This is a short clip of the White Pines campground. It has six sites, a pit toilet and a couple of bear boxes. There are also only two fire pits that are more communal. It is only a short walk to Lake Michigan and you are allowed to have fires on the beach. We were there in the middle of August and no one was there. It was incredibly relaxing.

Kevin and I headed out on the trail. If you would like to do this hike, we started at trail marker 8 off of Peterson road. From there, it is only about a mile and half to the camp ground and the trail is rated easy. The trail was nicely groomed for about a half mile but than got pretty sandy. A few small up hill climbs but other than that, pretty easy.

Kevin and I had a rough start for the day. There were many different complications that arose, scheduling issues, equipment problems, communication issues. Basically almost everything that could go wrong, did. But we finally got to SBD and got settled into our camp site. The rest of the night went relatively well.

Kevin pulled up to my house on the lake only to discover a rather large wasp nest on the shed.

I set off 1,000 fire crackers in my driveway.

This is what it looks like on the lake before the fireworks show starts. It gets pretty crazy on my lake for the fourth and is something that I have come to simply tolerate. The rest of the year, it’s pretty relaxed, but for one day it’s just out of control.

This was a pretty cool experience and just goes to show how stilled the captain of our boat was. I’m not sure how you would practice this but I’m glad they did. I only took this rather short video and this is on their “Spray Falls Tour” which was about two hours. They do have longer tours and sunset ones as well. This is one of the water falls we saw on our boat tour of Picture Rock National Lake Shore and for the life of me, I can not remember the name of it. The boat tour we took however was through, “Picture Rocks Cruise LLC” in the charming town of Munising, Michigan.

The sunrise over the bay on our last day in the UP. It is bitter sweet that we have to leave this wonderful place and head back to reality. Now that Claudia and I are married, we are going to look for property and move here prematurely. We made that decision over a year ago and this trip has just reinforced our desire to live here. Claudia and I ran to Whitefish point after having dinner at the upper falls so we could catch the sunset and a beautiful rainbow. Whitefish point located on Lake Superior is a place where a great deal of ships have gone down. There is a ship wreck museum which is well worth the visit especially if your into history of the area.

Kitch-iti-kipi is the largest natural in the state of Michigan. It is definitely something to see. The water is super clear and watching the water bubble up from the ground is nothing short of amazing.

I decided to film the entire walk back to the trail head from the viewing platform at the bottom of the falls, back to the top. And yes, there are 181 stairs to climb. Not that we counted and I think we are going to trust the park rangers on this one.

This is the viewing platform of the upper falls from the river side, below the falls. There are 181 steps and a quarter mile board walk to reach this point. Most of the stairs are at the beginning of journey then it’s pretty easy from there.
