sorry, but this video is correct, see below a copy paste from the oficial Carrera FAQ: Can Digital 132 cars also be run in analogue mode, that is on an Evolution circuit? Yes; by pushing down the plunger on the hand-held control set 3 times, Digital 132 cars can be re-set to analogue for the Evolution circuit. According to direction of running, it may also be necessary to change over the switch on the underside of the car
@@guillermomora6178 the switch is not specifically for polarity the way it is for evolution models. It’s a digital to analog switch on the 132 cars. At least that’s what Dave from slot car news official stated in a previous video. And he’s an ex carrera employee
What is a Carrera so slow on a joysway track?
Maybe because it's a usb track?
Beautiful information
Thank you! Just what I needed to know!
carrera =heavy overenginered toys for kids, Scalextric ligther, faster can be made to perform even at clublevel. huge difference without magnets.
Scalextric miles behind the times. Their tracks dont sell so good anymore. The weight difference isnt that big a deal....not everybody is racing these things to make a living,
You can buy a digital chip for Carrera Evolution car.
So do the Carrera cars work on the scalextric track ?
yes if you trim the guide (carrera often comes with a guide extra for other tracks) but dont expect Scalextric speed ;-)
Scalextric do actual digital cars; the digital ready ones like you showed are so that you can run them on the old track and upgrade if you wish to.
Can you convert a Carrera car to fit on Scalextric track. My son just bought a 1:32 scale Carrera Audi DTM car and we've just found that the steering guide is way to long on the Carrera and gets stuck with the angle of the track. Can you switch the brade set up to a shorter Scalextric version?
Yes if you trim the guide just use a sharp hobbyknife (carrera often comes with a guide extra for other tracks) but dont expect Scalextric speed ;-)
@@johnnyfuglestad349 I did cut it down. I used a hot Stanley knife and a little bit of light grade sandpaper. Did thd job. Are Carrera cars slower generally?
@@culfy118 yes carrera is very solid- great for kids, but heavy and slow compared to scalextric-wich in turn is slower than NSR, Slot it and revo slot. as for real cars you get what you are willing to pay. of the mainstream (cheap)manufacttures scalextric is generaly fastest.
@@johnnyfuglestad349 thanks
I got a Carrera Go set by accident (wanted to gift it to the kid of a good friend but was told no when it was already in my hands, and too heavy to return ship). Now that was fun and all and I got the buzz again and my old man did too. We wish to have a bit more of a realistic experience though with eventually simulated pitstops, pace cars and all that jazz. Now comes the issue... my father has had a stroke and he last half of his sight. So he has to scan left to right to make an image for himself, so you can imagine that those Carrera Go cars are just way too fast for him. Which in our situation would you recommend speed and control wise? Also what's the floor size you have to take into account for that recommended set?
Scalextric started the slot car racing. I used to love them as a kid, especially when they had slicks to interchange for F1.
how can i tell if my second hand carerra car has headlights
Who cares about the container?
Collectors! Collectors care about the container very much. New in the box is worth much more than bashed and thrashed about.
Good video ! Like of course Have you seen this? Scalextric in Spain. In English, Spanish and Catalan I share link :) th-cam.com/video/hML4ouvEiqQ/w-d-xo.html
Once you experience the build quality and performance gap between these and Slot.it , Sideways and NSR, cars, Scalextric and Carrera are just toys. For a very small increase in price there is (round!) alloy rims, metal gears, adjustable axles, soft tyres that grip, decent powerful motors and a range of cheap upgrade/replacement parts to make a fast slot-car even faster. You would need to fit your own digital chip if that's your thing.
So would those other brands work with the Scalextric digital track?
@@X-Prime123 They will fit on the track but you will need to buy and fit a digital chip.
Hi! I'm unable to locate your update on what kind of lights you used & where you bought them. Thank you
scalextric makes "slotcars" caarera makes TOY cars thats the difference
Carrera makes real tracks, scalextric needs a major redesign. Flimsy and narrow, wont take 1/24 cars. Dont have all the features the carrera tracks have. It matters that's why carrera sells so well. Real slot cars would be a slot.it if your going racing.
my Scalextric Ferrari F40 from the early 90s has brake lights that activate when you back off on the throttle, havent seen other ones with it as most of my other cars are SCX but i assume it isnt uncommon
The only other cars I know of that have this are Carrera Exclusiv and Carrera digital cars when on a digital track
Quit racing with Toys. Buy a SLOT.IT slot car!
Take a drink of booze every time he says um.
I picked up the Carrera digital 1/32 in 2007 and never looked back.
I hesitate to buy a Carrera set or Scalextric. It is very difficult to choose
Do what I did, I got both, problem solved.
Where is a good place to get replacement parts ?
You forgot to mention Hornby car's are much faster than Carrera and Hornby tyres aren't useless after 8mths, we very rarely race carrera cars at my slot car club because of these reasons
Also have to take in to account that scalextric is much cheaper then Carrera. I never understood Carrera prices here in the uk the Carrera digital cars are getting on for £80 a car compared to scalextric £45. Big difference.
I don't catch the message by this video... but it helps to get sleepy!
I’m trying to get into Carrera slot cars and I don’t know if I should get the 124 or 132 version. Is one faster than another? Also does the diffuser and rear wing work?
Very useful, thank you. if I was to start over again, I would go with Carrera. I started with Scalextric in 1967 and it is far too late to switch now 😊. Thanks again for the video.
Eddie de Beer why you would change to Carrera?
symbian1530 : long answer to a quick question :) My thoughts, subjectively of course ... While I love Scalextric, I think Carrera has the digital thing so much better organised. They evolved into digital format seamlessly, as indicated by their 132 racing track system. Apart from a variety of lane changers, the functionality of their cars and CU have been designed from the ground up. In comparison, Scalextric have been scrambling to catch up, experiencing endless delays with their ARC system. Everything still smacks of digital being an “add-on”. The contrast is quite stark when viewing videos of both systems in action. The Carrera cars, with the ability to turn lights on when stationery and brake lights (essential for accident-free racing IMO) just seem so much more real. The variety of track designs, including corner lane changers that simulates racing lines, are seemingly endless. I have loved Scalextric since getting my first set in 1967, but they let their advantage slip for too many years and now are scrambling to catch up. It is difficult to find certain pieces, even simple ones such as straight track borders (apparently produced only in limited runs whenever they are able to do so). Scaley had fantastic track pieces in the past (such as that glorious Goodwood chicane that I had save up for monts to be able to buy), not to mention endless track-side goodies. While I race only ARCPro now, I still own all my tracks (including the Goodwood chicane) and 52 cars (most in mint condition) collected over the past 60 years. I applaud Scalextric for trying its best to get back to where it once was ... I just hope it is not too late. I support them whenever possible by buying new cars and following them on social media, but they are facing an uphill struggle.
@@edteach3r I disagree, the arc pro works well and it a good system. The carrera digital is hard to purchase in most countries. Scalextric is literally everywhere.
@@iflyrcmike you both make different points, but both are correct. it is easier to get into Scalextric due to higher availability, I also feel Scalextric is more varied as has more options, but Carrera is better quality, Scalextric cars should come with metal wheels and bushes, it's annoying that they don't and you have to swap them out to make the cars more decent to run or race. I like the OP I have had Scalextric since I was a kid, and if I was to start again I would search out Carrera instead and only purchase a few of the Scalextric cars and convert and tune them. I do race digital Scalextric sets and I will upgrade to ARC when I can be bothered to shell out the £550 quid for the platinum set, but as I have all the previous digital gear, I'm in no rush to do this as my digital set is very adequate. I have the left and right hand pitlane sets, display panel, 6 car starting grid, and refuel pit stop timer etc... and you don't need an app to play it, so I feel it's more accessible and quicker to start racing.
I got into slot cars about 2 weeks ago and never knew my cars came with replacement parts. Thanks for the video! Happy racing.
awesome videos. you should make more if you get time maybe show off the track you race with
