Tsunami March 11, 2011 at Bowling Ball Beach, Mendocino County
มุมมอง 129K13 ปีที่แล้ว
footage of a tsunami hitting Bowling Ball Beach in Mendocino County. Basically, in 10 minutes time, the tide rushes out to the lowest of lows and then back in the cover the bowling balls and reach the cliff. Amazing to watch and I'm sure the video doesn't do it justice. This is just one such tidal change. I witnessed four in a little over a half hour this morning.

Love this, ty
Next time, make sure you don't forget to post the 2 preceding hours.
Nothing like what hit Japan.
Incredible
After traveling over 8,000 miles, the energy is just gone and no big inland damage.
WOW! I mean Wow such power
God's power is amazing!
no such thing its a mythical entity
We can see the superposition of the normal waves (from the wind) and the long wave of the tsunami (kilometers long). Very good footage.
Thanks for posting
The fact that it was so noticeable on the other side of the Pacific is amazing.
The last time Cascadia ripped was January 26, 1700. We know the exact date because the Japanese kept very good records of all tsunamis and the earthquake that caused them. Especially ones that did a lot of damage - that one wiped out their rice crop. That tsunami was listed as an "orphan" - they didn't know where the earthquake was that caused it. Looking at the records from Japan, and the geological records from Washington, and places in between - that earthquake is estimated to have been a 9.0.
I don't know that California was really aware of just how much displacement they were going to get.
Is this an example of why they used to be called tidal waves? Certainly much more like a typical tidal generated change.
thanks. used to live close to there, fond memories of that beach and the one immediately south. wish someone had done tsunami vids at pt arena pier, too....
Thank you for posting this! 💞💫
Is this what u call a tsunami you fucking idiots!???
Was there just yesterday. So beautiful!
if that is all that surge.. it doesn't look to strong. i could still surf fish down there.
then you really don't understand the power of water and how much it weighs....and that was a small wave action tsunami......1 cubic meter of water =1 ton or 2 thousand lbs......you just witnessed several million tons of water get pushed ashore that normally takes 5 to 6 hours under normal tide change...never ever underestimate the power of the ocean...when you do is when you die-US Navy Veteran.
Love seeing my GloGlovs in use with Sonoma Co. Rescue, thank you!!
WTF?! looks like just the regular tide out and in.
@ZionHillCalling Guess Japan didn't get hit hard enough for that person
a normal tide change takes 5 to 6 hours.....the tsunami did this in 9 minutes......think of how much force and energy it takes to cross the Pacific ocean and do that.
my sister has a house right next to ocean. I am afraid of a tsunami hitting them.
One the most beautiful parks in the world. Don't tell anybody.
Wow
haha funny
poor baby
poor baby
Thanks for uploading this. Is a fantatastic footage!!!
Apparently people just arent' interested in nature anymore. This was video-documented footage of the effects of a tsunami; yet apparently it means nothing to some posting here unless it's ravaging a coast line, and killing thousands of people. Must be bored gamers with softening gray matter.
Why bring gamers into this? I am a gamer and easily recognize that this is connected to one of the most catastrophic natural events of our lifetimes. This is far from meaningless.
the difference between this and a normal tidal action, is that it went out extremely fast and remained out for several minutes, before gaining momentum and washing ashore pretty fast towards the end. Normal tidal action like this, from low to high, takes about five to six *hours* rather than a few *minutes*. Rogue waves are similar, but not as drastic a noticeable difference as in a tsunami. I've been on Pacific coast beaches for the better part of 43 years (and counting) :)
@vidguy007 The actual amount of change was 3.7 feet. that's + 2 feet, and - 2 feet from nominal. I was watching a depth sounder (from 13.0 to 16.7, that's 3.7 feet) and noted the changes. Those who say 7 foot waves might know something I don't, but I tend to not see how that could be. 4 isn't 7, no matter how you figure it.
Basically, nothing happened out of the ordinary. The water came up and then went down, within normal tidal ranges, just faster than usual. Someday there might be extreme tides, or a storm surge, but, basically, panic is not warranted. It was terrible in Japan, and we had problems in certain areas that seem prone to that sort of thing. But for most of us, nothing happened that was noticeable unless your went out of your way to notice.
I so wish I had gone to watch. This is fantastic.
so the tide went out and came back inside of 9 minutes, BFD
This Was A Weaker Version Of The Same Tsunami That Hit Japan On March 11 2011
NICE TOM brotha PAT :)
i love it!
please post more ...thanks...
no shorepick in the water! will get beat up by the wave and knock some rock.
