During the Corona Virus lockdown, I think we all need a little pick-me-up, a little patience, and a little kindness. Here are some videos of me playing. I know I'm not the ultimate pianist, and I know these are not note-perfect recordings. That's not the point - I'm uploading these to share with others in the hopes that it might bring a little smile to someone's day.
I hope you enjoy.
I hope you enjoy.
Chopin - Scherzo #1 in b minor, Op. 20
The first of Chopin's scherzos. Despite the word "Scherzo" meaning "Joke", there's not a whole lot humorous about this piece. Dark and stormy, with a lyrical middle section - this is Chopin at his most dramatic.

Chopin - Ballade #3 in Ab Major, op. 47
มุมมอง 726 หลายเดือนก่อน
The third of Chopin's Ballades. This one is a bit more joyful than the others, though it's not without its moments of drama.
Chopin Ballade #4 in F minor, Op. 52
มุมมอง 104ปีที่แล้ว
The fourth and last of Chopin’s ballades, this is one of his crowning achievements. Very difficult, both technically and musically, this is one of the great works of the romantic era. This is definitely not my best performance of this piece by a long-shot - there are admittedly some sections that are a bit of a mess. But oh well, I'm not going let "perfect" get in the way of "done" on this one...
Chopin - Ballade #1 in G minor, Op. 23
มุมมอง 106ปีที่แล้ว
So this was a first cut I put together of this piece, hoping that I'd get around to some additional recording sessions, but alas, it never happened... So while this is definitely not my best performance of this piece, it's the one I've got, and I figured I might as well post it. Forgive the mistakes and I hope you enjoy...
Beethoven - Egmont Overture, arr. Piano 8 hands
มุมมอง 4544 ปีที่แล้ว
Beethoven - Egmont Overture, arranged for Piano 8 hands by Theodor Herbert. In honor of Beethoven's 250th birthday, I thought this would be a fun project to present. A couple sections got slightly out of synch, but for a simple home project I think it turned out pretty decent. Thanks to Dave Smith for helping cut the videos together.
Fasch - Trumpet Concerto
มุมมอง 864 ปีที่แล้ว
Much of the works by Johann Friedrich Fasch have been lost, but this delightful trumpet concerto has survived. Performed remotely by David Zuercher and Robert Lambrech.
Chopin - Ballade #2 in F Major, op. 38
มุมมอง 914 ปีที่แล้ว
The second of Chopin’s ballades, this one introduces some curious formal decisions, such as ending in a minor instead of the expected F Major. A wonderfully lyric opening section gives way to a turbulent middle section. At the climax of the turbulence, Chopin abruptly steps back and brings back the opening theme, but in minor. On a personal note, why is it you can always play it better when the...
The Magic Trumpet, by James Burke

The Magic Trumpet, a fun little beguine composed by James Burke. Performed, using social distancing, by David Zuercher on trumpet and a Robert Lambrech on piano.
Chopin - Impromptu #4 in c# minor (Fantaisie-Impromptu)
มุมมอง 814 ปีที่แล้ว
Despite being the last impromptu published, this is the first one Chopin composed. Chopin specified that after his death his unpublished manuscripts were not to be published, but this one did get published and the world is richer for it. The opening stormy session has been compared to Beethoven’s c# minor sonata, and enough similarities exist to suggest this might be Chopin’s “take” on that fam...
Chopin Impromptu #3 in Gb, op 51
มุมมอง 1154 ปีที่แล้ว
Chopin Impromptu #3 in Gb, op 51. The third of Chopin’s impromptus, this piece starts with a beautiful, winding melody that becomes more and more intricate with double notes. It then moves to a lovely middle section with the left hand playing a cello-like melody, before returning to the opening thematic material.
Elgar Salut d'amour

Salut d'amour, by Edward Elgar. Performed by Theresa Phillips and Robert Lambrech.
Chopin Impromptu #2 in F#, op 36
มุมมอง 834 ปีที่แล้ว
Chopin Impromptu #2 in F#, op 36. The second of Chopin’s impromptus, this one perhaps best personifies the title “impromptu “. It starts with a slow nocturne-like melody, with improvisatory runs in the right hand. A short chorale section then turns to a rousing march, before returning to the original melody, but in the “wrong” key. After winding around a bit, he finds the “right” key, after whi...
The Swan, from Carnival of the Animals

The Swan, from Carnival of the Animals, by Camille Saint-Saens. Performed by Pam Chaddon and Robert Lambrech.
Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring
มุมมอง 2134 ปีที่แล้ว
Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, by J.S. Bach. Performed remotely by Jack and Robert Lambrech. Music has the wonderful ability to bring people together. This performance may not be on the best instruments, it may not be the best production quality, it may not have been done under ideal circumstances. But performing a duet with the old man during lockdown brings a special joy.

Great job. Rob. I am thrilled to see something so uplifting and beautiful come out of this pandemic. If we have to be isolated from friends and family, this was a wonderful way to use your time. Thank you.
Wow! and Beautiful!
Beethoven, he was at the end of universe where he found his tears and God.
