Strengthening Community Resilience in Kariba and Gokwe North amid EI-Nino drought
2024 has been a difficult year due to devastating effects of the El-Nino drought. Despite the El-Nino setback, the goal to increase resilience of vulnerable households was a priority.

Happiness overload in Mberengwa! More than 30 000 people are currently receiving their food vouchers comprising of cooking oil, beans and mealie meal under the Start Network funded project. Responding to EI-Nino drought, the project is covering nine wards, implemented by Nutrition Action Zimbabwe in partnership with Action Contre LaFaim Zimbabwe.

Under the EU funded ERVHIZ project, Nutrition Action Zimbabwe is using the care group model to educate mothers about nutrition and breastfeeding. The lead mother who is also a VHW is re-emphasizing the importance of exclusive breastfeeding as they celebrate World Breastfeeding Week. Breast milk is always the safest source of nutrition for babies.

230 mothers with children under the age of 2years received cash to cater for their children’s food and nutritional needs under the French Embassy funded project whose goal is to fight child malnutrition in Mwenezi District. 350 households in Chiredzi received income for their cash for work activities under the BHA funded #IntegratedLivelihoodsproject. Activities included rehabilitation of Chitambai community diptank and construction of Vinga weir dam, with youths highly involved in these community developments. #BuildingResilience through #CashforWork.

Nutrition Action Zimbabwe with support from the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development stakeholders conducted a field day to promote peer education among farmers in Mwenezi district under the USAID BHA funded Integrated Livelihoods project where farmers showcased small grain crops.

It is encouraging to see how youths are actively participating in this BHA funded #IntegratedLivelihoodsproject where dip tanks are rehabilitated and weir dams constructed. They have become more meaningfully engaged in developing their communities and earning cash to start income-generating activities aimed at strengthening their livelihoods. Hopefully, this will go a long way in keeping them off other negative coping mechanisms as they create employment for themselves. Well done Team.
