The music is so bad it is giving me a headache cant watch ...
This is the year when the keep em back theory goes away. Opponent at baseline you dink it to the kitchen. Those who watch this video are not fast enough to get in and cover it. Also when pushed back behind the baseline you cannot get your weight forward to drive, defensive high lob, the ligher the better.
Yeah, the drop shot after the lob can be effective
@@congarnett your not getting it, you got the wrong combo. You beat em back anyway, Waters does it all the time.
I haven’t found that as successful with the speed of certain players but hear what you are saying. In a few matches I have done that to no avail and have to be tactical about it as if they get it it is a free pass up to the kitchen
Yes the next time I play a pro, I'll just keep em back!
Yeah, def see your point up to certain levels can be very effective
and great video, BTW! Thanks for creating it and posting it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
assuming your opponents are both right handed, are there more opportunities to lob from the even court? It seems to me it would be an easier lob to execute from the even court, over the other even court player's backhand to the far the corner.
Yeah, that is correct. Usually on the right side of the court if you are facing the net you can lob right handers easier because down the line is to their backhand side and middle is at an angle where the cross court person has a backhand too
Also a pretty darn good video on how to DEFEND the lob.
Great video! Love the pauses and circling little things to notice (that I definitely would not have noticed)
Sweet. Glad you liked it!
I guess there’s also the desperation lob that allows you time to regroup. Hard to place it well but a bit deeper and with lots of height.
True, but that one I wouldn’t necessarily recommend haha
year of the twoey lob? everyone is happy
Love it!! There we go haha
2 handed backhand seems like it would hurt your range of motion. Extended reach is more effective.
I could see an argument if you have a split second on a volley and you are stretching with one hand or blocking directly in front of you. Everything else the range of motion doesn’t affect me and the benefits outweigh it. That being said everything is a personal preference
Thanks Connor, really good tips. ❤
Awesome to hear. Any time!
Awesome video bro great stuff. Also I order the Twoey hat just waiting until it says shipped 😂 I cant wait to rock the hat when it arrives it’s look so cool
Awesome thank you! Appreciate the support
Connor & Alex - this is probably one of the most useful and well-explained instructional videos I've seen in awhile. Definitely up there with some of Zane's videos in terms of clarity and usefulness. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Great to hear
This video worths to watch many times. Thank you, Connor. Master piece of advanced pickleball technique teaching.
Glad you enjoyed it!
My thoughts, exactly. Courts (at the Y) are closed for the weekend, but can't wait to get out Monday to try this. Until then, a lot of dry runs in the living room.
Heck ya! Get after it
Previous I was told about the "triangle effect" (like if I speed up straight it will come back at an angle or vice versa) which seems the opposite of follow the ball. Am I misunderstanding?
The triangle effect is similar to this but the essence of both is the ball is coming back in the direction you hit it probably at some form of angle
Where should you place your pointer finger on the grip? I struggle with wanting to cheat to a backhand grip at net as I feel I can recover on balls to my forehand easier, but I don’t think that is sound & I probably won’t get better that way
Your left pointer finger (assuming your right handed) I put it on the back of the paddle face and then my right hand is just wrapped around the paddle normally like a tennis forehand
At 1:44 you say if you're on the run you can take a step forward with your right foot. Does this mean if you're not on the run you shouldn't take that step? Do you always have your right foot in front when you hit this 2HBH or do you sometimes have your left foot forward?
I try and take a step forward any time I can it naturally allows me to get my kinetic chain involved but if I am on the dead sprint I will sometimes hit open stance where my left foot is in front of
THANK YOU! 🤩
I watched your game a while ago and what struck me was your sporting spirit and smiling through that game been a big fan since. thank you for being an inspiration sir
Thank you! Appreciate it
Chris Olsen from Pickleball Studio I’m sure would be willing to give you ideas on how to improve your videos. You have great content and advice but as mentioned in some of the other comments it would be awesome to have more camera angles for many reasons. I’m a fan and just wanting to see you succeed in all that you do.
Thanks
Great video in addition to your 2 hand bh video. I'm subscribed now.
Thanks for the sub!
if your opponent hits a topspin drive to your backhand, are you going to try to put topspin on it with your twoey or just kind of smack it? ive noticed when i try to reverse topspin i get less rpms probably just a skill issue lol
When someone hits topspin you get less rpms when you hit a topspin shot back but I don’t let their shot dictate if I’m hitting topspin back but it is something to be aware of for sure
Great explanation, Connor. It's easy to follow and I feel I can implement this into my game right away. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! Let’s go💪
Majority of the videos about the drive shot (including pros) say you should hit it at 70% power but would you agree that there are times where pros like you just whack the ball super hard? Do you use eastern for FH drives at the baseline and switch to continental at the NVZ? What about your grip for drops? Not everyone has spacious courts, I wonder how do you pros return and deal with perfectly deep serves when you're playing on courts that's like separated by tennis nets our fence and you only have like at most 6ft of room form the baseline.
70% is great unless it’s a super high sitter you can’t miss. I use a little bit to the right of a continental on fh for right hand and conti for bh and same at NVZ. Deep serves it’s all about shortening the swing and overdoing the legs. Hope that helps
Thank you for this, the two-backhand is ridiculous. Two-Hand Poach Tips would be a nice video to see if you haven't done it already.
Great suggestion!
@@congarnett if you can or have the free time. Got any advice on my two-hand backhand or any obvious things you would change. I notice a large pull back with yours which is something I want to play around more with.
Great video Connor! Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Will do!
5:05 love the “heel toe” tip. Haven’t heard that from anyone else and that thought helps me remember to keep my weight going forward, especially on backhand.
Awesome, glad it’s helpful
Great stuff
Thanks!
Thank you Connor. Great video. Very helpful. I wonder if you can have video on return of serve. Thanks in advance. Your videos deserves repeat watch. Thanks a lot Connor.
Thank you! Great suggestion definitely will aim to have some videos covering that as well
Yes! Would love a return of serve video as well
Connor, out of all the pros you seem to have one of the best attitudes on court. I rarely see you frustrated or demoralized. As a viewer, I would love to know more about your perspective on competition, and what allows you to stay positive and present while you play.
Thank you and yeah will work to have something like that too
What shoes are those
KSwiss there. Still bouncing around though finding the shoes that last and work with my movement
@@congarnett well you make em look great. Love watching you play
@@congarnett I just picked up the Asics solution speed ff2s after bouncing around a while myself. It was hard to find a pair of lightweight shoes that were comfortable as well as durable as well. You should definitely give them a try.
Thanks!
YOU ARE NOT HITTING WITH YOUR LEGS!!!!! Other pros and instructors have said to stay low in the follow-through, to not use legs, which is what you actually do in the video. I slowed your video down and can easily see that you are stable when you hit and follow through the ball. Yet you are telling us to use our legs, use them to drive into and through the ball. Actually, some of the backhands you hit are while jumping up and jumping back. This video is confusing. Down thumb.
Using the legs means moving through the shot. The weight transfer through with the legs along with the hips and core is where the power comes from so yes to your point I am stable through the ball and I am not lifting which is what you are referring to
@@congarnett Just wanted to say you're really kind for responding gracefully to these crazy comments. Watching you play PPA at the Red Rock Open was one of the highlights of the event for me. Love your channel and great video as always. The swing path of 2 points of contact for aiming down the line is extremely helpful. Can't wait to watch your next pro event.
Thank you, I appreciate it. Yeah red rock was a fun tournament. See you at the next one
Nice but how big is the top spin. The paddle is rated to more than 2000 RPM, why can’t it be realized in the drive shot?
The drive shot if I am hitting through the court because it is a faster shot will naturally have a little less spin because the ball doesn’t stay on the paddle as long. It will still have spin though for sure and that is coming from the brush at the end (I.e. turning the wrist over right after content / brushing up the back of the ball) but some of the passing shots or slower drives you will see even more spin because you are going up the back of the ball even more. Hope that clarifies things
No disrespect but you need a better videographer and probably one or two more camera angles. It would be nice to see where the ball is going. At least cut to a wide angle. Great content, otherwise.
Thanks and yeah, completely makes sense and with each vid working on improving things like that. Always welcome the feedback
What the heck is the other person hitting with? Sounds like an aluminum baseball bat
I guess they might need to get a ProXR paddle
@@congarnett 🤣Valid
Right?!! I couldn’t help but envision Ben Johns using a frying pan on the other side much like a vid I saw awhile back.😂
That is a nice house! how much are they paying you on the PPA tour?!?
Thanks, yeah a friend’s spot. Super cool set up for sure
@@congarnett lol on another note - ever since I saw you a year ago with the 2 handed backhand, i’ve been developing mine. i now have the most versatile 2 handed backhand of anyone I’ve seen in this area 😊 . thank you for the inspiration!
@@khgriffi heck ya!
this is super helpful! thanks for all the quick concise tip videos :)
Of course. Glad it was helpful
Great stuff. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
cute ass twoey having mf. also first lol
Absolutely awesome video and explanation, Connor. I really liked the focus on exposing gaps. 😎
Thank you, appreciate the note
Great vid as usual. Appreciate your clear and concise style!
Thank you, appreciate the support
Hey Connor - are you saying that when you speed up a ball straight ahead it will come back straight ahead and when you speed up a ball to the opposite hip of opponent, it will come back at your opposite hip?
Hey - yes, thanks for the question. I am saying if you hit a good speed up they wont have time to hit it back cross court so it will go back in a similar direction to where you sped up so yes if you go cross body on someone it will likely comeback to the other side of you.
@@congarnett Thanks Connor!
This is something I want to get better at. Attacking rather than being on defence most of the time. Okay red, yellow, green.....I think I got it. Just have to practice it now
Heck ya! Good luck with the practice
Thumbs up on this video, two 👍👍 on your recent medals especially the gold over Staksrud!!
Awesome thank you! Much appreciated
Hey Connor - I think a good video is to show your process on how to pull yourself out of negative head space after a string of errors. Thanks!
Great suggestion! Will look to incorporate that. Thanks
Great job, Connor!
Thank you!
I have a weird question but I’ve been looking for those exact socks and I was wondering what they were called lol
They are called thorlo socks!
I have an odd situation where I am sometimes feeling more effective rolling the ball in the yellow zone but having a harder time with the ball in the green zone (low like maybe sternum level). if I try to roll the ball (forehand) at that height, it feels kind of awkward and maybe a little slow (maybe where I have time to think too much). is it better to forget rolling the ball in the green zone and just hit down (either at a cross court angle or just straight across)? also I think the issue might be spacing between the paddle and my body and I need to move my feet more (Bright is always moving her feet when she volleys)
Definitely when you can hit down on the ball, rolling it isn’t as important especially if your opponents are at the kitchen
What brand of shorts are you wearing? Thanks!
Florence Marine! And my favorite are their airtex shorts. Link to their stuff and my discount code is in my bio
How bout a video on when to use a 2 handed backhand vs 1 handed at the kitchen. Also, why you have only 1 hand on the paddle in your ready position.
Sounds good! The gist is when its a counter that I have limited time and its right in front of me its one hand and out to the side when I can get the second hand on it is two. I will make a video on it though
Great stuff Connor! I'd love to see you do a video on in game strategy adjustments at the pro level. For example, maybe one of your doubles matches where your team had to pivot from your original plan based on some patterns that kept coming up during the match.
Great suggestion! Will work on getting this incorporated
So helpful. I really like your channel above others. But I think yours and Katharine, you guys provide the most useful tips instead of the generic stuff that a lot of people do.
Thank you, glad you like it and always happy to provide helpful tips. Let me know if you have anything else you'd like me to cover
@@congarnett I actually do, thanks for asking Connor. How do you deal with balls coming at your head from the kitchen to kitchen, some are so fast that you can't comprehend whether it's in or out so you just protect your face but when your paddle covers your face it also blocks your vision. I noticed some people are hitting hard at your face and you don't have time to think about ducking because the ball is coming so hot you have literally no time to get out of the way when it's in the kitchen so you end up just trying to hit it. Other times if you do move out of the way, they change it up with a medium ball that lands in but it also high to your face. Also as a pro how do you guys combat against getting chicken wing'd. I wanna hear from a pro what the pros do for this. For reference, I play with 4.5-5.0 in southern california and there's pros that drop by my facility often.
@@congarnett Also how do you handle dippers from drive/drops that are coming hot at your feet and there's pressure from a crasher who's trying to shake n' bake you? I feel like if you drop it in the kitchen, you're conceding the point too easily, but if you hit up on it, to get it over the net, you're gonna get punished if you pop it up. There's so many more aggressive players who are just aggressively shake n baking their way to easy points.
@@shipwreck8847 thanks, will work on some of these in the next round of filming!
