    How's you replacement motor doing? I'm looking at one of these...

    • @3in1machining1
      @3in1machining1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My replacement motor is still running OK. A really good improvement. Regarding the pulse wave modulator. I have around 10 to 12 spare ones. The problem with a variable speed drive VSD controlled by a PWM is that the torque is limiting at low speed. You can mechanically check this with the calculation Power = 2 x Pi x RPM x Torque. Then use substitution for Power = Volts × Amps. Hope this Theoretically answers why I do not use a VSD driven by a PVM. The torque is just two low at low speed.

    I enjoyed this, what steel did you use to make the tap, its not HSS , not mild steel but some form of high carbon steel?

    • @3in1machining1
      @3in1machining1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I recall correctly it was bright bar EN3, the tap was a little rough. However it only needed to work once. The brass collar was for my cross slide repair. There is a video of that also. Regards Graham

      @@3in1machining1 thanks for the quick reply. So low carbon mild steel, quench hardened and tempered. I should have looked at the sparks coming off your cut saw they shoot like its mild steel. Looks like a fun project to try, great video none the less. Keep it up

    Can the mill operate without the chuck rotating? Nicely done.

    • @3in1machining1
      @3in1machining1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its magic! Not everybody wants to look at the chuck rotating, & rotating. Whereas others want instant gratification and see the end result. What are your thoughts and preferences?. Graham

      @@3in1machining1 I meant lathe chuck ie could you hold something still in the lathe church and then do milling operations on it. Sorry I should have explained better. Thanks

    • @3in1machining1
      @3in1machining1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Arrr, understand... the reason the chuck is started is that it drives the auto feed on the cross slide and saddle. Alternatively you can mill manually. I prefer to use the auto feed as it gives a better finish. But the lathe / mill is an hobby unit. So the finish is mediocre anyway.

    How would you rate the 3 in 1? I am looking at it for myself but worry on the quality after you replaced the motor so many times.

    • @3in1machining1
      @3in1machining1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I genuinely believe that the original lathe motor is underpowered. I bought the machine due to its milling ability. You need to look a the 3 in 1 general description. Type 3 in 1 Machining General Description in You tube for a better understanding. Note there are better lathes available. Its all about cost. The good thing is that this lathe can cut metric and imperial threads.

    • @3in1machining1
      @3in1machining1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Amir you are mixing metric and imperial measurements together. Do you mean a 1" 1/8 BSW ? An 1"1/8 British standard with worth BSW has a thread pitch of 7 threads per inch 7 TPI. A 7/16 BSW has 14 TPI ? Also Metric threads are measured in pitch (pitch it the tip of one thread to the adjacent thread) Example a 24mm bolt has a pitch of 3mm
