Awesome as a bi woman it's warming my heart to find a video in response to this, cus I do to agree that a discussion is what both lesbians and bisexuals need to have, and it is a missed opportunity and perpetuating said issues when we don't
Just to let you know I stopped by to watch this video. Hope your cold continues to improve and that 2014 is wonderful for you.
Good points. Thanks for responding!
What I am stating in my video is that a discussion needs to happen. I do not agree with the judgement that the women in Arielle's video made, so I am with you there. What I am stating is that instead of getting mad/upset/angry, a discussion needs to be had amongst the LGBT community so that we can understand the bisexual community/each other better. Taking Arielle's video down won't allow that discussion to happen. Taking it down will pretend that there is no problem, when clearly there is.
Great video. Thank you for posting, I had missed the original video but have caught up on it and Mainely Butches video now. I think this path we are on is already hard enough without such judgement from within our own community.
This is brilliant, thanks for making it! I did an interview for the June 13 a sex issue DIVA in the UK where I looked at some of the issues about body beautiful agenda in the Lesbian world. I know you made this a while .ago but I am really interested in how we as disabled LGBT people move it forward. I made a film called 'Butch Losses' it's on TH-cam if you fancy a look at it! JJ
Yes - I am entitled to my opinions. I'm glad we're finally able to agree on something. The fact that my understanding of your motives and/or the difference you hope to make in this world is hinged on this book gives me further pause. But as has been established, we're both entitled to our opinions, as you've made it your point to share yours on my video. I hope someone gets something out of this dialogue.
It's easy to dispute something you hear about second hand. And you don't have to read the book. I'm merely saying that your critique is typical in it's ignorance of me or my motives. And while I won't speculate on anything my book may ever do, I will say Black Like Me made a huge difference in the civil rights movement. Hopefully mine will as well. Either way you are obviously entitled to your opinion. Grace and peace.
Let's be clear - I am judging the idea/actions behind the book. I haven't read the book to judge it and frankly, this dialogue doesn't make me want to read your book. I live what it is to be lesbian, I don't need your book to shed light on how empathetic you became once you realized that lgbt people are not the heathen monsters some Christians make us out to be. I am disputing your ethics in gathering your research during this experiment to write your book. That is where my contention lies.
I think it's pretty unfair to judge something you haven't read. I hope you read it. It's free at the library if buying it is an issue. I just would respect this video more if it was founded in knowledge of the book and not a single article you read.
I am still wondering about reading your book to 'find my answers' because I am torn between it making me more upset about this and really not answering my questions. But I will let you know what I decide either way. Thank you for responding.
Actually, Yes, I have heard of and read Black Like Me and it too left me feeling a lot like the idea of your year long experiment - wrong on some level. Maybe I am grappling with the notion that as people we cannot have empathy for those that are NOT like us simply because we are ALL human. I still stand by my premise that you as a straight, white, male cannot ever truly know what it is to be a minority and to have your right to be as you are negated by the larger society. -continued-
Ever heard of the book Black Like Me by John Howard Griffin, which was instrumental in helping create a positive change in the civil rights movement in the 60's? Also, I highly recommend you to read the book for yourself so you actually understand where I am coming from. I address most of your concerns in the authors note. Blessings.
This. Why didn't he befriend a gay person and talk to them about their experience? Why didn't he participate in LGBT activism? Why did he have to LIE? What he did feels wrong on a level I've not been able to identify fully.
But there are certain things inherently that he won't be able to fully experience, such as the struggle to be authentically yourself as an LGBT person within a heteronormative society, where most places you turn to shun who you are. He didn't have to experience that because he knew in a year that he would go back to his 'normal' life. He had an experience unlike that of most LGBT people. I'm not sure what he thought he got out of it honestly.
Rest. LOL! A year ago I would have said, what is that? But I am resting. and releasing the guilt feelings i used to have a laying down and the house is a mess.
Thank you for all the support. oh my god. so much love. Bless you. I listened and will take heed to all your pointers. Yes, I am having to let go of my standards of clean, lol. They help though and it is awesome.
Thanks Jackie :)
Thank You Kelli :)
As a published writer myself, I enjoyed that very much :)
You are very welcome friend :) -S
Thank you for making my words come ALIVE!
You've grown graciously Sandra. <--- And thank you for that Jackie! I was like 'I'm sure I should be more pissed than I am but, eh... She and her issues are not my problem. I am moved on to better things!" -S
Girl! I guess she didn't ever really "want" me. She wanted what I could afford her at the time: vacations, traveling, etc.. Which is sobering. I shared those things with her b/c I loved doing them/wanted the companionship. I am glad I am in a better space now to deal with what she said but her callousness knows no limits. She was the best thing I never ended up with! lol Cause Karma is currently wearing spiked stiletto heels and she is on a mission, ya heard?
Thanks Jackie :)
Ola! In my excitement I totally didn't go into my rant about Huck!!! We're gonna have to share Us some Huck! lol I'm glad I didn't end up like her either :) It will be a happy New Year, I receive it and bless you with the same!
Thank You Daniel :)
No doubt. Glad I was able to say it so well? I know many are afraid to but I think this will help a lot of other folks - disabled and able-bodied alike.
Not since May :|
Thank you for so eloquently saying what I've been thinking for years. You're right - I don't think about my disability until I interact with an abled bodied person. Thank you again for sharing this. I have shared it with others in hopes of opening some eyes.
Thank You :)
:) Sometimes that all it takes - sharing your story. Thank you for watching!
Hey Zedie! Welcome :) I hope you enjoy the channel and thank you for subbing :D
I have baby fine white hair and you're so right, you can't do a thing with it!! I'm 35 and still want haircuts I shouldn't have, at least I've stopped actually get them especially since I hate using product! I've watched a few of your vids this evening and am subbing.
Pretty interesting dialogue going on here and on the FB page. I think there may be a part 2 coming out of what I have been hearing thus far. We'll see. But I am glad people are aware and thinking about this at least.
lol
Well I am glad that you're better and let's not call on the worst part :)
Lots to think about for sure. Very insightful
Owlthena, thank you so much for sharing this with me. I understand about being in pain and not wanting to be intimate. Sometimes that happens with me but thankfully not very often. I am getting out there more and making friends but for me there comes a point where having friends is not enough you know? I am still a complete person. This is what I struggle with. Like you mentioned, she would have to be a very understanding and giving person. I dunno...
Will try! I've noticed that most of them are pretty sexy O.o lol But I will look for some PG ones :) Thanks for watching :)
more Poetry!!!!!
sandra hope it gets better and so glad to see you and hope everything is good in S. Florida it's OK here in Tampa St. Pete area!

Thanks for watching Jackie :) For me to stay on this side of better, I have to call it out for what it is, ya know? I think food addiction is the most difficult to deal with because food is everywhere and so readily available - besides that, we need it to live. But just like anything else, it can become a problem for some. Hope this shed light for you and others.
Hey NIP! Thanks for stopping by and thanks for your compliment :)
