It would make sense that behind the scenes the animators would get access to the magazine artwork before it was released publicly, using that artwork as a reference to what Vegeta's color scheme was supposed to look like. What I'm wondering is why didn't they ask Toriyama himself what Vegeta's colors were supposed to exactly be, but I'm guessing the answer to that would be since Akira has much of a tight schedule as the animators as a mangaka, he would have no time to even answer such questions....

I miss the old days when Vegeta had Super Saiyan God.

Saiyan armor was replaced by this which is Frieza armor. This video being completely wrong aside, I always just thought they could have small deviations in their armor and some saiyans, or their armor smiths, were usually just not very creative, and lower ranks would get the most copy/paste styles. I mean look at DBS Broly. Broly also does not wear saiyan armor, or Frieza armor by your logic. I like it, but it looks completely different from anyone else's and now Frieza Force armor has square shoulders, it's like a retcon. It's not supposed to make sense. It just is this way now. The new square pauldron armor is way more numerous and a way crazier retcon to me than Vegeta's old DBZ armor lol. This is some weak sauce.

Another thing to put into account is Toriyama didn’t think very far ahead in his story telling. Frieza was probably the strongest until he decided he had a father and wrote that in. Dbz has to be the most retconned media ever made.

In universe, it was probably just Bulma coming up with a similar design by coincidence. Out of universe, I'd imagine Toriyama decided to have a bunch of alternate armors and ended up drawing the extra lines on back to differentiate it.

Nah is not correct the colors are picked way before the character is even drawn on a manga page, Toriyama had to design the character first and get approved, he probably changed his mind or was advised to change the color, listen ... Probably Akira wanted to color code the ranking of vegita to show he was above Raditz and Napa, what would be the color of royalty in a planet named after vegetables? .... Green... So probably early in its design stage Vegeta did have green armor. They anime and magazines went along with it because that was the original intension then either Akira changed his mind or was requested to change the color by the Editor or publisher.
