Hot spring and Traditional Japanese inn
VISITING MY HOMETOWN #2
I visited to a traditional Japanese inn called "Ryokan" with my parents and grand mother in Fukuoka.
Most Ryokan has a hot spring commonly known as "Onsen" , and serves delicious Japanese food. So it's a familiar healing resorts loved by most Japanese from children to the elderly.
Since there are a lot of volcanoes in Japan, there are also a lot of hot spring areas. For example, Hakone-Onsen, Kusatsu-Onsen, Beppu-Onsen and so on. There are about 3,000 areas. They have more than one "Onsen Ryokan". There are about 400 inns in Hakone-Onsen which is the closest to Tokyo. You can imagine that all over Japan is home to many many Onsen Ryokan.
They are popular and indispensable healing resorts for Japanese people who have a custom of bathing.

The halls are constructed only once shortly after a new Emperor's accession for the final ritual of the enthronement called Daijosai. It must occur during the harvest season (autumn), overnight, and into the next morning as the deities only travel at night, and usually in November after the enthronement ceremony. The Daiijokyu Halls are left up for a few weeks to allow the public to view them and then dismantled and burned. So glad you got to see and thanks for sharing this.

Thank you for your message! Yes, it was a ritual that was not well known to the general Japanese, so many people paid attention to it🙂 There are pros and cons because it is not a scientifically based ritual and a lot of money is spent, but the emperor's greatest attraction may be that his heart close to people. Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress visited several shelters during the Great East Japan Earthquake. They didn't wear the footwear they had prepared because it was an important place for people to sleep, and they knelt on the cold floor to encourage each and every one of the people. Not a religious belief, I see the emperor's human kindness and always want to be that way😮

@@saku_made_in_japan great points. I study royal history and Dajoisai dates back to 700s. I agree about the concerns. Interestingly, the orginal Daijosai ceremonies back then, the Daijokyu halls were all made of bamboo and fabric! So the ceremony wasn't always so lavish.
