We'll be picking up the story in 2023 as we move our cats on aboard and become full-time cruisers. We'll spend the summer in the Great Lakes...
moyles is a hurricane hole very safe spot even compared to john harbour and beardrop. also you guys missed NCYC in Spragge stop in next time :)
Why is everyone so afraid of the sun?….
Assuming you had to check-in upon arriving in Canada. How was that process? When island hiking in Canada were you required to carry your passports?
Yeah! We had to call a number to cross in. You are supposed to be at a designated telephone reporting center when you call in case they want to board you (we went to the one in Sault Ste. Marie). We didn't carry our passports when hiking... we also didn't see many people in general 🙂
Great video. Just subscribed and can't wait to see the rest. I have a Catalina 27 on a trailer in southern Indiana, and I've been thinking about trying to get it up to Lake Michigan for some sailing. I can't decide if I just want to take a few weeks off and take it up for a trip, or try to get a slip for the Summer and try to sneak up there for as many long weekends as I can pull off with my vacation days. Do you have a town you'd recommend to start from for either of these ideas? Michigan City is closest to me but I've been wondering if it would be best to get further up the coast some. Thanks
Cool video…..thanks for
Beautiful scenery, thanks for sharing!
thank you for sharing
Cool video of the area. Our small sailboat sailing group anchored to hide out from a nasty storm in what is called the eye of the fox.its the area north of where you anchored on fox island but accessible on the north side by a narrow entrance. One of our guys got dragged and came to rest in that small channel just visible in video..luckily only pride got damaged. Winds topped at 56 knots. Its a great area but care must be taken as anchoragea get really full
Great video guys! Beautiful area of the country ....
We've really enjoyed your videos. Thank you for sharing!
I just discovered your channel yesterday, and I am thoroughly enjoying your content! Unlike many channels, it is not over-produced or over-loaded with unnecessary skin shots. You guys have great content. I hope you keep the content coming and the channel grows!
Looking forward to more great anchorages
The most chill drone recovery on TH-cam I have seen yet. Also, thanks for the mention of your grippy shoes by Astral. I misplaced an awesome pair of Sperry water shoes last year, and they discontinued making them. I'm going with your recommendation.
😂 I got a handle that sticks down so you don’t need to risk your fingers with the props. The astral shoes are great!
Great episode would like to know more information about your Ericson yacht. Also nice real experiences and filming. 👍
That is certainly a beautiful part of the country. I could imagine spending a very pleasant and leisurely summer, exploring all of the tucked away anchorages there.
The North Channel definitely lived up to the hype. So many great anchorages
I’m planning on doing this same trip this coming summer, from Muskegon to South Manitou. I’d love to hear what you learned.
It's an awesome trip! Great hiking on the island and some of the clearest water on Lake Michigan
As a great lakes sailing couple we love your videos!
Thanks so much!
nice .not too many tubers get up that far into the north shore . well done
You young people looked like pros on your first locking experience. Well done.
Hi. Cool video.
Good On Ya! Nice cat scratching post idea.
Thanks! Our cats seem to prefer to scratch our seadek to the scratching post though...
Nice video. I'm curious as to why you sailed without headsails.
The wind had died down in the afternoon when we were going under the bridge
Love seeing these videos cannot wait to return to the North Channel on the boat I just purchased. When I was about 14 years old (1984) I spent the night on that flat cliff top with my cousin shown right at the end of this video in Bear Drop Harbor. Will never forget how scary it seemed being alone on the ground up there
Yes! The North Channel is a truly incredible cruising area and we can't wait to go back.
Nice video.. the turnbulls are one of my favorites in the NC. Usually less busy. Hope you had a good run thrugh that area. Lots to see and small distancea between great anchorages. Quick question regarding your starlink.. how is it working out and di they give you grief that you are moving around..i heard other peoples services cut as they dont want you to travel with it or change areas.
You're right - the Turnbulls are great and much less busy. It seems like you could cruise the NC for decades and never hit all the spots you can anchor! As for Starlink, we've got the Starlink Roam which is $150/month and is not geo-restricted. We have even used it under way without any issues (I've heard they will catch you if you're moving at over 10 knots). The service itself actually seems to be getting better every month and we can regularly get 100-200 MBPS download speeds.
That's a good set up for sure. Hope to see further NC videos. Just waiting the winter out
We just binge watched all your videos. Heard you are now in the Bahamas. Hoping that you are not done making videos. We are on E dock and would see you two often when we were going to or coming back from a sail. Hope we get to meet you some day.
Oh awesome! What's your boat name? We've been a bit slow on getting videos out since crossing to the Bahamas, but we're not done. We've got a ton of North Channel Footage we need to get organized around, then our journey out the Erie Canal.
We are on impulse, the islander 40...
WOW! I have never seen flies like that!
It was partially our fault... we left a light on in the cockpit because our anchor light wasn't working... it attracted every mayfly in the bay!
Going under the Mac Bridge is defiantly and achievement. I love the Drone footage. I am still afraid to fly my drone when my boat is moving...
We got a handle that wraps around the body and sticks straight down so it's much easier to catch. It's way less sketchy now!
Just caught up on the last three videos and loved them all! Looking forward to seeing the North Channel, I've heard a lot of good things about it. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thanks and Happy New Year! The North Channel lived up to it's reputation - it was awesome!
Love the recap with the map! (Sailors of a certain age love paper nautical maps.) Your boat is shipshape, and your filming is outstanding! Please keep us abord.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Merry Christmas & a happy new year to you both. Keep up the good work & ill look forward to seeing you in the new year. SV Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand 👍🏿
Waooww amazing.
😂 I’ve been watching Tula’s endless summer, TH-cam channel for about nine years now. 😂Your channel was suggested to me by TH-cam. 😂 I said, I got to subscribe we have the same name. You have a new subscriber😂 heck I’m even called (Gerbs)
Oh wow that's hilarious. I had to double take the name when you commented :)
Cool video!. I'd imagine it gets pretty rough when you get they typical summer south west winds...
We got pretty lucky while we were up there, but when it does blow the waves can really pick up
@@gerbersunderway3614 I am looking forward to watching your videos!.
Love the cat crew. :)
They're sooo curious!
Great video and nice boat! My finance and I also sailed to Beaver and Garden islands last summer. We also has a tuxedo cat on board... You are absolutely right about that the wind and waves wrap around the islands and create some really "interesting" wind and waves. I am not sure where you anchored, but the bay north of the marina is not great holding, there is a lot of saw dust in the bottom. You really need to set your anchor! I love the commercial fishing museum! I worked on a commercial fishing boat on Lake Michigan for 4 years, so seeing a commercial fishing museum is very emotional for me. Their is a lot more on Beaver and Garden islands to see, but I understand you can't see everything if a few days. Thanks for the video I love seeing TH-camrs making videos about The Great Lakes...
Yeah!! We wanted to stay longer - there are a ton of islands to explore there. We only stayed a few days because we wanted to get up to Lake Superior by mid-July
Very nice video! Love that area.
Beautiful scenery! I especially enjoyed the drone footage! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
I'm happy that I found your channel! My wife and I had the pleasure of meeting you guys when we were sailing in the North Channel. We were anchored near you in Mary-Ann Cove, then we had the slip next to you at the Killarney Mountain Lodge Marina. I'm glad we can follow your adventure.
Yes - we remember talking to you at the Killarney Mountain Lodge! We're working our way down the East Coast (just made it to Florida!)
Wait, wait, wait. I didn't see any footage of your friend Chad stopping by for a visit on South Manitou. If you could see my face right now you would see the look of disappointment.
Can't believe you got in that water, I think my limit is 70F! Can't wait to see under water footage from the Bahamas.
There were some crazy Canadians that swam out to it from shore without wetsuits… we’re ready for warm water though!
Lol! Clicked on the thumbnail b/c it's Monday and I thought this was a Sailing Millennial Falcon episode. Was pleasantly surprised.
Ha we love Millenial Falcon! Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
Moose tracks , female ( cow ) that you found and please dont get close to them they will kill you mainly the Bulls but cows with calves will also !
Thanks!!! That’s what we were guessing since moose are supposed to live on the island.
Thanks for sharing another great video!
Thanks for watching!
All my landings on the dock are "Captain Ron" level, unless someone is looking.... Good thing you had the Vac for the mayflies... 😅
Ha! Yeah perfect docking here unless there's an audience :) We were told once, that at a marina you're either the show, or watching the show. We were definitely the show that day
I have noticed that you don't like sailing, you seem to motor everywhere ?
Thats sailing in the Great Lakes. There’s not always enough wind that goes in the right direction… especially if you’re headed up a river.
As Dave mentioned, the wind in the Great Lakes is quite fickle. We were able to sail the whole way from St. Ignace to Drummond Island, but once we started North up the St. Mary's River we had to motor the whole way. Generally, we will sail if we can make 3 knots in the right direction, but that's not always the case.
I found your channel after searching for videos on the Ericson 39B. There is a 39B on the hard in Algoma, WI (where I now live - straight across Lake Michigan from Frankfort, MI), and I think it is an amazing sailboat. I'm looking forward to following your adventures! Best wishes and safe travels!
Oh wow! There weren't very may made (less than 20?) and I know there are few in the Great Lakes. We also had someone who owns one message us from New Zeeland that the previous owner had sailed there. We love the boat, thanks for watching!
I live in Sturgeon Bay. My Dickerson 41 ketch is stored for the season in Sister Bay at Yacht Works but will be at Center Pointe Marina in Sturgeon Bay after mid May.
Love beaver island. Just got back after Labor Day.
Hope you're having a great time! Sweet drone shots.
The "cob"?
Found it cool gadget.
Yeah it's the Cobb Grill, it's a portable charcoal grill and we love it!
I'm hooked! Loved the finger map spot, make that a regularly thing. Looking forward to sharing in your adventures!!
We met you Aug 13 at S Benjamin -- we were the dark blue cutter anchored just north of you. You two paddle boarded ashore in that anchorage's reedy north end and we spoke. Sorry about asking if your boat was an Ericson 36 and being corrected a 39 - no offense. Then last night we stumbled into your TH-cam channel and loved it! Looking forward to seeing many more videos from you. And when you're down on Lake Erie if you're in Lorain Ohio be sure to stop in at the Boat Club next to the Coast Guard station (first night free) and say "Hi!" Fair Winds and Deep channels -- especially if you do much of the eastern Georgian bay.
Yes, of course, we remember (you were on the blue 44 Gozzard). Glad you enjoyed the video! We've been filming and documenting as we go, but we're a bit behind already - we've been having too much fun in the North Channel! We're only going as far east as the Bustard Islands. Before starting the trek south.
