Such an incredible session it was. Saw it as a teenager on tv and fell in love with An’s music since today.

This really moved me. Its like suffering put to music. The anguish, tears and deep understanding its for the greatest good.

C'est pas le meilleur des épisodes mais j'aimais bien ces séries Intrigues et Mésaventures, généralement je regardais les séries le vendredi en redifs en seconde partie de soirée soit quand je revenais d'une sortie ou alors l'inverse avant de sortir. Il y avait un ami qui regardait parfois un épisode quand c'était diffusé en matinée. Parfois il y avait des acteurs confirmés qui travaillaient auprès des plus jeunes. J'aimais ce côté simple en studio, c'était simple et assez souvent efficace!

What makes this piece the most beautiful is that it is a love song, a tribute to God's gift of love, but it is most famous for the idea of meeting God in death. Two of the most important moments in our lives, connected in spirit by this brilliant third gift from God and of course Samuel Barber, who was young and in love when he wrote it. Some say it is a testament to the folly of war. In its brilliance, it can mean anything life has in store for a soul, including death.

When all too many words and too many prayers and broken promises and personal and worldly problems make it seem hopeless... .that's when Barber's music speaks for us... This music reminds me of the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ.. Absolutely excruciating pain .. leading to freedom and life.

My students listened to this with their eyes closed. By the end, some were weeping. One said, "That's the saddest thing that every happened." Another said, "Or the most beautiful love, ever." And the third one said, "Or both. Both at once."

Some suffer from the guilt of survival. I have spoken with some from WWII who suffered from it. One vet who had been a prisoner of the Japanese told me he had tried to cherish his life and personify compassion as a tribute to those who scarified all. When I hear this piece, I try to remember this sage advice. Works sometimes. The guilt is alive and well.

Wat zo leuk is aan An Pierlé, is dat ze haar publiek nooit onderschat. Ze maakt geen compromissen en schuwt de lelijkheid niet. Ze blijft, in het firmament van singer songwriters (zelfs internationaal), een aparte plaats innemen. Ik ken geen enkele andere zangeres/zanger die op deze manier met lelijkheid/eerlijkheid/complexiteit omgaat, bovendien op zo een lichtvoetige manier.
