After all these years, I wanted to post an update. I think in this video I gave a little too much credit to Clomipramine in ridding myself of DP/DR. I’ve contemplated deleting this video because of how cringey some of the stuff I said was lol. But I think my experience remains relevant and helpful for people who are terrified and trying to figure out what is happening to them. Around the time of this video, I did experience a major breakthrough with overcoming my symptoms. Whether or not that was due to the drug I’m not sure, there really is no evidence. A lot of it I think was simply changing my interpretation and attitude toward what the Depersonalization was forcing me to constantly feel and think about. The drug may have helped give me the leverage I needed. I was also undergoing weekly sessions with my therapist and I owe a lot to him. I’m not sure if this is something you can ever “cure” yourself of because once the veil has been lifted, you can’t really unsee what you have already witnessed. But it is very possible to reintegrate back into everyday life and society. I still experience (thankfully mostly fleeting) feelings of Depersonalization and Derealization to this day but it doesn’t really scare me anymore. When those feelings and thoughts creep up on me, I just sit back and observe, and try not to give it the time of day. P.S. I apologize for not responding to a bunch of these comments. Distancing myself from all things related to DP/DR was an important step for me. I was stuck in a constant obsessive loop of thinking about it and that only would exacerbate my symptoms.

I've Had DP/DR for 20+ years! I got it from smoking very high grade weed and a few major concussions and overdosing on Antidepressants at 16 years old. Benzodiazepines were the only thing that has helped was clanazapam and Celexa and CBT/ Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. Thanks for the book recommendations bro. There's a movie about DP, called starring Matt Damon called (Numb) this is a must watch.
