I run LGB G-scale trains on my garden railway. Mainly the European outline stuff.
Also enjoy converting to DCC and other upgrades. And making videos of that.

Are you by an Ocean? I like that wave sound in the back ground!!
Richard, thanks for putting this out there as it saved me a lot of time. A couple of comments: I've got a 2020 Prado 150 series. 1. The right hand side was pretty straight forward as you covered. The LHS was a little trickier. I found that by removing the 3 bolts holding the bash plate near where the bracket was going to mount meant I was able to maneuver it around a bit better. I also found that the LHS side-step could be mounted into the 1st screw hole of the bash plate. 2. I also made a simple cardboard template for the mounting brackets so I could more easily see the correct screw holes. Seemed to work a treat. Thanks again. Geoff
Doing similar to my LGB with loksound esu XL decoders
Excellent thank you Richard good to see videos on LGB upgrades
Interesting video as I have done the same job on a 2071D. For the motorblock I left most of the brass strip's in place and just direct wired the motor and insulated the brass strip's near those connections. So far the track connections all seem reliable without having to direct wire them. Until I saw this video I had no idea how much work that saved me.
Hi Rich, yes certainly could be done your way, in fact probably better. But I started off cutting the strips at the top as I didn't know what was in the block, and then couldn't go back. And I did that as I didn't want to open the block and remove the wheels and rods. The 2071D also had the three strips system, with the third strip for lights, capacitors etc. confusing things for me. But later I found that it wasn't so hard! So, a learning curve for me. When I did my first loco, a Stainz, I stripped it out, rewired it, and it worked well. So, I am no expert. But I try to show what is in there, what can be done, the traps and pitfalls. I can certainly find the pitfalls! Regards, Richard.
@@richardhenderson4776 yes it just part of the fun and thanks for sharing. I had to snip some of the brass strips away in the motorblock to insulate the motor and actually pulled out one of the strips going down to the wheels. Then I thought about track connection and I slipped the brass strip back in and luckily the connection still worked reliably - then I knew to leave the other strips alone. Incredibly well built locos! By the way there is room for a full size pulsed smoker up the from with a bit of dremel work. Next project!
@@richlam6356 Yes, agree. I like DCC conversion and enhancing the locos as much as running. And agree re smoke generator. I have put the ESU 'small', #54678 smoker in there. (40x25x30mm). The pulsed fan is great. I am doing a running day video which will show. (I use ESU decoders to get the Euro sounds.)
I recently purchased an LGB 20212 with chugging sound and smoke. It ran well for a few days and it stopped all of the sudden, the front light still turns on, but the engine does not move forward. It still runs in reverse. Could this be a motor issue?
Really interesting. I am trying to work out how to remove the body of the current LGB 0-4-0 (99 5016). Cheers Peter.
The Spare Parts document for 'LGB 20753' has some exploded diagrams which might help. Good luck!
My videos 'Opening 2071D' and 'LGB Stainz' include opening but are not same as yours.
Where did you get the light assemblies for the Stainz upgrades you did here. I have one and would like to do similar. Thanks. Good series there. Mike
Hi Mike, On the Stainz I added a new smaller central lamp on the lower front and rear of the loco. For the lamp fittings I bought two of "LGB 20710-204 Engine Lantern" from Trainli.com in US, at US$4.50 each. These are smaller than the big headlamps, at about 8mm in diameter. See www.trainli.com/LGB-20700-20710-20720-20730-U-engine-parts-268/lgb-20710-204-engine-lantern-p-5296 You will see these have a square plate with two lugs pins on the back to go into a vertical place, but I cut that part off and just used the cylindrical lamp and the vertical tube underneath it, and glued them on. Initially I painted the interior white, but later curled up some white plastic into a tube and glued that in. Drilled holes into back to insert red LEDs. I didn't use lenses or trims. If you type lamp and/or lantern into Trainli Search field you will see more options, although dimensions and detailed photos are not shown! Old-style and modern lamps there. Alternatively, look at specific LGB models for lamps that you like, then look for that. Hope that helps! Email again if I can assist further. Glad you enjoyed the videos. Richard.
