Outdoor Electrical Feeder Pipe Slipped Down
🚨 Outdoor Electrical Safety Alert! 🚨
While inspecting a 25-year-old home, Steve checked an outdoor electrical socket and found the OPPD safety key present-great news! However, the feeder pipe was open, which can allow rain and snow to enter and potentially reach the circuit breaker box, causing significant damage. This is a serious safety issue and an expensive repair but critically important.
Ensure your outdoor electrical components are properly sealed to protect your home.

    They set the expansion fitting wrong if it was set right you wouldn't have to worry about settling pulling it out. Normally you're supposed to set them in the middle of the travel, not near either end.

  • @petebusch9069
    @petebusch9069 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That feeder pipe does not go to the panel below, its the underground power coming into the house. The ground settled pulling the pipe down with it. That conduit to the left is what goes to the main panel.

    • @ianbelletti6241
      @ianbelletti6241 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Your right. It is the service feeders from the power company. The reason settling was enough to pull the conduit apart is because whoever installed it set it at the end of travel instead of in the middle. Normally you're supposed to install them with the end of the conduit at the halfway point of the travel zone which should give you room for settling on top of thermal expansion.

    That looks like a real PAIN to service! I normally ignore my sump pump, as I also have a battery backup pump installed, but just recently the float switch on the primary pump failed, and the reason I noticed it was the sulfur smell from my backup pump's battery that had failed too! Had to pull both out to service the lower-level primary pump. I see in your video, there are rubber coupler sleeves which seem simple enough to undo, but trying to lift the whole assembly at once, it sure seems like the seals around the pipes will be compromised, and how does the plexiglass even seal against the floor? Is that just plumber's putty or clay?

  • @vicpinto1970

    How does this work if your pit is filled with water to a point that it hasn't kicked on the sump pump yet. How does the radon fan suck radon gas out from beneath your slab with water in the pit?

    • @homestandardsinspectionser3704
      @homestandardsinspectionser3704 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as the water is below the level of the black corregated pipe that drain water into the pit it's ok. The pump should kick on before water gets to that level. Great question!

    • @vicpinto1970
      @vicpinto1970 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@homestandardsinspectionser3704 I don't have a corrugate pipe as I don't have a french drain. What I have is what looks like a square concrete sleeve that extends about 18 inches below the slab and about 9 inches above it. The slab was then poured around it. House was built in 1966. The bottom of the sleeve is well below the level of the bottom of the slab but, because this is always filled with some water, a radon fan will not be sucking any air through the water. It can't suck any air from the sides due to the concrete sleeve. I think I may have to drill a bunch of holes through this sleeve at a level below the slab but above the water for a radon fan to work in my case.

    • @homestandardsinspectionser3704
      @homestandardsinspectionser3704 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vicpinto1970 I shouldn't assume all pits are created equal :) I think you are right about drilling holes. Often we see the radon pipe hole drilled in a location close to plumbing drain lines because earth is typically more back filled in those locations and has settled creating that air gap between the slab amd the earth.

    Spot on! Great advice for sellers to get a pre-listing inspection. The buyer is confident making a more aggressive offer, it reduces liability on ALL agents involved, and the deal is more likely to stay together and helps decrease buyer's remorse.

  • @DavidMatney
    @DavidMatney 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    A pre-inspection is a great tool and tactic for sellers to get top dollar! Most deals fall apart for 2 reasons, the home inspection and financing. It eliminates headache for the agent and reduces liability for all. The other aspect of the inspection is the knowledge and education the inspector gives to new homeowners on maintenance and the operation of the home.

    This is awesome. The first smoke detector is a Sears Early One model 350.57045, second one is a First Alert model SA76RS. I have an example of one of each in my collection, albiet different variants (my Sears model has an added heat sensor feature, and both my current SA76RS units have slightly different cover designs). Both are highly sought after vintage units to a lot of people, including myself. The horns in these are electromechanical "squealer" type as opposed to the piezo electronic horn modern alarms contain. I for one prefer the squealer sound, definitely more effective than the piezos. If you have any of these old units, throw em up on ebay someone will buy them.

  • @jdlproductions2746
    @jdlproductions2746 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually collect older smoke and fire alarm devices such as these as a hobby. The one on the wall is a Sears branded unit, and the one on the ceiling is an old First Alert model, both made around circa 1975. The old horns they use are called squealers (which in these particular units are Kobishi model CLB-27 squealers) which they pretty much stopped using in smoke alarms in around 1980. So yes those would definitely need to be replaced.

    • @janeaton3417

      Definitely needing to replaced. I collect these older units as well I still think these horns were much more serious sounding than piezos. Both of those units are cool. I have the Sears in my collection. These are definitely great for collecting!!!!

Both of them are from 1977. The squealer horn has a much more effective sound than the piezo and smoke detector manufacturers should never have done away with them but if you were to throw these older units on ebay you would likely get some buyers. I would be one of them. I used to be afraid of these as a kid but I absolutely love how they sound today!
