Because I'm an engineer and not useful for much else, I'm gonna explain this to anyone who cares to know. The measured properties of a system can be termed as extensive or intensive. An intensive property is one that is independent of the size of the system. An extensive property IS size-dependent, so it changes as the size of the system changes. So, imagine you have two cups of water. One cup is 30 grams of water at 32°F, the other cup is 50 grams of water at 32°F. If you combine both cups into a bowl, you have 70 grams of water at 32°F. The grams increased because the systems combined, meaning mass (measured in grams) is an extensive property. But the temperature stayed constant as the systems combined in a larger overall system, meaning that temperature is an intensive property. The reason for this is, temperature is a measurement of the average kinetic energy of a system. When you combine two systems, the kinetic energy of both systems redistributes throughout, and still remains the average kinetic energy. More extensive properties are things like volume and amount of substance and even entropy. Intensive properties would be things like stiffness (rubber is stretchy no matter how much you have) or density (assuming you dont change the volumes of two systems after they combine, the density of the final system is the same as the original systems).
