I was having an issue, first time it worked fine, I was able to disable the privacy settings a few months back. Today I was trying to enable the privacy settings, it wasn't communicating. I had the cable half way in, I pushed the connector all the way this time and it worked.
IMPORTANT! Problems when trying to communicate with the Walkie through the "RT29 RadioSoft" software are avoided by removing the antenna before connecting it ... Without the antenna the upload/dowload runs smoothly.
I have exactly the same problem with my RT81 and i can't find any solution. I don't have connection when i try to use Read. I have run the software as admin but nothing. My problem is when i buy my RT81 i don't have any problem, i can have easy connection. The same pc, the same usb cable the same windows and now i don't have connection. I can't find solution
I had the same issue and I got the solution: - use the proper cable, all retevis programming cables seem to be the same, but no, you need the one used for RT87 - USB 3.0 is not allowed, if your computer don't have any USB 2.0, use a hub. - execute the software under windows 8 compatibility, as an administrator. ¡Good luck!
Have you tried holding the PTT and the upper key while power on? It needs to be done on my RT81V, otherwise I have the exact same problem. Might be another way because this won't work on older RT81 UHF, but this is not necessarily because of the cable
This is a late comment, but this happens because the cable you are using is using a counterfeit Prolific chipset. A lot of these chip manufacturers have sent out drivers that will not function with counterfeit chips even though the Device Manager will show that everything is functioning okay. I am primarily posting this for anyone who may be running into this error. Took me longer than I care to admit to figure this information out.
@@GarlefSchlegtendal i have the same problem with my rt24. i once used to be able to program mit with the originial software but I assume it was an older version. please try using chirp instead, it worked without a problem.

no. I can't programm the RT647. Same Computer, same Cable works fine with the RT648
