    James Randi is just an old outdated senile magician grouch. Stanford and CIA tested Uri relentlessly and even had a magician to check for fraud and he was VALIDATED without question. Oil companies paid him to find oil and he found oil, the CIA hired him because they help validate his skills etc. I think Randi was so focused on proving that there is no such thing as paranormal that he became blinded to "facts", and he was so entrenched in his belief that he probably couldn't bear to be proven wrong. Yes there are fakes out there. Maybe Randi felt threatened as if Uri was a better man than him if Uri's unique abilities were real of which they were but Randi had to prove them unreal. I trust the rigorous testing of Stanford and CIA over a ego tripping old magician fart.

Instead he implies it by bashing obvious fakes. IMO, Randy is as much of a fake as Uri. He, Michael Shermer and others like them want to control what we believe, but they lack common sense. Who would you consider is correct, an Aeronautical Engineer and F-18 pilot who flies off an aircraft carrier who has seen countless UFO's fly around his aircraft, validated by sophisticated radar, or a debunker like Randy or Michael? I think the reason Uri's career wasn't destroyed that night on the Carson show, was because many viewers wanted to believe Uri did have superpowers. And so then framed the fact that because Uri didn't display them that night, because Uri was being pressured, he was legit. Without understanding the preparation neccessary to perform magic tricks, they justified his failure to perform as proof of him being legitimate. Because, they thought, if he was relying on tricks he would have been able to perform. I do believe however that real "magic" is possible by some people, but not Uri Geller. BTW, I was sucked in, I still have a Uri Geller Kit I bought back then with a crystal that has been "personally empowered" by him.

My point is that Randy is catering to a crowd that religiously follow so called experts or scientists and doubt everything else. Take him off the subject of Uri Geller and you'd find out how unwise (stupid) he really is. Even the masters, Penn and Teller, would laugh at the UFO phenomenon. Randy's cynicism goes far beyond Geller when he starts by saying "magical thinking is a slippery slope." Why does he say it is "dangerous" to believe in a fake like Geller? Because there are a slough of other topics that he believes are fake as well...without ever "investigating." Uri Geller has participated in many laboratory-setting controlled studies of his abilities. Psychic powers is NOT about performing or being a magician. It is not for entertainment and it is not to be on stage. Psychic powers connects and channels energy from the divine. Do you honestly think the divine would channel it's energy to perform on a stage? That's corruption. They are not channel for entertainment, they are channeling to heal humanity. It blows my mind that some people think you can point a finger and tell a psychic to perform a certain way... it doesn't work like that. How many times do psychics need to tell you that that's not how it works...

  • @Therock151214

    Difference between a true magician and a conman is that the magician makes it clear that what he is doing is merely sophisticated trickery to deceive the senses of the audience for the purposes of entertainment (even if he doesn’t reveal the exact mechanism behind his tricks), where as a conman not only deceives the eyes his audience but also lies and seeks to intellectually deceive them (into believing something suitable to his/her agenda).

    I applaud Randi's agenda and work in unmasking such frauds, but will relate a memorable personal experience involving Uri Geller who had a television special, probably around 1976 or so, that I watched at a friend's house. Geller told the viewers to bring near the television any broken electrical devices to see if "we" in collaboration, him and us, could get the broken item working again through the power of our minds. I asked my friend if he had anything we could use. After a moment he replied "Yeah, an old broken power drill." He fetched it from his patio and brought it into the living room, plugged its long orange cord into an outlet and said "Here you go." I tried all the outlets in the room just to be certain, but the drill absolutely did not work and was completely non-operable. I asked my friend how long it had been broken and he replied "For years." The big moment came and Geller instructed all of us with broken devices to make certain they were connected to a working electrical outlet, then at his command focus on the device and shout "Work, work, work." My friend and I shouted the command intensely while my finger depressed the broken trigger and THE DRILL BEGAN WORKING!!!!! I depressed the trigger again and the drill worked, and my friend depressed the trigger and it worked. We could not believe it and were yelling like crazy. No question, our interaction with Uri Geller caused a long broken power drill to somehow repair itself. However, the repair was temporary and within about half an hour the drill was once again non-operable and remained that way. The experience was one of those monumental and unforgettable moments of my life. Whatever was going on was no trick or illusion. I wonder how Randi would debunk this.

    • @ssjcosty
      @ssjcosty 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      > _"No question, our interaction with Uri Geller caused a long broken power drill to somehow repair itself"_ Wait, how do you know that this is actually the case? How did you make the connection between Uri Geller on a TV shouting "work work work" and your broken drill turning on when pressing the trigger again? This is a logical fallacy (i.e. error in reasoning) called a non-sequitur, meaning that one thing does not follow the other. It could have literally been a coincidence. And given that we know coincidences happen, yet supernatural events have never been demonstrated to happen, then this being a coincidence is the most likely explanation. Aside from this, unless you know this experience happened to *everyone* who watched Uri's programme, then it's probably nothing more than a matter of statistics and probability. Basically, depending on how high the TV audience was at that time, the probability that some viewer's faulty devices would work at that time could have been quite high. Even if the probability of this happening was 0.1%, then from an audience of say 200,000 this effect would happen to 200 people! Look up this exercise done in front of a crowd of children, where they literally show how someone could get 8 correct coin toss predictions in a row. Now the probability of someone getting 8 correct predictions in a row is very small, of only 0.391%, yet this is achieved with a very modest audience of less than 100 people. th-cam.com/video/qQg8pwwrtwY/w-d-xo.html

    Up until recently it was popular for many talk shows to have these phony so called psychics on shows and of coarse they were wrong in their predications most of the time but remind anyone who would listen about the 1 or 2 percent of the times they got something right. The worst of these in the last couple decades was the late sylvia browne who was a regular on both montel williams and larry king. You might say what's the harm, it's just entertainment. The problem is that many of the people they deal with are in a very vulnerable place and who take this shit seriously. once she was on a live radio show and was asked about the fate of some minors in west virginia who were involved in a very serious mine cave in accident. She said live on the air that she saw all of the mine workers being successfully rescued. Just after she made that prediction it was announced that all of those mine workers had in fact died. she immediatley tried to backtrack and say what she had just said was misunderstood. And the worst was twice on the montel williams show anxious parents who had children that were missing asked about the fate of there child. She told the parents that she had the unfourtunate news that both of the children were dead, and what do you know in both cases the missing dead children were found very much alive and both had been kidnapped. Just type in sylvia browne is a fake and it will go into way more detail. These so called psychics can be very dangerous especially when dealing with people who are in a very vulnerable place
