No, your experience is accurate, and as a black girl myself, I get the weirdest vibes. I’m in a beginner knitters class, but the teacher, a white woman, is running it as an intermediate class for her previous student, who keeps taking her class to get the” gems.” There is no shade, but the class consists of old white women. I have to be overtly friendly and smiley to disarm the insults. I smile and play dumb to get what I’m there for, learning as much as possible. It is sad for black girls like me that we don't have a community of women who can pass down basic homemaking skills. My momma was too busy trying to be young in those streets, but I plan to be that OG for my kids and future grandkids. White women have this, and they are not so quickly willing to share their knowledge as they claim to be for women, but I digress. Also, I noticed the knitting community is not very welcoming to the younger generation of women. They are not interested in passing down such a valuable and enjoyable skill to our youth. Do you think they understand that time isn’t infinite? Please consider where our youth is headed today. They are in dire need of hobbies other than social media! Oh, and let's not forget how the knitting community treats knitting as a particular skill, only designated to those they consider worthy. It's like its own secret society. It's weird. HOWEVER, Black girls do knit and we ain't giving up our sticks❤.

Wait the first chain on the magic circle you said does not count as a chain . It is being counted as one of the 12 double crochet? (So we make 11 and chain =12?)
