    Any tips on keeping post protectors from slipping out of the post like some want to do? glue? inserting a splinter of wood or toothpick on the outside diameter of the post protector?

    • @HAASCableRailing

      Great question! When installing post protectors in outdoor environments, it's common for swelling and shrinking to occur which can cause a post protector to pop out. A little bit of wood glue is a great addition to prevent this.

    Can I use a Revo lag end stop on an angle, at the end of a set of stairs?

    • @HAASCableRailing
      @HAASCableRailing ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Yes, the REVO Lag End Stop (and Tensioner) can be used to tension cable railing on an angle. Many of our customers install them perpendicular to the floor and use transition post protectors on the other side to allow the cable to safely bend to match the angel of the staircase. A secondary option would be to install the tensioning and end stop components at the same angle as your stair run, and use angle washers on either side so that the components have a flat surface to leverage against. Hope this answers your question!

    Is there a general rule of thumb for how tight to have your cables?

    • @HAASCableRailing
      @HAASCableRailing ปีที่แล้ว

      As you may notice, at starting at 5:23, we don't recommend a particular torque value since there are too many variables each customer's installation. So, the amount of tautness is up to you. When tensioning each cable run, use a finger or hand to push on that particular cable to test the resistance. Once you find the desired tension, repeat with all the cables, going back over them to make sure they're all equally tensioned.

  • @ExtremeDIY

    Hey Tyler, is there a way to use the low profile end stops on a through post tensioner? My customer has some short spans on his 2nd story deck around his stair case railings but doesn’t want to see the tensioners or have the end caps sticking out. One of the posts is butted against the house, so I don’t have access to the back side.

    • @HAASCableRailing
      @HAASCableRailing ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Christian. This scenario of these short spans would require a combo of either 1) a lag end stop, and a through-post tensioner (end cap), or 2) a lag tensioner (turnbuckle) and low-profile stop. When our customers are presented with cases like these where minimalism is top-priority, the bulk will choose option 1 (endcap), but this all depends on the customer preference. There always needs to be a tensioner and end stop. The only ways to tension a cable railing span like this is in-line tensioning with a turnbuckle, or through-post swage stud tensioning with the threaded stud hidden by the end cap. Does that all make sense? Thanks for the comment!

  • @Ultravonder
    @Ultravonder ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the question is really about how the specs of the cable rail system works with post spacing. If a 4” ball can’t be passed through each cable, how far apart can the cable be tensioned to ensure it doesn’t flex enough to allow the ball to pass through? That’s the question I can’t find the answer to.

    • @HAASCableRailing
      @HAASCableRailing ปีที่แล้ว

      A well-tensioned cable railing system that is comprised of cable spaced every 3 inches, with intermediate posts space every 4 feet will not allow a 4 inch sphere to pass through and will pass most inspections in the states. Your state/county might differ from national code so, if you are getting your project inspected, get in contact with the inspector and ask how far apart cables should be and how tensioned do they expect the system to be.

    Got a problem, every video we watched had 9 cables between the 2x6 Top Cap. That means there's 10 bays. 10 times 3 is only 30" so how's that work out? The template measures 3 inches between each hole. 9 cables means there's 10 bays which is only 30". We just bought your system and now we are either left with buying more or spacing out the cables to 3.5". Please explain the discrepancy.

    • @HAASCableRailing
      @HAASCableRailing ปีที่แล้ว

      Every system is different and planning out how many cables and how far apart those cables should be the first priority. You will find out how many rows of cable you'll need by measuring the space between your top cap and the floor and dividing by 3 and subtracting 1. Many of our customer's deck balustrades measure 36 inches meaning that they'll have 11 rows of cable spaced every 3 inches.

    What size hole is needed in pine for the 1/8”post protectors

    • @HAASCableRailing
      @HAASCableRailing ปีที่แล้ว

      For pine, you'll drill a 3/8" hole anywhere you're using 1/8" or 3/16" wood post protectors.

    Maybe I missed it, but I’m curious if you use the 1/8th inch or the 3/16 inch cable on the project. Thank you.

      Hi there! We're using 1/8" components and cable for this project. The workflow is identical when using either size. Thanks for the comment!

    Does the Haas axis system accommodate 3/16 stainless steel cable?

      Yes! The HAAS AXIS System is available in 1/8" and 3/16" size fittings.

    What is the maximum length of a cable run? One side of my primary deck is 60 feet long. It has wooden 4 x 4 posts from floor to ceiling about every 7 1/2'. Local code requires a post in between these. Does your company sell the small intermediate posts? I didn't see them on your website. Thanks and great video.

    • @HAASCableRailing
      @HAASCableRailing ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the questions! First, you will not need to break up your run if the 60ft run is consistent with no bend in it. 75ft is the max run length that we recommend. Second, we do not sell intermediate posts, but you shouldn't have trouble finding a local supplier depending on what you want your intermediate posts to be.

    Is there a trick to threading longer runs (7+ feet) of cable into the end stops other than just brute strength? I'm finding that the longer my runs are, the more they resist twisting into the threads.

      Great question! The best way is to make sure the cables are laying as perpendicular to the posts and spread your hands out, holding as much of the cable as possible. For longer runs, have a partner holding the other end of the cable turning it simultaneously. Hope this helps!

    why is this kit so long? does HAAS make anything where the cable is "hidden" inside the post with internal tensioner?

    • @HAASCableRailing
      @HAASCableRailing ปีที่แล้ว

      We do! It's the HAAS Stainless REVO Thru-Post Tensioner. It effectively hides the tensioning component inside the termination post, and can only be used if the backside of that post is accessible. You can watch this video to learn more th-cam.com/video/ZCdkItqVNK8/w-d-xo.html

    Do your kits come with plastic bushings or something similar to separate the stainless steel from the aluminum or coated steel post so that galvanic corrosion doesn't occur?

    • @HAASCableRailing
      @HAASCableRailing ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question, Drew! At the time of this comment, we don't carry any bushings to insulate the cable from the posts. The best way to avoid galvanic corrosion on your cable railing system is to powder coat or paint the posts after drilling, making sure the rims of your holes are coated as well. That way, no matter what material your metal posts are made of, you'll largely avoid any corrosion issues.

    Also, whats the maximum distance between posts you recommend? I have 4x4 cedar posts with a max of just under 6'

    • @HAASCableRailing
      @HAASCableRailing ปีที่แล้ว

      The max distance that we recommend is 6'. If you need your project inspected at any point, you'll wanna check your local building code, but if you don't, you should be good to go!

    what's the spacing on the template between cables?

    • @HAASCableRailing
      @HAASCableRailing ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! For our HAAS Cable Railing Marking Template, the holes measure 3 inches apart.

    Hello, what about a cylindrical metal post, how do i measure that? And do we need wood post protector (wpp) in metal posts? Thank you.

    Looking at the hydraulic swaging tool vs the Crenshaw swager, it looks like the hydraulic swager uses a one-step process whereas the Crenshaw requires an additional crimp after turning the cable 90-degrees, is this correct? Trying to see which tool offers the most efficient installation process

    • @HAASCableRailing
      @HAASCableRailing ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! Once you get the hang of it, the Crenshaw Swager is miles faster and more efficient even though you're crimping a second time. We only recommend a hydraulic swager like this only if the Crenshaw Swager is unavailable/back ordered.
