As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka; Mormon) i can say that for a LDS Christian watching this video it is like getting shot in the ear with a shotgun blast of error. This presentation contains many tiny pellets of misrepresentation which individually would not be that significant but taken all together create a giant blast of distortion. I feel concern for the non-LDS Christian people watching this video that do not know any better because it perpetuates misunderstanding and mistrust and does not bring anyone closer to “truth” as the speaker claims. While it would be impossible for me to address all of the items of misrepresentation here in this comment section I will use just one item as an example. Ricco, (I think i heard you say your name was Ricco but please forgive me if i heard wrong or spelled your name incorrectly. I do not know what to call you.) you make the claim that the Book of Mormon contradicts the Bible and then list many instances where you feel this is can be demonstrated. In one of these supposed instances of contradiction you state the Book of Mormon teaches "The Lords Supper is a common meal to feed the participants.” and reference 3 Nephi 18:8 as your source for this claim. I am simply dumbfounded as to how any reasonable person could read 3 Nephi chapter 18 and come to that conclusion. I will be including a portion of that chapter here after my comment so readers can simply read and judge for themselves. Have you even read that entire chapter yourself? It is very obvious to me and I’m sure to other LDS Christians that you do not personally of your own have the knowledge and understanding necessary to make the claims you make about the LDS Church and people in your videos. It is obvious to me that you are simply repeating what other people you trust have said about us. I do not know anything about Alvin Jennings but it is very clear to me from what i have heard from him so far that he knows extremely little about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is sad because while i personally believe you are well intended you are unfortunately even if unconciously leading others astray because you trust Alvin Jennings who has led you astray. You are not spreading truth and clarity as you claim and as i believe you honestly desire to do. You are spreading misinformation and mistrust about LDS Christians even if unaware of your own error. Please understand there are indeed significant differences between what you as a Protestant Christian believe and what I as a LDS Christian believe and i could easily tell you what those things are. But the content you are getting from Alvin Jennings that i have heard so far is frankly… junk. As LDS Christians we partake of the Sacrament (what you call the Lords Supper) every Sunday. It is the most sacred portion of our Sunday worship and activities. As we partake of His Sacrament we think on and remember Him, our Savior Jesus Christ and the great price that was paid for the privilege of repentance and His infinite forgiveness. We renew our covenants with Him that we made at baptism and recommit to take His name upon us in all things. Below is 3 Nephi 18:1-12. Also below is a link to the entire chapter... just in case. How anyone can read this chapter from the Book of Mormon and come away with the idea that LDS Christians degrade this ordinance down to a "common meal" in a way that somehow contradicts the Bible is a total mystery to me. - - - - 3 Nephi 18:1-12 1 And it came to pass that Jesus commanded his disciples that they should bring forth some abread and wine unto him. 2 And while they were gone for bread and wine, he commanded the multitude that they should sit themselves down upon the earth. 3 And when the disciples had come with bread and wine, he took of the bread and brake and blessed it; and he gave unto the disciples and commanded that they should eat. 4 And when they had eaten and were filled, he commanded that they should give unto the multitude. 5 And when the multitude had eaten and were filled, he said unto the disciples: Behold there shall one be ordained among you, and to him will I give power that he shall break bread and bless it and give it unto the people of my church, unto all those who shall believe and be baptized in my name. 6 And this shall ye always observe to do, even as I have done, even as I have broken bread and blessed it and given it unto you. 7 And this shall ye do in remembrance of my body, which I have shown unto you. And it shall be a testimony unto the Father that ye do always remember me. And if ye do always remember me ye shall have my Spirit to be with you. 8 And it came to pass that when he said these words, he commanded his disciples that they should take of the wine of the cup and drink of it, and that they should also give unto the multitude that they might drink of it. 9 And it came to pass that they did so, and did drink of it and were filled; and they gave unto the multitude, and they did drink, and they were filled. 10 And when the disciples had done this, Jesus said unto them: Blessed are ye for this thing which ye have done, for this is fulfilling my commandments, and this doth witness unto the Father that ye are willing to do that which I have commanded you. 11 And this shall ye always do to those who repent and are baptized in my name; and ye shall do it in remembrance of my blood, which I have shed for you, that ye may witness unto the Father that ye do always remember me. And if ye do always remember me ye shall have my Spirit to be with you. 12 And I give unto you a commandment that ye shall do these things. And if ye shall always do these things blessed are ye, for ye are built upon my rock. - - - Link to entire Chapter 3 Nephi 18 can be found here: www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/bofm/3-ne/18?lang=eng All the best to you in your quest for truth! As a LDS Christian and member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (what you call a Mormon) I found this video to be intriguing…. for lack of a better word. I personally enjoy learning about other faiths and especially about other forms of Christianity that are different from my own. However, I am sure any honest seeker of truth would agree that we need to represent other faiths other than our own accurately. This is a problem in this video. While very well intended I’m sure… there are major elements presented here about the LDS Church that are not represented accurately. I feel compelled to point them out as they are so glaring and obvious. While many details could be pointed out here are just the MAJOR elements that are incorrect. - The speaker states that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that Jesus Christ was not born of a virgin. This is NOT true! The LDS Church does in fact teach that Jesus Christ was born of a Virgin- just as the Bible states. The Book of Mormon as well as all the standard works of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are consistent in affirming this fact. Any claim that LDS Christians do not teach and believe Jesus was born of a virgin is misinformed or a distortion. - The speaker states that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not believe that the Holy Ghost is a person. This is NOT true! As LDS Christians we most certainly do believe that the Holy Ghost is a person- and third member of the Godhead just as the scriptures teach. - The speaker refers to and references “The Journal of Discourses” as if it is authoratative when it is not. There are ways that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints establishes its doctrine and “The Journal of Discourses” has nothing to do with that and is NOT scripture. It is obvious that the speakers understanding of how things work in the LDS Church and what is doctrine and not is very shallow at best. This lack of understanding has a lot to do with why he got the other items already listed here wrong to begin with. One aspect of this presentation that I find disturbing is how the speaker (my apologies for not knowing your name!) so easily and dismissively accuses LDS Christians and our leaders as being “liars”. I cannot get my head around this accusation as it is so contradictory from what my own personal experience has been. LDS Christians or "Mormons” as you call us, are the most sober, clean living, honest, upright people and best examples of Christian living that i have ever known- especially compared to so much of what i see in the protestant and evangelical communities all the time. I just don’t get it. You are a leader in your church. While there are areas where I know we would disagree with you or see things differently than you do we would never ascribe those difference to be a result of your having the very serious character flaw of perpetual dishonesty. I just don’t think that is the way things work- and I am VERY sure that would not be the Christ like approach. Rather, regardless of our differences I believe you are being honest to the extent that you understand things from within your own frame of reference. Being wrong, or incorrect or incomplete or different is a wholly different thing from being "dishonest" and a “liar". Good grief. Anyway, i did not intend for this comment to be so long. I learned from this video that there are two more videos on the LDS Church that precede this one. So, I am looking forward to watching those too when i can. Thank you!
