Gem - I am tree - Pre Guided By Voices (original version)
Recorded and performed by Doug Gillard of Guided By Voices before GBV recorded it as one of their own. Someone here asked me to digitize this for posterity. I agree it needed to be done. Burned from 12" vinyl...So very good.

GUIDED BY VOICES - LOVING MEMORIES - FAREWELL VIDEO - 1983 - 2004 - WINDOW OF MY WORLD

This is the video that GBV played before taking the stage during their very last tour in 2004. Complete with snowflakes, daisey's and babbling brooks... *sob* long live GBV!!!
sonic youth - goo promo flexi disc - interview
มุมมอง 1.4K15 ปีที่แล้ว
First off sorry about the skips, This was the best "take" out of many mainly because I had to go to battle and literally hold the needle down and guide it along the entire way through all the bumps and stuff. anyways. This is a rare flexi disc promo for sonic youths goo. and its pretty good, so enjoy........
boston spaceships - impossible octopus written by trevor drallop (robert pollard) guided by voices

yes trevor drallop. this is the b-side to the 7" single you satisfy me called impossible octopus which actually is ...you satisfy me ........only backwards.
guided by voices - gem - I am a tree - pre gbv (original) version
มุมมอง 3.1K15 ปีที่แล้ว
I am a tree written and recorded by doug gillard while in the band gem in 1993 but released in 96 , before joining guided by voices. This 12" version is the only format by which it was released. Which one do you like better? I think I may know the answer. I really do like this version though, The very first time I heard this I was a bit surprised at how similar the two versions are. Don't mess ...
Good lord. Titanic
never knew for awhile now that this was Dougs song, this version is interesting, the higher vocals makes it easier to hear too i might have to spin this a few times and try and memorize the words so im not relying on far out echolalia if i see 'em play it live again
Would have been cool if Bob added a new vocal track, Stone Roses style
Haha, I agree
LOVE LOVE LOVE.................................
Save that 12" it is worth some money.. this is one of my Fav songs of all time.
It’s not goin anywhere.
Holy Smokes! Never heard this - never knew this existed -- THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such a lovely solo!!!
The constant note that ignites this song holds infinitely upon the frequencies of life. It will always be there waiting to see you! Waiting to be heard by your sons and daughters and their sons & daughters who will always recognize that note.......forever!!! Thats a comfort of great song writing that few can capture so beautifully!
where did you get this?! lmao this is amazing
Thank you Doug Gillard for writing this song, one of my all-time favorite GBV songs. Saw these guys last week and they killed it live, of course.
... segue into Days of Broken Arrows (alternate version) by Idyll Rays
This has a wonderful warm feel...
One of the great ironies ever in the universe: Robert Pollard did NOT write this song, and a Pollard is a type of tree.
and writes 5 songs on the crapper...and 3 will be good ones! (his quote). Sprouts songs are all top notch.
It’s a pruning technique, but still…
@@AT-ol2yj it’s called Espalier pruning. An ancient technique, still used today here in Oregon. It was created by monks in old monastery orchard fruit trees. Song writing as a horticultural horizon!..my PhD dissertation in music 1992
This is better than the GBV version.
fenderwoods both songs will always be written by one man, Doug Gillard, henceforth its his forever whether sung by him, Robert Pollard or Robert Plant. Its Dougs song and its forever beautifully designed for you and me and everyone. We are blessed!
You sir are a fool
It kinda is more "raw" than GBV's first "produced version". i always liked Sprouts songs, too. youre not the fool...that person probably doesnt know someone other than bob sang on their best albums. usually 2 or 3 songs...this is great. wonder if the poster knows Cobra Verde? i'm guessing no.
love the outro. GBV was never as good as these peak years. Gotta watch out for "Bob worshipers"
absolutely.
Great song
Love the wee breakdown that starts after 2.55
and the outro
Really hope they play this one this Saturday in Hollywood.
The bass is nicely distinguishable on this version.
amazing
It's all there except for Pollard's voice. Really great tune.
i wish they let Toby sing more, he's a good "break" and all his gbv songs were A+
Fabulous !!
I got a turtable like that ~: )
Brilliant, just brilliant Doug! I can still remember the day I picked this up at Record Revolution, then haled it back down to Kent and listening to it before band practice.
hopefully you kept it, its worth more than my car now
In conclusion, girls invented punk rock, not England.
Resurrection!!!!!
oh yes!!1 i only just came across this today and then had to hunt a better audio.... and here you were- thanks mate!
this version has more swing in the tempo, little more jumpin whereas the latter one is more four to the floor rock vibe- i like em both loads! oh yes that sole on this version is much more , organic( know what i mean? ) little more relaxed and jammin- and that puts this one over the line for me- i prefer this one- now!!! to hunt down a good audio of this version for my car!!! thanks for upload
WHOA! This blows my mind.
I like this guitar solo better.
whoa, i had no idea this was originally a gem tune. Thank you so much for uploading!
They used my photo of Bob with his arm around Chris in this video. Cool! Thanks for posting!
