    ..i recall this from the news, as a boy.. even as a boy and when i review these events, today, I consider Colonel Colin Mitchell and the Argylls efforts as representative as typical of the best in the traditions of Great Britain.. What i did not understand at the time was that Mitchell and his boys were to be sold down the river by the parasites who then and still today, apparently run the show.. Mitchell deserved a DSO, at least, for his endeavors - instead he was rewarded with a complete rebuke by a spineless establishment and their masters. God Save the King.

    Sneering Journalists & Commi Politicians like Healy should have been put firmly in their places. Just look at the state of this country now after years of being led by these a-holes.

    There is no such thing as "winning hearts and minds". You win or you don't, and what the enemy thinks about it is of no consequence.

    Lt Col Mitchell and a number of Argylls deserved medals for what they achieved. If anyone should have been forced out of the army it should have been GOC Tower, who’s spineless conduct was despicable.

    I knew Colin Mitchell's radio man. Allister Mcauley. Retired Sgt Major. He is famous for the painting in Crater kneeling behind the land rover. Aden was not the Last Battle of the Empire ! The Battle for Scotland will be.

    A good illustration of multiple Brittish imperial war crimes. The Brittish are no better than Nazis for much of the world... And if held to the same standard of justice would have hung for the murders torture and terrorism.

    Stirling castle looked better then, without the grotesque pink building. Who's idea was that. Plus that modern building, being built on Edinburgh Castle aswell. It's a 11th century castle ffs.

    Colin was charismatic and highly effective. They might also have mentioned that he spent his final few years founding and leading The HALO Trust, the humanitarian mine-clearance agency that is still active around the world today, including in Afghanistan. However, I have to disagree with just about everybody who has commented below. You cannot have a Commanding Officer disobeying orders and dictating British foreign policy or military strategy. Parliament, military discipline, the Geneva Convention are all there for good reasons. And of course nobody, Yemeni, Jock or whoever, deserves to be ruled over by another nationality or tribe.

    • @charlesstanhope1595
      @charlesstanhope1595 ปีที่แล้ว

      You go too far. Colin Mitchel may well have exceed his authority, but to say that he “dictated British foreign policy” is patently absurd. Aden was finished, and Mitchel and the Argyles merely the final act in the supine retreat from Empire.

    Thanks for this video! In loving memory of my grandfather, Andrew Meacham Rankin who as an Argyll and Sutherland highlander, fought the Boers at Magersfontein( in his kilt!) in 1900 , settled in South Africa thereafter, joining the Union Defence Force in 1914, succumbing to wounds received whilst in combat , at Delville Wood on the Somme, in March 1916. His wife and widow, my Grandma, said of him, "he was a fine Scot!". "Ever loved"

    The police turning on and ambushing the British reminds me of stories I've heard from Afghanistan where supposed allied Afghan soldiers or translators or local leaders lead western forces into a trap or just shoot them in the back, what treacherous rotten people, mad mitch knew how to deal with that sort of thing... at least the Afghanistan bullshit is over now, we never should have stayed there so long if we went in at all

    I've said it before, and i'll keep repeating it: brass bands do not belong in Highland regiments. All we want are pipes and drums

    Unfortunately for lefties, war is war and it's a dirty business.... especially in tackling an insurgency.... and you can't apply softie Western liberal clap trap laws to fight it. I was a soldier in my younger days but never got deployed but I've heard enough stories from my Dad, who was a Grenadier Guardsman, from when he served in Cyprus. He spoke of being constantly on edge and not being able to trust the locals or to be able to identify who was an enemy and who wasn't. Insurgencies create this dilemma for troops and we've seen it in Iraq and Afghanistan.🇬🇧🇬🇧✌✌
