Hi, is it possible to shout into a tuba? I'm working on a piece where I want the performer to do this. If possible, would it be more resonant to shout into the mouthpiece or the bell?

How much tension does it take to break a low E string. Probably more than what the instrument is capable of.

One of my favorite albums, not necesarily tuba focused but definitely has bits, is Miles Davis Birth of the Cool with Tubist Bill Barber. It's considered the first album to treat tuba as a modern jazz instrument, following the melody and taking solos. Also if you can find it the album HiFi Suite by Dick Hyman and Leonard Feather has good tuba parts and a great solo in the song Woofer.

I as the owner of Wessex Tubas have just come across this video. Pleased you like the helicon! For you mentioning the stuffy 4th valve, I have not heard of this before, so think it may be a valve alignment issue, and would suggest you get that checked out. For the unsoldered stays, sorry to hear that. It is not common, I would say less than 1% of horns sold ever have anything come unsoldered - but not good if the one you bought. We are always aiming to improve the quality further and it is really interesting to me to hear customers feedback, so we can incorporate improvements.

I use this horn for my high school band and love it but goodness I have to spin it so much to get the water out

Hello Alan, I am tuba player, playing in our church brass band. I am struggling how to play a chords or how to play a improvisation around the melody by using chords. Would you be able to help me to figure out how to play like these guys?

I'd like to say that you never put a sousaphone not a helicon on the bow on the ground. Only on your foot. It wears a hole in the bottom of the tubing. If you wanna set it down you have to put it down on its side, valves facing up of course. The slides shouldn't hit the ground if on your foot, where it needs to rest

My dream ( probably won't happen lol) is to have a metal band / orchestra with metal/ jazz drummer, metal/ rock bass and guitar. Also have a percussionist/ sound effects guy, horn section, chelo, standing bass , electric violin & electric mandolin
