Great list. I agree this combo could beat the OP’s five. This is all hypothetical conjecture but often times in these debates we pick starting fives in a vacuum versus how well would they compliment each others play style. We saw that with the Olympics this year. If I were to pick a team different than the OPs then it would be Magic, Kobe, Durant, Bird, Wilt. On another note, Curry is definitely the best shooter of all time given how good his 3p% is with the volume and defensive attention he gets. And even though he’s not great defensively, when he’s got it going in the 3rd quarter his spacing turns a 10 pt lead into 20-30 pts in a flash. The guy has some kind of aura effect that is hard to quantify. Same with Magic.

@@TheDarkEnders True, but I'd still put Durant over him. Curry is a better 3pt shooter than KD, but Durant is better in the long 2, midrange, post, and at the rim. He's also only a little below Curry from 3 (about 4%) and was better than Steph this year. Curry does affect the defense with how they are afraid of him getting on a roll, but I'd still take Durant on my team or just as a shooter due to a significantly higher career scoring average, better FG%, and better everywhere except the 3. Yeah, your team is pretty much the best alternate to his with Magic/Kobe. I would want Durant, but thought that Pippen gives you more passing and better defense (since we know Olajuwon can score against Shaq). I think there are lineups where Steph would be a brilliant addition (with a better defensive PG), but I just can't see him playing on a team of monsters like that and having to play defense on an all-time great SG.

@@AdrianBurke-g2u Giannis and Dirk would be an insane combo. I like Kobe for the defense (Dirk and Giannis are more efficient scorers). With that lineup I'd use Jokic. You can use his passing in the post to get REALLY easy buckets for Dirk and Giannis. Or you could go Barkley. In his prime he's one of the 3 or 4 best power forwards in history. He could put up 40 points or 20 rebounds on any given night. Never got to play with a good center after Moses retired.

⁠​⁠@@SDesWriterJordan and Wilt are arguably top 5 defenders all time already with Jordan guarding the best wing player and wilt providing rim protection. Durant and Magic are medium defensive players and also really big. Between those 4 there’s a lot of size and versatility to switch everything. And then offensively going fast pace with balanced elite scoring is going to get them 2 buckets for every 1 bucket any opposing team does.

@@TheDarkEnders Jordan is your small forward. He can't guard a PG or SG because it would leave Curry (a bad defender) trying to cover a SF. Magic isn't actually a medium defender.....his height is very useful (and he did put out effort) but despite the running and gunning, he wasn't very quick laterally so he's going to get burned quite a bit by quick guards. Curry is your biggest problem because you can't put him on anyone. On my team, Kobe is the SG (because the OP already took Jordan). Can you imagine Curry trying to defend Kobe??? 🤣🤣🤣 Wilt is a great choice (as would Kareem be) because he's strong enough to go one on one with Shaq. I don't know about his offense vs O'neal, but I would love to see it. I took Magic too, so no argument there. You just can't pair him with Curry because they'll get eaten alive by great offensive guards.

@@SDesWriterthat’s a fair point about the potential defensive liabilities with both Curry and Magic. You could potentially swap out Magic with Lebron and then defensively problem solved but I feel like the offensive synergy of Magic and Curry both playing unselfish fast pace motion offense is a super charged offense that is just too good. Also in our position less modern game your offensive positions can be different than defensive. Curry guards smallest guard. Keep Jordan on whoever is the best wing player (let’s say it’s a SG). Have Magic guard PF since he’s strong. Durant guard SF or whichever wing Jordan doesn’t want to guard. Durant is fairly versatile so that helps. And then of course wilt guards center but arguably he’s athletic/fast enough to hold his own switching onto a guard compared to Shaq.

Wow....Giannis and Kareem playing together? That would be incredible. I'd say Thomas is a great pick because of his great passing and the fact that he can play defense. Facing Curry means he'd probably average 15-20 if he wanted and the rest of the team? Kareem would destroy Shaq offensively (and be a solid deterrent on defense and the boards). That's a beast of a team.
