CMYK Screenprinting with Pin Registration
Printing a full-color photographic image using process colors (CMYK) and pin registration. See other videos for how I prepared this image ("Making Images for Screenprint Films") and separated the colors in Photoshop ("Working with Digital Images for Screenprint").
Deletion Techniques for Lithography
This tutorial demonstrates deletion techniques (scraping, sanding, snakeslip, and acid deletions) for lithography. I'm working on a stone whose image has already been printed as a first layer, and using a reduction approach to selectively delete areas that will allow the first printed layer to show through.
CMYK Subtractive Monotype Printmaking
Using cyan, magenta, yellow, and black (CMYK) to create a four-color monotype print.
Reduction Screenprint: Colors 1 and 2
Using screen filler to paint a stencil on a screen, using the reduction method. This is a great way to make screenprints without an exposure unit, and work with multiple layers of color.
Lithography: Preparing and Printing a Stone
This video covers the entire process after a drawing on a lithographic stone is complete: first etch, wash-out and roll-up, second etch, and printing. The process is the same for plate lithography, but one would use a different etching solution for plate litho. Any other differences are noted in the video. Fall in love with lithography!
Cyanotype with Silkscreen: Preparing Films, Planning a Print
Using Photoshop to create a photographic negative for making cyanotype, and planning a hand-drawn positive for screenprinting on top.
Print From Anywhere: Monotype Stencils in Intaglio Printmaking
This video covers the difference between a monotype and monoprint, using a stencil to make a color surface (relief) roll onto an inked intaglio plate. The monotype stencil addition, along with the intaglio ink, creates a monoprint.
Screenprint: Reclaiming a Screen
You should be able to use one screen for many, many images. Some artists use the same screen for years! To do so, you must reclaim a screen properly. This video covers how to reclaim screens that have stencils made of screen filler or photo emulsion. I'm using a garden hose sprayer, a pressure washer, a backlit washout booth, Ryonet reclaimer, Greased Lightning, Speedball Screen Filler, and Ula...
Screenprint: Working with Photo Emulsion
This video covers how to coat a screen with photo emulsion, prepare paper for pin (punch) registration when printing, and arrange films onto a screen for exposure. This is within a studio art context, where students create original screenprints for art and design projects. Emulsion is Ulano LX660 and I use a single-point exposure unit.
Toner Transfers for Stone or Plate Lithography
This video covers how to use acetone and Laserjet toner prints to incorporate photographic imagery in a stone or plate lithograph.
Making Images for Screenprint Films
When you're using photoemulsion for screenprint stencils, you can prepare a digital image for the black-and-white (binary) printed language of screenprinting. This video covers TWO methods of translating the image to a photomechanical format via Photoshop: using Bitmap to create a single color image with line, dot, or duotone screens, and splitting channels for a CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, an...
Working with Digital Images for Screenprint
This video introduces basic Photoshop tools to make an image with multiple layers. Includes Paintbrush, Clone Stamp, Quick Selection and Lasso selection tools, detailed removal of backgrounds with Select and Mask, and an introduction to how Photoshop layers function. The end product is an 8" x 10" image suitable for preparing films for screenprint.
Relief Printmaking: Mixing Ink and Printing the First and Second Colors in a Reduction Print
In this video, I demonstrate how to plan and mix colors for a three-color reduction relief print. In reduction, all printed layers emerge from the same printing block. You change the block for each color, often working from light to dark color values. See other videos for color planning by hand and with Photoshop.
Intro to Book Arts: Preparing a Coptic Stitch Sketchbook

I afraid that mask would not protect her from breathing the acetate. A respirator with cartridges for those fumes would be needed

will this work with a regular etching press?

    • @susannacrum3717

For plate litho, you could use an etching press but you’d of course need a litho press to print it later on.

@@susannacrum3717 thank you for the quick reply, I really appreciate it. I have another question though if you don't mind. You flash a book in the video called Litho Guidebook. I tried to search for it but couldn't find the right one. Can you please tell me who the author is?

Do you fix with heat after doing the toner transfer? Or as it is dissolved with acetone it is not necessary? Thanks in advance!👍🏻

    • @susannacrum3717

The acetone fuses the toner to the plate.

Thanks for the great video. Super thorough! I have a question about your gum etches... they are pre-mixed and kept in squirt bottles. You or your tech must do this in advance and keep them on hand for printers. This is mind-blowing to me! The scariest thing any of my students do in any of the media I teach is mix gum and nitric. Is there any issue doing it your way? The etches stay "fresh" and consistent?
