Curious, is there anywhere for the front decks to drain besides all the way to the stern?
Hi Doug - yes there are two drain holes just aft of the anchor locker area but the majority of the drainage is off the transom
🇵🇭♥️♥️♥️
Your videos help so much!
Amazing demonstration. Thank you!
Hi Guys, you will find a great video undertaken by Inspiration Marine crossing the channel in challenging weather in the Moody 48 with Yachting Monthly.
This is really EZ button sailing. I can't get over how well those bulwarks and the stainless rail are designed. Low heel, quick passage making, and lots of safety. Well done, Moody.
Thank you - they really have done a superb job of the design and build.
Nice boat, nice presentation My next boat........i hope🥰🥰🥰
Fantastic detail. however, I was hoping that your video showed manoeuvrability in the marina. You walk through stressed the thrusters and I was hoping to see them in action.
Hi Clive - I am happy to do a separate manoeuvrability video when the opportunity arises. I will get it done as soon as I can. Kind regards Phil
Really great video. Did I miss the battery storage?
Hi Mike I am not sure I did specifically sorry - there are 4 domestic batteries, which are 160ah each on this boat. They are mounted just inside the fuel tanks, which means there are 2 either side in the engine bay. There are the 2 more of these for the bow thruster and stern thruster (24v in series) and also a dedicated engine start battery too.
The interior joinery construction and quality of the Moody/Hanse lines has deteriorated it seems in the last few years. The plywood looks cheap and the drawers all look IKEA like. Would be quite raggedy after a couple seasons in my opinion. I’d rather a pay a little extra for more robust design and quality in these areas.
Thank you for taking the time to comment but it doesn't sound like you have had the opportunity to have a look around one in person. You would be very welcome to arrange a visit if you would like to. We are based at Hamble Point Marina near Southampton in the Uk if you would like to get aboard. After 18 years with Hanse I am happy to let you know that the quality of the interior fittings and finishing has got better during this time.
Great boat. Clever and practical design features. Fantastic deck storage, I think Moody has finally got the deck saloon concept to work really well in this one. Only thing I would add is a big screen for the saloon nav station and to varnish the cockpit tables. I probably would have liked a twin rudder option, as it’s a beamy boat and when healed it’s going to lift that single rudder out of the water unless sail is quickly reduced. You didn’t mention what the draft is and whether there’s a shoal draft option?
Thanks for this walk through! Does the 41 have a single rudder or twin rudders?
Hi Brian - the DS41, 48 and 54 all have a single rudder - the DS45 was the only model have twin rudders
Congratulations!! I think it is the most professional, explicit, detailed presentation. There is no price to be perfect. :)
Really kind of you thank you. The price varies quite considerably depending on the specification but typically are around £500,000 GBP excluding VAT
My only issue with this video is that the guy keeps saying "the heads is". Plural noun, but singular verb. Should be "the head is" or "the heads are".
Strangely and a little bit like "sheep" is both singular and plural in English, "Heads" is used for both singular and plural.
The term is "head".
this is a video about you under sail, i wouldn't call this a video about the boat under sail. youve got about 6 seconds of the interior under sail, half a second of the rigging thru the skylight, and 30 minutes of a closeup on your own face. i think you might be in love.
What's the price for one specced such as this?
A typical specification for a 360 is about £300,000 inc VAT, delivered and ready to sail in the UK. This particular one is a little bit more as we have upgraded it even further with laminate sails, larger engine with folding prop, larger plotter, extra fridges and a few other bells and whistles
@@inspirationmarine that's a realistic price for such a beauty. Love the design!
That's crazy how spacious it is!. Even some 40footers should be jealous
It feels very similar to a 40 footer of 10 years ago
Nice walkthrough, Isn´t there a couple variations of the front cabin?
Hi Rick. Yes good point but we have only ever delivered the owner's suite layout so I forgot apologies. It is possible to split the forward cabin space into two doubles or even 4 single bunks
@@inspirationmarine Thanks!
Terrific overview, unrushed, professional and very thorough. Possibly a marmite boat for some but I love them, you probably get 3 or 4 metres where the raised salon/galley provide space for another tier below, giving it the accommodation - or at least storage - of a much larger boat. Could an owner fit davits on the transom if they wanted to carry the dinghy inflated? A little surprised she doesn't have a watertight bulkhead forward of the rudder as well as the two in the bow. If the damage rips the stock out you'll very likely lose the boat. Overall though I think she's a great boat, her differences to the norm make her more appealing.
Hi Philip - apologies for not covering it but as long as the three Lewmar hatches in the transom bulkhead are closed, that is a watertight bulkhead - the channels you can see are just cockpit drains.
This is a really great review actually. So many modern yacht reviews just demonstrate that most designers are unable to really change the fundamentals of what a yacht is and what it can do - changes are no more than nuances. The Moody DS designs are really something different and I do think about things like redundancy in steering, integrity of the steering column and water-tightness in the event of a collision. This DS is also a dream for a single handed cruiser as long as it is optioned correctly but I guess there are only going to be a select few who can upgrade from a 1970’s dinosaur to something like this and slip the lines and head off around the world. In my dreams…..
Another great video and a very clear and precise overview
Thanks Steve - much appreciated
Nice cruising boat so long as you have a mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, and electronics engineer on board.Otherwise stay in a well serviced marina. 5 star hotels do not fit in to sea going sail boats.
Wonderful detail. Thank you.
Great walk through, thanks for sharing.
I’m sold, great performance in all conditions. Was thinking Hylas or Oyster but this has added another possibility 👍
Great and thorough walkthrough, You hit all the important points. Would love to see a sailing video to show the performance at all points of sail.
Hi Paul - thank you - we plan to get out to do that on video before the boat show if we can. We did go through all of the points of sail with Yachting Monthly and their review should be available in a month or so.
Nice documentation of your passage. How did you furl the mainsail when the wind picked up? Did you need to point the boat into the wind to do so?
Thank you - The Selden furling main sails should be furled with the boom out on the port side, so that the batten pockets furl on the inside of the wrap and the sail' entry into the mast cavity is smoother with less friction. As we were on port tack for 90% of the trip over we had to tack onto starboard and then sailed on the jib for a minute to alter the main sail.
The kitchen is small for a big boat. The plans and organization are not optimized enough in my opinion.
The layout in this video is the smaller of the two galley options but quite honestly felt plenty big enough for 5 of us on the channel crossing (and masses of storage). If you prefer a larger galley however this is no problem with slightly less saloon seating space
A proper realistic impression of what to expect from this craft under sail. One observation from someone who has had to fix leaks on through deck fittings , how easy is it to access underside of fittings mounted on raised gunwailes. Just curious, probably not a problem if I could afford to part exchange for latest model after 3 years. Super boat .
Good question but actually the way these are built in terms of through deck fittings, a leak is very rarely an issue. There is an aluminium backing plate laminated underneath wherever there is a fitting (or could be a fitting), so there is very rarely any requirement in terms of fittings to gain access underneath. If a fitting were to be damaged in an accident, the backing plate could be re-tapped to be larger for a larger fitting from above deck and then re-sealed. A clever and future proof way of doing this.
Beautiful looking boat and looks well built too. It has a very ‘solid’ look to it.
It felt VERY solid underway even with 40 knot gusts and a reasonable sea. Notably not a single sound below decks of any creaking or groaning.
super
Nice video, thank you. It would be nice to see one more video of the same trip with the sails maneuvering, since you did lots of them. How they furl out and in with the press of a button, the sheets and winches and etc.
Thank you for your comment - I don't have any footage of this aspect but we will head out and get some footage of the sail handling and operation when we have the opportunity
@@inspirationmarine I was about to make the exact same comment. There is no one on the Internet that does boat reviews INCLUDING sail and overall boat maneuvering. We want to see well documented reefings, gybes, tacks, etc. A boat chugging along with set sails doesn't tell a story.
Great walkthrough again, thanks! Just curious, why did they go back to single rudder? The DS45 had twin rudders?
The twin rudder design on the 45 was a bit of a compromise needed to create a larger dinghy storage space at the back, which has not been needed on the 48 as it is physically large enough to achieve the dinghy garage space, whilst also retaining the preferred single rudder design. The DS41 and DS54 are also single rudder models. Although there are times when twin rudders can offer advantages, the reduced manoeuvring ability of twin rudder designs is considered better to avoid if possible. The DS48 has a very clever steering system, which offers an extra level of redundancy, meaning that if there is an issue with one side of the steering the other can work independently of it. This also means you can have 2 autopilot drives, which is a great feature too.
Great walkthrough, very informative and thoughtful. Thanks!
zum Wäsche waschen in die Backskiste klettern. Toll, das können Andere besser...Wer so ein Schiff bestellt, sollte die Werkbank und den Werkzeugkasten gleich mitbestellen...
It is your choice where you have the washing machine positioned - there is a workshop layout available which further increases the storage space, houses the washer/dryer and includes a workbench area. There are numerous layouts available to suit each persons requirements.
She just uses the name "moody", it has nothing to do with the British moody quality.
A lot of people would argue better quality now built in Germany by one of the world's leading shipyards. There will be a Yachting Monthly 48 hour boat test available soon.
Moody quality I’m working on a moody 46 keel bolt job right now let me tell you 😂😂😂
Of course, it's better now
Good review (likewise the interior). Unhurried, thorough, informative and refreshingly free of overkill.
Thank you - we will be giving a sailing one a go tomorrow when we cross the Channel and back - standby.
Draft is the answer to happiness…
2.15m on the standard draft and 1.85m for the shoal option. I have only sailed the standard so far, which is wonderfully stiff.
No creaking underfoot❤ Definitely not a beneteau 😂
Not a single sound - REALLY nicely built
Not priced like one either....
@@philipwright7186 Very true - you get what you pay for as with everything in life it seems!
All v good so far, has the hull shape changed and performance improved under sail since Hanse took over production? Looking forward to objective commentary on the sailing thanks
The hull shapes have changed since Hanse took over 17 years ago but still designed by Bill Dixon and his team. I have sailed all of the DS models, which perform really nicely in terms of being very seakindly and solid to sail and also offer a really good turn of speed.
Let’s see a review under sail please
Hi Guy - we are off to the Channel Islands with Yachting Monthly next week - so that review will follow as soon as we can.
Hi Guy - we are heading off across the Channel and back on Monday and Tuesday, so we will get some footage and upload the video as soon as we can. Yachting Monthly will be with us, so keep an eye out for theirs too
I am wondering why the DS48 as the DS41 don't have an opening window on the big glass front facing forward. Despite having some openings in the roof, I could imagine being at anchor in warm climate: any breeze would be welcomed.
Good morning. I have a question with regard to fresh water tank. Although it was not mentioned in the video, it seems that it was located under the master cabin bed. If it is so than location of watermaker should be in the front sail locker. Thenk you
Apologies for the late reply. The watermaker is mounted in the machinery space where the engine and generator are situated.
C’mon man it was sea trials Friday like a week plus ago. Where’s the video?
Hi Justin, Friday was blowing 30 knots +, so we had to cancel it and re-schedule - We are now planning a two day trip across the channel and back 15th/16th July with Yachting Monthly for an extended test.
@@inspirationmarine awesome can’t wait for that. But you know 30 knots would have made for some interesting video as well. Nice showing for how neat the deck saloon can be in less than ideal scenarios.
What about heat insulation on these boats? I have helped deliver a few new boats and they always feel damp anywhere north of Portugal. I’d be interested to know if there is any hull insulation fitted under the accomodation?
Dear Tony - The larger Hanse models (including the new 410) benefit from a balsa core in both the hull (above the waterline) and the deck, which offers a nice amount of insulation. The Hanse's are also market leader when it comes to deck ventilation, which is also hugely beneficial
I really wonder what happened to the huge storage area exist in DS41 and also wonder what is layed out after the stairs to the engine room area is it spared for storage?
There area under the stairs in the DS41 is taken up by a large under saloon floor storage area. This area can accommodate a full sized washer/dryer, additional fridge/freezer, domestic battery bank, useful storage and the electrical systems for easy access and maintenance.
Excellent. I would also like to know if the main sail was vertical battened. Also is the flooring was standard flexiteak or upgraded real teak. Thanks and best regards
Hi Kemal - Yes the main sail in this case is a vertically battened triradial cruising laminate sail. The decking is Flexiteek. Planning to do a sailing video this afternoon, so stay tuned for that
@@inspirationmarine when can we expect to see the video of sea trial. Thank you
This is really the best Moody DS I’ve ever seen. I would lobe to see the outside ( although see the videos of Duesseldorf ), especıally the sail wardrobe Thanks and best regards
Thank you. We will add an exterior video soon and will also include the sails, too.
well explained Phil, thanks 👍
We delivered a Hanse 455 from Amsterdam to Southampton - fantastic boats!
