@Greeny: you mentioned you are riding the dominator2 at 5’-7”. How tall are you and what is your weight?
Sick review. How would you compare to Sweet Spot?
How would you dial in the volume? How much liters would you go up from your hpsb? Thanks!
What's the catch on taking one for a demo?
Yeah and you are about 4 foot tall and weight 55kg. Geez we wish you board reviewers would wake up to the realities of real male sizes.
Yeah because you only weight 70kg. Like me when I was 12. For heavier guys DH has stupidly widened the boards to 22.5 to 23 inches nearly. Ridiculous. Not a performance board at all once you get it over 5'10". These shapers have to wake up to thickness, not extra wideness. Why they can only cater to light guys is anyone's guess.
I'm glad you wrote that because I was thinking the same thing but was wondering if it was just me. I'm 95kg and want a 35 litre board, but it's so difficult to find a sub 6' board that is maximum 20" wide.
Can u do happy every day?ci
The more I ride this the more I like it..put it up For sale twice and got it back Both times..never again. It’s sooo good in average to good waves. So fast!!
Yeah it's a board I keep going back to! She's a gooden...
What other fins have you tried beside the AM’s ?
To be honest mate, I only tried the AMs as they've always been a staple of mine. Probably should have tried some others to see if the motor of the board was any different. Could have made it a V8... but on the flip side, could have changed it into a golf buggy. One of the other staff said he was using the MF large and thought it went super.
@@slimesboardstore6667 Good deal seems like an rake fin performs better, tried the performer and kolohine Adino fin the AM’s so far felt the best . I give mick fanning an try as well as an quad
is there a shark in the wave on your outside at 1.13???
Mate, my eyes aren't that great so i wouldn't know. I watched the clip back and can't confirm or deny. Probably just a heap of seaweed... haha :)
Have u ride this in a quad? How was it?
Hey Michael, Nah I haven't ridden the FMN with the quad setup. In the review I have a quiver of three boards all with thruster setups. I prefer to have the predictability and flow of the thruster in these size boards. However I do have a 7'0 , 8'0 and 8'6 gun from JS designed off the FMN and they are all quads, but these are full Rhino chasers. I'll always tend towards the thruster for the maneuverability when turns are achievable. Yew
Hi great review! I’m intermediate and 1.83 73 kilos you suggest 5.8 or 5.7?
I'd usually recommend running with something around the litres that you personally ride, depending on how much shorter you have to get the board - Remember to always grab some more literage as this is a twinny. The other manager at our store is the same weight and height as you and he's been playing around on the 5'7 lately. Rip in! Slimes
This or the glazer what do you prefer?
I would rather the Glazer in smaller weaker conditions as it has more foam and a flatter rocker, and prefer the Dominator II as an all round shortboard as it suits waves with a bit more punch.
Do you think this board will perform in waves that are overhead
I rode it in waves that are overhead and it went alright. But I found that riding it with the MR 2+1 fins as I did, it performed best in 2ft - 6ft.
@@slimesboardstore6667 thanks for the info!
@@slimesboardstore6667 if you had to recommend this or the dominator 2 for punchy beach breaks with some power and occasional hollow sections what would you say is a better choice
@@stevehills5753 They are both good boards but it really depends if you'd rather be on a twinny or thruster. You'll probably find that the Dominator 2 being a thruster will be drivier and hold better in those hollow sections
@@slimesboardstore6667 thank you
Sweet review! Is this board suitable for a low intermediate surfer? You absolutely rip on it and make it look awesome, but just wondering how a jerry up and coming surfer would go on it. Tossing up between this and a CI Rocket Wide
The Flat Earth is definitely suitable for a more advanced surfer, so if you're tossing up between the two and you say you're at more of an intermediate level i'd be looking at the Rocket Wide. I guess what you also need to consider here is also what kind of waves you want to ride the board in... The Flat earth is more of a performance twin, so maybe better for everyday waves, and the Rocket Wide you'd be looking at riding in smaller conditions. Hope this helps. Yew, Slimes
Just surfed it in ledgy two foot over head today here in Hawaii, worked way better in the bigger faster stuff than on the mushier ones. It was just as drivey and fast as the Seaside quad in the stand up surf, but more controlled. Better entry. But, it plows water up front paddling into smaller stuff and it’s a little slower too. I keep reading reviews that have this board doing contradictory things. Rob says it grovels. Everyone here with one says it doesn’t grovel. Guys on TH-cam: doesn’t grovel. Except for you and Rob. So weird. I love it. Great addition to my Seaside. Not much of a transition since templates are sorta similar. Recommend!
I tend to agree, I’d say this board shines in the larger stuff even at its smaller size… with the added volume you can get in super early to set your line. I’ve got the 5’5”
Great review! How would you compare it with DHD Phoenix?
Yo Steven, I think the phoenix is still a smaller wave board than the BV2. I consider the BV2 to be closer to an all-round go-to board for everyday waves. I rode the Phoenix a few inches shorter than the BV2 at the same volume so it felt looser and fit into the curve of the smaller waves better. Both surf really well in small to mid-size waves, so you can't really go wrong with either. Keep rippin'
Spicy.
What's the size of Ethan Turner? Thx!
5'11 and 74 kegs
@@slimesboardstore6667 thank you!
vulgar old guy
Could you let me know your weight and tall vs board CL?
Hey there, I'm 82kg and 5'10. The 5'8 I rode in the review is 30.9L. I usually ride 28-29L in my performance boards, but always jump up a litre or two when riding firewire or twins. Yew
@@slimesboardstore6667 Thank you for your prompt reply! I got it. I am 59years and 80kg & 5'9". So usually use bit over flow for example ELTOMO Fish 5'9". but it is good at my home point Inamura Kamakura. Again I appreciate for you reply! Have a nice day. Greeting from Kamakura.
@@yamtex2532 No worries mate. G'day from Central Coast New South Wales Australia.
how tall are you?
5'11
Thanks for the review - no offence intended - the board looks like a slug in a bog, and with no centre fin, it doesn't pivot and drive. Slooow. Bad board for intermediates to improve on. A mid length quad? Surely a silly idea. Why make turning all that length even harder? Why not at least have the centre fin plug for those that want a positive feel? It's not true that all these new 'innovative' designs from Firewire and others are always an improvement. Some are just gimmick designs - 'something different'.
uh huh
Nope. Skill issue for you 😅
Hey! how tall are you?
I'm around the 5'9 mark
World is 100% flat, the one that can prove to me water can stick to a spinning ball will get 1 Bitcoin in reward Flat earth search terms algorithms is in favour and manipulated by youtube so you need to put in eric dubay & oddtv to ovoid the false info
damn, hell of a name for a shop
I have this in the 5.6 I could have gone 5.5 but always happy with the extra size in this. Must have large fins in this for critical drops. It has been my 2/3 foot barrel work horse. Love it. Only criticism I find it difficult to send it full virt on the back hand. But that just me and because the waves are small.
Hey mate I’m tossing up between this and the dominator 2.0... which one surfs top to bottom in the pocket better in 1-4? Thanks a lot, might have to come up to try some sizes
Hey Shano, I reckon at the 1-4 foot range the Glazer would be perfect. Though the Dominator 2 was actually one of my favourite Firewire boards to date, i feel like it's more of a solo board that you take to the beach not knowing the conditions and can surf it 90% of the time. If i only had one board, i'd reccomend the Dominator 2.0 but if you have another board for when the waves are overhead run a Glazer, they're heaps of fun. We have a 5'4, 5'5, 5'6, 5'7, 5'8 and 5'9 demos in the Glazer and 5'7, 5'8, 5'9, 5'11, 6'1 and 6'8 demos in the Dominator 2 if you want to throw one under your feet before committing. Hope this helps bud, Greeny
If you had to test this board again, would you grab the 5'9? I'm 5'6 77-78 kg and ride 29L hpsb.
The 5'9 is 31.8L and the 5'8 is 30.4L Id definitely give the 5'9 a lash but I think the volume might be that bit too much. I have a couple of other staff that are around your weight and they would be riding the 5'8, if not, 5'7 or 5'6. There's obviously a heap of factures that come into play here but.
How much do you weigh? And how many liters is your regular high performance shortboard?
Hey Michael, I weigh in at 82kg and usually ride between 28L and 29L on my performance boards. The board I rode in this review was a 5'8 @ 30.9L. I always ride a litre or so more when on a Firewire. Hope this helps. Yew
Absolutely shredding it!
cool review Greeny!! i also felt the issue you mentioned with going extra liter mainly on the LFT.im advanced 72 kg (52 years) and i normally ride 28-28.5 eps (mainly HS boards).need to decide 5'6 or 5'7 Dominator 2 .... is it ok to ask for your wight? board should be my Al rounder and not my groveler.. mmmm though decision.. :-)
I'm 56 years young and weigh around 82kg before dinner. In PU shortboards I ride around the 28L mark but when I ride any of the firewire models I can jump to 30 or 31L easily, keeping in mind they are usually a shorter model. To make it easier for you, feel free to come try the 5'7 @ 29.4L we have as a demoboard so you can determine whether that's where you wanna go. We have a range of demos in the Dominator 2.0 ranging from 5'7 to 6'8. Hope this helps. Yew
@@slimesboardstore6667 great idea bro.can you sent me a one way flight ticket from Israel to you guys?😝😝😝 took your advice with the volume🤟
@@eyalpolishook6486 Haha not at the moment mate... You know, COVID and all. Glad we could help. Drop in next time you're in Aus.
@@slimesboardstore6667 hi Greeny..a different question.your level..old school power surf...beach breaks 1-2.5 feet...can choose only one board... evo or a seaside??🤔🤔
@@eyalpolishook6486 In this case, I'm running a seaside all day. I think in those conditions, the quad and the width of the seaside are gonna give me that little bit more inspiration to go get amongst it.
Slimey!
Whats your weight and height?
Sorry for the late reply mate. I'm 5'9 and around the 75kg mark.
🤙🏼
hello!!! in this video you are surfing not that big or punchy waves...and it seems that the ghost handles them pretty well... you surf very well, but the volume of the board helped? Is 27 lts your normal lts or is it above that ? The question is beacause i want to get a ghost to ride in good waves (not necesarily big) but with power... and don´t know if it is a good idea..
Yeah 27L is my standard volume on all boards around 5'9 to 5'11. This 5'10 that I rode in the clip I've found perfect for anything chest to a couple of feet overhead. If the waves were "macking" then I'd be more inclined to ride one of these but maybe a size or two longer, just to get that extra paddle. Either way, it's an epic board for any solid or powerful swells.
talk about the rails and rocker of the board
i came here for the rocker too lol..
Sweet vid! Do you feel a big difference in paddle power and glide going from the 6.8 to the 7.0? Also do you lose a lot of maneuverability?
Thank you for this awsome review. I had some questions that maybe you can answere me. I’m looking for a groveler with most of a short board feeling. I also have a monsta box 5’9 27l for better surf days. Will the phoenix complete my quiver? Or should I look for something more “groveler” like a pjhp?
Cheers for that! I'd definitely recommend one as a groveller. There are obviously shorter boards on the market carrying higher volumes for grovelling, but if you want a performance small wave sled, you're onto a good thing here. Maybe the 5'6 @ 27.5L could be up your alley? We do both the PU and EPS versions in-store. Hope this helps.
Got my 6”8 last week, loving it!
Sick vid, id love to see a Channel Islands rocket wide please 🤞🤙
Loving my D2 - so much speed and control in such a range of conditions! Quads are definitely my go to as well!
It should be called huge gonad's because that's what you have bruva 🤙 yeeewwwww
Enjoying the reviews legends yeeeeeww \m/
what fins did you use and are the fins set further back than standard on these? thanks
Hey Troy, sorry about the late, late reply. Fins are just set up to be a thruster so I used my Large Mick Fanning fins in the clip but I've also tried the MR Twin with the stabilizer and that felt pretty good too. It's a great board cause it allows you to play with fins to change it up and find what you're in to. Yew
I have this board and because of how boxy the tail is. Medium fins slipped out on critical barrel bottom drops. I put jjf larg and now it is a little barrel machine.
Very Very good board just the best
