Shopsmith 510 Conversion and Set Up
Time to upgrade my O.G. Shopsmith Mark V Model 500 to a Model 510. There's also a lot of set up needed to get this machine working its best, so I go through all the steps I took to get this working just right. Things I adjust or align in this video are: Main Table, Blade Guard, Miter Gauge, Fence, Lathe, Way Tubes, and Table Stops.

Shopsmith Mark V Tables/Accessories Restoration
มุมมอง 9K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Part III of my Shopsmith Mark V, Model 500 restoration. I'm restoring the tables, rip fence, pistol grip miter gauge, and some of the accessories. I'm on the final stretch of this Greenie restoration and it's coming along great! Stick around for Part IV where I do a 510 conversion and set everything up. Thanks for watching!
Shopsmith Powerplant Restoration
มุมมอง 12K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Part II of my Shopsmith Mark V, Model 500 restoration. I'm rebuilding the Powerplant in this video. I completely stripped down the whole unit, replaced some bearings, cleaned up the sheaves, corrected the speed control, repainted everything, polished the external parts, and reassembled it. It's working great now, and I'm nearly done with the whole restoration! Stick around for Part III where I ...
Shopsmith Base Restoration
มุมมอง 19K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I'm restoring a 1955 Shopsmith Mark V Model 500 "Greenie" I recently bought. I'm hoping that, once complete, this can replace many of the cheaper tools I currently use, as well as free up some valuable space in the garage. This is the first video, where I address all the issues with the base assembly. I want this to be a good restoration, not a perfect one. I want to use this tool as intended, ...
Custom JamJar Amp Box
มุมมอง 2193 ปีที่แล้ว
Here's my take on a custom enclosure for a JamJar Amp. These little amps put out a lot of sound for such a small package. The price is pretty good, too! The fun part of this for me was building the DIY kit, then incorporating it into a custom enclosure. I had a box that used to hold some whiskey stones and a vintage panel mounted volt meter. Here's how it came together. Thanks for watching! Che...
Crappy Stand for a Crappy Anvil! - Blacksmithing on a budget!
มุมมอง 764 ปีที่แล้ว
I needed a stand for the "high quality" anvil I picked up from our favorite budget tool shop. I used an old railroad tie I had sitting in my back yard for the last year, a whole bunch of deck screws, some RTV, old engine head bolts, and that's about it! Didn't spend a dollar for this, and that's perfectly fitting for the quality anvil it's made for! It actually turned out pretty stable, so I'm ...
Relaxing Drill Brace Renewal
มุมมอง 1504 ปีที่แล้ว
I got this drill brace from my dad, who got it from his dad. It was in decent shape for its age, it just needed a little work. I didn't want to make this perfect, since it is sentimental to me. I also intend to use it (it's still a perfectly good tool, after all), as my grandfather and dad would intend! Hope you enjoy, and thanks for watching!

Talharpa Build Part 3

I finally finished the Talharpa! After failing at DIY strings, trying the wrong cello strings, making a less than awesome bow, and fixing all those issues, it's complete! My apologies for the horrible playing at the end! It's a very unique instrument, not as easy to play as it looks!
*FAIL!* Throwing Knife v1.0 - Didn't go as expected!
มุมมอง 364 ปีที่แล้ว
I attempted to take mild steel and turn it into a viable throwing knife. Mild steel won't hold an edge, so I attempted several methods of case hardening the blade to help it retain some sharpness. I almost succeeded... I gave up on this being a functional piece about 2/3 of the way through and decided to just finish it to see what other hurdles I'd face in the next attempt. I learned a lot and ...

Thanks for checking out my new channel, MattMakes! In this video, I finish the build of the Talharpa. Mistakes were made, issues were fixed, and "features" were added. Did you have to use aluminum specific primer?

    Just a suggestion.. instead of using twine to keep tension on the glue up, use 1/4" surgical tubing.. it can be stretched while tying and will keep a lot of pressure on the slats.

    On the back face of the lower guard (where it meets the head stock,) there's a set screw. You should use this to adjust the guard in and out to align the riving knife to the blade, so the blade can be fully seated on the shaft. It's a better, safer method than moving the blade on the shaft to align it to the riving knife.

    You did a great job on this bud. If you haven’t already done it paste wax will keep the aluminum gleaming and pleasure of use on the saw table and slides. I took a rust drill press column to bare metal shined it up waxed it 8 months ago her in Florida hum it y central. Still looks great. Moves very well when adjusting hight. I do all my saw tables plainer tables even my chop saw for easy of use(less drag ) and protection from rust on cast iron and corrosion on aluminum. Easiest best thing I picked up along the way. Keep up the good work.

    • @mattmakes6065
      @mattmakes6065 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stripped screws are a pain. If it's a button head screw you can try to cut a slot for a flathead. Otherwise you might have to drill and use an easy out. Good luck!

    • @LowerLights81481
      @LowerLights81481 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mattmakes6065 unfortunately it’s the hex set screws on the inside of the cam on the Shopsmith wheel assembly. I think they used locktite. I was going to try using an easy out but not sure that would do any good with the locktite.

    • @mattmakes6065
      @mattmakes6065 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can try getting some penetrating oil in there first. Hit it with some heat. Heat should loosen the loctite. An easy out is still the best way if you can't get any purchase on it.
