Maria Newman OFFICIAL is a platform for music, art, and communication through which you can explore the works of American composer/violinist Maria Newman. Emerging from the hugely musical Newman family, Maria has always viewed music as a manifestation of the most important and integral aspects of existence and experience, and has spent her career focussing dedicatedly on this notion of musical language and connection. Newman's music is extremely personal, thematic, and evocative, combining a deep understanding of music theory, form, and technique with wild, unrelenting sentiment and eccentricity, to create works which analyze the depths of experience as much as they invoke them. The mission statement of Maria Newman OFFICIAL is to carry over this unique and affecting aesthetic, featuring content ranging from music (such as original compositions and performances), to commentary, to cinema, establishing a complementary visual aesthetic that is equal parts art-film and home movie.

In Remembrance... This somber Monday night, we extend a musical offering in brief, as together our world grieves the untenable tragedy of September 11, 2001, and the whole of inhumane events that permeate our society with such prevalence. The short art song presented this evening, (text by Louise Moss Montgomery), describes the terrible anguish and indefatigable line between the living and the dead. Through this moment in time of music and poetry, we pay heartfelt tribute to those lost, and those left behind. We recognize the scars of pain and sorrow for all affected and who are forever changed. It is the time of year when we send our loved ones off to college, out into the world to fly solo. Often bittersweet for those of us who remain at home, we are nonetheless filled with excitement and anticipation, yet...still reeling with nostalgia for the years gone by... Hope you enjoy this end-of-summer piece, dedicated to new life chapters, while toasting and celebrating the past with a warm smile. It is a great joy to perform with Scott Hosfeld, and to have this opportunity to play a string trio with the wonderful Isabella Thatcher!
