Surfers of the North Sea
United Kingdom
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 5 ธ.ค. 2023
For anyone new, I am a videographer, not a surfer. This is my new channel highlighting surfers in the North East, with periodic visits to the South West - new locations will follow as I get my bearings. If you are looking for real people in real surf conditions in the UK, this is the channel for you. It isn't always pretty, but it's my hobby and I love every minute of it. Even when its cold, rain, fog, wind, snow and ice out there - the sun too at times... (All comments are held for review: any attempts to guess/name locations or anything I deem to be offensive or rude will be immediately deleted and will not be published.)
09 08 23 N E (South of South B) - Archives Preview
Hoping for the best this weekend, but just in case it doesn't go to plan, I've been working on another archive re-edit (to follow) - this was a heavy and wild looking day for both 'South' and 'South of South A' on this day in Summer 2023 but very happy I continued on the journey and checked out 'South of South B' - natural sounds, high tide.

Originally in 7 parts now re-edited and merged into 2 parts. This was at a time when my original camera was started to struggle a bit with its distance focussing hence I have salvaged what I could. Had my work cut out as more and more surfers arrived, but happy days doing what I love - this part was filmed during late morning with an incoming tide. Natural sounds for this one.

A day in the North East when everyone needed to run to their favourite spots. I had a hard time choosing the location for me to visit today, could only really choose one at this time of the year while we chase the daylight - any choice would be cold, naturally haha. Lots more to follow - this segment was mid to late morning with an incoming tide. Music: Moons by Patrick Patrikios (youtube audio...

มุมมอง 172หลายเดือนก่อน
Well, it looked better than it did first thing in the morning, this is the return and it is now mid afternoon. However, it was less than ideal so this upload is more about highlighting the conditions on the ground, rather than waves caught. Towards the end, you may notice that two of you were being shadowed by a seal (or may be it was different seals) as he/she gives us their 2 cameos. Music: R...

Incoming tide, not quite how the forecasters had led us all to believe for the North East region on this day (appears that we got mostly super massive close-outs/shore dumps instead in most places). However, for here at least the occasional rideable waves were produced. Music: Plain Truth by Gunnar Olsen (youtube audio library)

do you have deep water? this wave doesn't break I think😢.. good 2:11
Don't think its too deep Emi, but I can see what you mean. It does have better days (but for our coastline this isn't bad), hopefully more waves are on the way back!
Cannot help but notice the distinct and pleasant lack of poseur's out there in the lineup with you. I'm guessing that the frigid water temps has something to do with it, most likely.
Haha you could be right, the cold is not for the faint-hearted (you'll find me filming these guys, you won't ever see me in the sea, anywhere in the world, bbrrrr :)
@SurfersoftheNorthSea Well, thank you for sharing your videos with us. Just regular folks out in the lineup and riding the waves with their mates, best of times!
thank you, I enjoy the whole process from being there on the day and then trying to knit the best of what I captured together to share with the surfing community.
Looks like so much fun
Good to be getting out there, despite the cold!
What "secret" spot is this? I only have 4.3mm suit. I don't know if I can hang if the water dips below 55F. 😢
Ah well, every spot is a secret spot!! hehe. Yes, it was bitterly cold but I noticed a hardcore element with their hoods down at times. I would say the water temp dipped below the 55F - tricky getting that perfect time of year between winter and spring but we're getting closer to that now!
@@SurfersoftheNorthSea 👍
Beautiful lines. Looked like a great day
not sure where my reply disappeared to so we will try again, haha. Yes, lovely day and hope we all get some more of the same again soon!
Looks like the waves were getting better throughout the day. Some good rides
Indeed, nice little extra push as the tide came in too.
Welcome all new subscribers and followers: just a timely reminder that I don't name or allow the guessing or naming of locations and I use codes to identify where I've been - if you were there on the day then you know where you were! All comments are held for review by me to ensure this. See you soon on the waves !🤙🤙🤙💥💥💥
an artificial reef is needed 😮
ah may be, when the wind settles, its really good here usually!
@SurfersoftheNorthSea even here on the beach the wave is almost always different
some heavy looking dumping closeouts there.. :O
brutal
looked like tough going out there
Defo, felt a lot of joy when I saw anyone catch a wave this day.
Heavy..was that a propeller foil?
Not sure what those things are, but looked scary to me at least from my angle! Glad everyone seemed to be ok though.
Waw big big swell
Hi Emi, it sure was and the winds from the right direction at last, been quite a wait!
@SurfersoftheNorthSea yes 🙂
Big dog in the background..)..looks like some decent swell for a few days
Hello there Middleagedshred and Happy New Year! It sure does, freezing but also exciting! The big dogs were a plenty today!
saturday shaping up nicely 😁😁
Yes indeed😁 and quite a dilemma in which spot/s to visit haha, will do what I can!
Cooking . Happy New Year to you and all your viewers
thank you - and to you too!
may i ask what break is this filmed?
Thank you for following. I don't name any specific locations on my channel but I can tell you that this is one of the better known ones on the North East coast (England)
thanks for the reply i surf more southeast myself this does give a good example of what can be expected along the UKs east coast
thank you, as you will discover through the playlists I do travel out of area at times and try to introduce new locations as I continue the journey along.
You guys are hard core surfers, aloha from hawaii...
They sure are , thank you for following our surfers from your beautiful part of the world!
Been a lot of swell around up and down the coast. Well done, nice video
thank you! Looks like a pretty nice couple of days down with you guys coming up, I look forward to seeing your next uploads! I hope to get down there myself but looks like it might be March now (but if the opportunity arises beforehand, I'll take it).
Ah man, looks good. Tried the wave pool at Edinburgh today and got humbled would have much preferred to be out there in the sea today in these conditions at least you can see the wave coming.
it was wild, you could certainly hear the waves approaching too, good on you for giving The Lost Shore a go in these conditions right now!
@@SurfersoftheNorthSea Will definitely go back but will try a lower level. Plus The Scotland Youth Surf team had also booked the same session so was embarassing myself even futher. TBH Much prefer being out in the sea. The sea is way more calming on the soul, to be in it or to be just observing it. Love your videos mate. Keep it up
aww man that was bad timing, glad you'll give it another go. With regard to the sea, couldn't have put that better myself, it gives so much peace to so many of us.
Hi Garry, I've had to hold your latest comment as you named a spot - but thank you for your kind words - I am dedicated to my craft! I look forward to returning to that location you mentioned again in the not too distant future.
@@SurfersoftheNorthSea D'oh! sorry bout that, totally understandable.
may the steady footage roll and you know what they say..you are not a true content creator until you have made a cup of coffee left handed while holding the camera..XD
: ) haha, thank you - got to say the conditions at the moment are a proper try out!
Some very hardcore surfers. Kudos.
Thank you and thank you for following, they are addictive to watch!
always wortth a paddle out
Taking all the chances our coastline will offer up, turning cold beachside for filming you all now though : 0
dude done well to get going on a shortboard..)
Agreed, there was just a small window of opportunity with the incoming tide, but worth the effort!
A good day to own a longboard..)
definitely!
Some good peaks!! ❤
Hi Emi! Yeah, it came good for a while when the tide came in, hope you are getting some decent conditions ?
@SurfersoftheNorthSea just got back dry from the west coast. wave a little ruined by the wind and above all too cold 🥶 😅
Totally agree - it really has been cold hasn't it, even in your lovely waters too!
@@SurfersoftheNorthSea we are not used to the cold here😆
hahaha : )
Hey, I'm on the first wave, thanks for getting this! Do you do private footage at all? Happy to pay ofc :)
Hello there! This is what I love about the hobby, glad you appreciate the efforts! Haha, I have been known to be whisked away for filming now and again for another youtuber! To be fair, I like to try to get as many folks in one shoot as I can - I was over at 'N E South' today so there will be more uploads to follow .....no need to pay me!
Love these clips, may i please ask where this is?
thanks for the support! Ah sorry, I code all locations for the benefit of the locals but trying to get to new locations and expand my patch a bit.
Beautiful lines
it was a lovely surprise today for sure!
Is that over 9sec/period ? Looks really great to surf !
It was quite a search this day, conditions varied across the region. Going to get a bit rough in the next few days!
@@SurfersoftheNorthSea Right on !! I gotta come visit Holland to surf.. looks great.. maybe for the spring swells.
Good to plan ahead and try new locations!
Some nice sized waves, solid
heading into the wild season now!
@@SurfersoftheNorthSea Yep swell starting to move in nicely
What’s up with the horror movie music?
Yeah, running out of options in the music library! Sometimes I pick something just based on how I felt on the day, which was with a little concern seeing some of the impacts of those waves and feeling really shaky and generally cold.
Two words: Tri pod. That looks like a killer spot though
Appreciated! Yeah the cold really got to me that afternoon and I was a fair distance away due to the really high tides, I am looking at buying a monopod as it happens as they will be easier for me to carry while moving around locations.
You should check into the drones, they're under $500 and they're easy to fly. Keep up the good work
We had practically the same waves today..; short intervals was heavy to get outback. And cold af... i got a little scared being on my own as a beginning surfer since last year>. Some of that icy water got into my suit and i started gasping for air in between pounding waves. You guys are committed for sure !!
to be honest ya doin great if you only started last year and are getting out back in conditions like this. people struggle in the whitewater for years. yea its nasty when the wetsuit flushes icey water..is it hooded?..if its a front zip pull that shoulder chord tight to help against it flushing so much..
@@middleagedshred Yeah it's hooded and indeed i forgot to pull the cord lol... Thanks for the kind words.. I went into 10ft waves in France last year and took one of those... but then i got scared. I couldn't yet make a bottom turn so i surfed straight to the beach. lol. I used to skate for years when younger and that helps a lot... like balance is totally no issue.
@@alainvosselman9960 yea man..if ya have a good popup thats the hardest part of the start of your surfing career..just angle the takeoff and fly down the line
@@middleagedshred Pop up was indeed very hard... after a 100 nose dives i got it ! lol. About a week or two i managed to get the board to turn and popped my first bottom turn after 1 attempt... which felt gooooooooooooood ! It was a bit weird to experience the difference of turning a skateboard or a surfboard.. so next step is making speed i guess.. like weaving.. and trying out a right hand (got a goofy stance).
Hope you are making some good progress Alain and hope we get some decent waves again soon.
Thats a looong wave for round these parts..)
We do get blessed with some good days sometimes don't we, an honour to film moments like these!
What are they wearing dive suits? I wonder how cold that water is
hahaha, those will be pretty heavy suits I would imagine as we head into wintertime now, along with boots, gloves and hoods. A balance between keeping warm and still having enough strength left to pop up for the waves.
@ yes sir I was being a little sarcastic, but isn’t the north sea of the coldest water on the planet? I was just curious.
Yeah sorry, that went straight over my head! - I'm a woman, I don't surf but I do enjoy filming it all, this is a hobby and try to respond to comments as best I can. I'll leave it to my regular followers to reply regarding water temps.
Lool dive suits..XD They wear 5mm or 6mm hooded wetsuits boots and gloves. Surfline said the water is 11 degrees celsius but I would say its colder
@@medievalknievel It's cold but if you can manage to grab a few waves you get warm.. also getting outback is hard some days so it gets your heart pumping.
Hard to watch.....but huge blue balls for dipping into a freezer.
and getting colder by the day!
Some hustling going on there
got to be some adrenaline rush looking down the face of those walls!
Hi, I have your latest comment on hold, if you could edit the location name out I'll post it for you, I call this area you mentioned 'north of north' if it helps as a substitute.
The camera man needs a whiskey
: ) this camerawoman needed something to steady her haha! Baltic out there but it was an epic view!
Heavy going out there..I took 1 look at the surf cam and all my old surf injuries started to play up..)
Indeed the waves were massive and shut down really heavily to be sure
heavy
sure was!
Looked great..I distinctly remember not being able to get there and missing that session ..XD
Indeed it was and I recall the same - will catch you out and about again soon, hopefully at this spot too! 😄
looks fun
Poor souls looked exhausted on occasion (got to make the most of it when waves arrive on this coast) but a quick rest and they got straight back out there!
Poor bastards. I can't understand why they're out there. Then again I probably couldn't understand anything they said.
hahaha! Different breed in these parts! Enjoying the challenges!
What was the water temps? Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching. Yeah, I stay well away from the water myself. I can confirm the air temperature was surprisingly mild for the time of year, but I can be spotted wearing gloves in summer! Hopefully someone will comment on what the water temps were. My guess would be Baltic most of the time haha!

Terrible waves 😂
Here in the UK and for the North Sea - I don't think these were too bad to be honest!

Wawww very ggood point breack
Thanks Emi, some lucky timing at this spot, I enjoyed the filming session!
Nice one. Dont worry I have had to ditch plenty footage because its too shaky, I got to get a proper tripod
Yeah, not sure what happened to me this day, I often lean into fences and walls and that normally helps steady things, not used a tripod (except on one outing with Middleagedshred) but I am considering a monopod at some point soon ! Your material is great quality - windy days are troublesome!
Cuao Helen!! Good glassy day.. swell from?
wasn't bad at all Emi - now you're asking a good question! I can't remember exactly but a few spots were looking good when I was trying to choose one, so in general, straight from the east seems right this day.
@@SurfersoftheNorthSea ok thanks Helen the question is very interesting.. what is the prevailing swell on the east coast
it varies, but the best swells would come from a north easterly direction I believe and in winter months but I am no expert on the topic, I just watch it all as it arrives !
Many a session rescued by long white water rides! :)
Yes indeed! Loved the control on these!
