Now that skippers have access to arithmetical division machines and numerical proportion calculation have been made cheap, it is strange that calculation is taught to be performed graphically, by inflecting lines at the intersection with diagonal. Surely this technique was employed to teach barely literate captains of XIX century. But why this approach is preserved today, when everyone is free to re-scale their bell curve to particular tide heights using computational technique that is available to them.

Wicked. Useful way of knowing if it's Springs or Leaps cheers

How would you layout the high water and low water heights ? Thanks for the video !

Hi, You can layout the heights in the same way. Use one axis for the printed MHWS & MHWN and the other (inverted) for the differences. Then read across from your range of the day. Repeat the diagram again if you want to adjust low water height also.

You have simplified something I consider so difficult and concerning to me going forward to attempt my yacht master. I've been working on the Solent all my life and now at the point where I'd like to do my Master 200. To obtain this I need my yacht master but always shit myself because I don't know how to do secondary tide calculation like this. Next step is applying it to the curve. Thanks very much for this video. I really appreciate it !
