Welcome to “MyASLTeacherROCKS” my name is Somer pronounced like the season “Summer”. If you’re here that means you’re ready to learn! Before we start this adventure, here’s a little background about me and what you can expect from my channel.
I have over 10 years of experience working in the deaf community and using American Sign Language (ASL). I hold an A.A in Interpreter Education and a B.A. in Interpreter Training and Education. Throughout my career I’ve worked as an interpreter in a variety of settings, but my passion for ASL lead me to teaching.
The videos will include ASL lessons, deaf culture facts, as well as highlights of achievements made by persons who are deaf in today’s world and so much more.
This is more than a place to learn sign language but a place to educate hearing parents of deaf children, empower children , and provide an additional resource for new ASL users.
If you’re ready, click the subscribe button and watch the welcome video!

This helped me so much! ❤
Thank you so much! My daughter is deaf & I’m hearing so these videos are helping me connect with my baby! ❤
You a wonderful teacher❤
We just found your channel, and really enjoyed the lesson. Will be watching the rest, and perhaps doing up for a class, too. Thanks so much!
Would love to have you in a class. Thanks for watching :)
Greetings, I'm not sure if you're sill monitoring this site or not. The last comment was 6 months ago and It appears that there was not answer to the private tutoring question. I am also interested in receiving private tutoring. How do I contact you?
Yes we do :) you can visit www. MyASLTeacherROCKs.com or email Jennpayne@myaslteacherrocks.com
I Lovveee You... 💕🥰💕🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
Yes and just to add I feel like if the person has a hearing family member or friend that can accompany them on a practice interview to know that The interpreter is verbalizing the interview correctly that would be great because it's not about the interpretation as much as it is about the tone that the hearing interpreter brings to the table whenever the interview is being done so they're looking at The interpreter and the answers The interpreter is giving but that interpreter has to verbalize it the way that the deaf person is meaning it does that make sense???🤷🏽♀️
I Have ALWAYS Been Told Don't Learn ASL from Hearing People... I Diagree... You are Great‼️💕🥰💕🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
You are amazing! I like how you teach ASL!
Thank you be sure to check out our website www.MyASLTeacherROCKs.com
Just started ASL love it
Check out our website www.MyASLTeacherROCKs.com
Thank youuuuu!!!
Hi 👋🏾!! Fellow ASL Interpreter here just wanted to say I loving your energy you have in your videos ❤!
Do you teach online?
Hi Somer. Would you consider online private tutoring/teaching?
Yes we still offer tutoring www.MyASLTeacherROCKs.com
This was nice, I understood better with the volume turned down. The sign you were doing for "right" (in Civil rights) I first took as the sign for "alright". I normally sign "right" as two d handshapes, one above the other and the dominant hand comes down and contacts with the other. But I looked on signing savvy and that one I use means correct.
Hello, I have also seen several signs for the word prejudice. Do you have one you prefer?
what about continuous past actions? Example I have been working. It is something I did but am still doing.
I’ll create a video this weekend and upload :)
Wow! This is so helpful. Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching :)
Glad I found you on tube
Thanks, quick and easy, thanks!
THIS IS THE BEST CHANNEL FOR LEARNING ASL!!!!!!
Great video!I have a 3 year old who is delayed in speech. She is say very little for her age at the moment. She starts school in a month .I will like her to be able to communicate if someone scares her or bothers her in any form. Any advice?
Really thankful I found your channel you’re a good teacher you move slow and breakdown the reasons why signs are the way they r ♥️
Is history and hard of hearing the same sign?
Thank you for this. I started a job as a groomer and for some reason a large minority of our owners are deaf. Scheduling appointments specifically is challenging even if they read lips. Sometimes we don't have a pen and paper at hand.
I hope you are still learning :) check out our website for immersion classes. Www.MyASLTeacherROCKs.com
Fantastic instructions
Appreciate it
This is so useful thanks!
Hi, you do great job and good luck with your channel and family. Concerns: Why use the racist "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, catch a N*** by the toe" when you're a black person that doesn't seem to hate yourself? You otherwise have the best ASL channel and I'm surprised that more people aren't sharing your content. Continue to produce and be woke.
Soooo helpful
Why mis summer
This video filled in a lot of gaps for me. Thank you.
I’m glad it helped!
My daughter is taking elementary level ASL in cyber school. I'm using TH-cam videos to help her understand finger positions and palm orientation for signing. Some videos show signs in different positions depending on who's videos we watch. Someone's video said that for the letter Y, your palm needs to face down so your fingers face away from you instead of up. But most people I see keep their palm up and facing away from them, not down. Does that matter?
I LOVE THIS!!! Thank you so much for this video! Fall is my favorite time of the year!!
Hi Mrs somer it's me hayam! Hw are you?
Hello beautiful! I miss you in class, I hope your school year is off to an amazing start. Glad you are still watching the videos. 😊🤟🏾
I love that you sign and talk to us about what you are doing
Thank you so much for watching. Check your email. Let me know if you have any request.😉
Thanks a lot!!! :))
You did a great job. I have one question for you. I wonder if you can teach deaf people in English?
You mean teach a deaf person English ??? Unfortunately I can’t but I know some people who do.
@@somerstanley3082 Mind I ask who?
I love your channel!! You really appreciate how you give detailed information on how signs should be made. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for the positive feedback and thank you for watching! New content coming soon :)
My fiancé learned took an ASL class her sophomore year of college. We are picking it up again because I love learning language and culture. I take a linguistic approach and so this is my second day practicing ASL while our daughter sleeps ! Thank you for providing this awesome lesson !
Great job! We offer immersion classes if you guys are interested. They are taught by heating and deaf so you get the culture as well. Visit www.MyASLTeacherROCKs.com
Your vids are so great. I am learning a lot.
Thank you! Send us an email and we can get you in one of our trial classes. MyASLTeacherROCKs20@gmail.com Until then keep watching, liking, and sharing! New content coming soon
This was great. Thank you.
Amazing lesson. I love that you sign while you speak. I was watching your signs mostly because I want to understand receptive but this was great.
Thank you so much!
Wonderful job Somer! 💜
love you!
Fantastic! Thank you a lot! I'm a teacher, and I was looking for an asl lesson for Brazilian students that are deaf. With your lesson, I think that they would learn to communicate in asl English. Because we have to adapt the lesson with the interpreters. I think if I use these asl lessons my deaf students would be happy, instead of bored. Thank you a lot!
That’s awesome! What’s the name of your school I’ll be sure to shout your students out in my next video. Also if you have any particular topics you would like for your student let me know!
Wow! That's so awesome thank you! I've been googling all the signs I don't yet know so I can sign the song "History" by Anthony Brown. Several to go but at least I can do the title now!
If I can be of any help please don’t hesitate to contact me. We offer tutoring classes and we get a lot of students who want to learn specific songs for various reasons. MyASLTeacherROCKs20@gmail.com Take care :)
How do you sign the word history?
Hey Donna I’ll upload a video for you now. Using your dominant hand, hold the letter H palm facing your non dominant side. And move it in an up and down motion twice.
@@somerstanley3082 Thanks so much! I think I get it but looking forward to the video. So nice of you to do!
Video uploaded!
