Absolutely great detailed videos I watched all three parts and its awesome 👍👍 not much out there that go into step by step of what to do & not to do. I now know what I need to do and what to check when I swap out the one on my truck. Awesome video man thank you 👍👍 5 ⭐
thanks for the awesome comment bernitaherrera7961.
Good job.
thanks Volfandt!

Great video, you have provided a wonderful service to everyone. Just curious, what manual are you referring to? My factory assembly manual does not break down the sub components such as the column. They just list it as a sub component.
thanks for the comment malicata68, sorry for the long delay, been super busy today cleaning the garage and moving stuff around. the manual is CORVETTE 1966-1982 SHOP MANUAL. hope this helps
Wow and I was going to spend money for someone else to do it hahahaha thanks guy
thanks for the comment blakeethrington2155
Great video and camera view to understand the dissembling. Helpful for my next steering column project.
thanks for the comment vintage_corvette.
Thank for sharing the procedure!
thanks for the comment ggaricacota!
You didn't show how to take off the turn signal lever, which is required to remove the switch. Is there a screw holding it in? If so, how do you get to it?
thanks for the comment jaysenwarner6125. it unscrews like the tilt lever.
thank you, for your video. It will help me with my project.
thank you for the comment Oscar66810.
My grand caravan never performed like this way and it became weak to drive it refused to speed up. So it may need this work done and see how it works. Thank you for showing me this way to do it.
thank you for the comment sultan_xasan8761.
Well done!!
thanks Mike
Those new floor pans look like a ton of work to install! You did a fantastic job!! I would have loved to see a full video series from you installing them.
thanks for the comment Mike. during that time i didn't want to be constrained with capturing video. i was dealing with alot of shipping delays with parts and spouts of health issues also.
We got robbed! I wanted to see the adhesive going on!!!😢
thanks for the comment Mike.
Fantastic video! Your attention to detail and patience is amazing. Most people have no idea how critical it is to space and fit the windshield and trim. I have a 76 Vette under full restoration and your video will help me be successful when I am at the windshield installation phase! Thanks again!
thanks for the comment Mike. pay attention to the wiper height to the underside of the hood. if you set the windshield height to far from the frame at the bottom of the windshield the wipers will hit the hood. ask me how i know.
Thank you for this very well put together instructional video.
thank you for the comment rosiegary.
came here for socket sizes before I climb under...nope
thanks for the comment windage.
Great tutorial. what's that thing called you popped out with the screwdriver? The part i mean, not the tool.
thanks for the comment Davy Crockett. i think you are talking about the filter seal. sometimes they come with the filter.
What we now is a video of how to reassemble the entire thing.
thanks for the comment William Desrosiers.
Had a brand new 2016 chev trax, same problem, moldy mildew smell was so bad it would make you sick!In and out of dealer for a year, vacum carpet 1st time, took it back, shampoo carpet, took it back, detail interior, took it back! After a year of this and not having car, they discovered a missing rubber bushing or gasket in firewall, that camd that way from factory! They agreed to a new 2017,with no credit for the time the 16 was at dealer!
Thank you for the comment Steve Schimmel. just pulled the headliner today, part 2 will be next week. should have an idea of where the leak is coming from by then.
Great job
thanks for the comment Lyle!
That is a hard job. It may look easy but it will definately make you ache the next day.
thanks for the comment 53imperial. i was aching before i started.

Awesome break down but the video was too dark imo. I could not see a single part you worked on that was in the black hole facing the camera. Otherwise known as the top side of steering column . In shadow. Parts falling out where ever they were. Pulling and digging stuff out of that hole…Just so dark. But other than that I just couldn’t see any of the work being performed until you stood it up on the dooor.
thanks for the comment MrCbell57, appreciate your feedback.
Yeah plus the bolts are 15 mm
thanks for the comment Richard

What is the tool called that you knocked seal in and where do you get one
thanks for the comment N Huff. it is called a bearing race and seal driver purchased from harbor freight
This was very in depth and helpful for my situation, thank you so much for making this video

thanks for the comment Michael.
Is your tank an 18 gallon tank or a 19 gallon tank?
thanks for the comment Carlos. 18 gallon rear tank
When I saw the engine bay I was like “wtf is this engine the guys running?” I tried to think of every reason why it looked like that, I even thought “maybe it’s an engine swap” then it hit me this is the first time I’ve ever seen a s197 V6 engine bay 😭
thanks for the comment dangerdolo2242. it was my neighbor's wife's car, so that would probably explain it.
What is the specific seal you used? I have bought the wrong seal TWICE now and I'm losing my shit.
thanks for the comment 361punx, i used RTV
Kudo's on a very informative video. Sad that folks behave so poorly. You have the skill set to make it right.
thank you for the comment 94jimmy5.
Nice job, I think I’ll tackle my own windshield. Thanks for the video it will prove to be very helpful. Waiting for next videos
thanks for the comment workmate222, just waiting on adhesive and spacers.
I am so grateful for the instructions you gave me. I could not have been able to rebuild my 75' column without you! Thank You for taking the time...
thank you for the comment and words of encouragement Ted Jaeggi.
This series of videos is absolutely brilliant and very much needed for my ‘76 AC and other projects. Thanks for the incredible effort you put in to these videos.
thanks for the comment Mark.
I have ‘76 Vette that I need to do this with. I’ll give you a dollar if you come and do mine. I think I have a pending engine rebuild coming and I’m thinking that’s the time to do the AC. Your patience is admirable. I’ll have to have the sledgehammers removed from the garage and hidden from me. Great video!
thanks for the comment Mark. it would be so much easier with the engine out.
Hi, thanks for your video. I have taken my steering column partly apart, but as I'm reassembling and just after I put back the steering lock plate and retainer ring, the telescopic rod is stuck in the bottom position and it won't budge. Maybe it's a stupid question, but how would the lock plate cause the telescopic rod to get stuck? Maybe I'm just not sure how it's supposed to work.
thanks for the comment Matthias. is it stuck below the plate. maybe try pulling the rod through the plate
Thanks for your reply. Yes, I found it out myself. There is a grove along the shaft until a few cm from the top. When it's all the way down, the grove is not aligned with the lock ring and it ends up pushing against the side of the rod instead and locking it. The rod needs to be raised slightly when putting the lock ring on.
good job finding it Mathias.
How is that you don't show what I came here for 😢
thanks for the comment Alex.
Great video sir! I might just feel confident enough to tackle this thing..!
thank you for the comment Charles, you got this!
I cannot for the life of me get the axle to slip out of the splined yoke before the 2nd ujoint - like you do at 13:28 . 1993 f150 4x4, Dana 44 (5.0 4EOD). I moved the boot away from the connection, there's about an inch of play in the axle before it abruptly stops, like it's hitting something, but everything's clear. Did you have to overcome some sort of retaining clip inside the splined slip fit? Yanking at basically 100% (great idea, I know...) has gotten me a few more millimeters, but nothing like it's ready to come out. Thanks for the great video.
thanks for the comment Guccimanggg. i dont recall a clip, the spline was not groved for one when i show it to the camera. such a long time ago. i think th boot was the only thing holding that one in place.
@@elh4x4doinstuff49 thanks heaps for the quick reply. good point about the spline not being grooved on camera - although I see now there is an indentation about 1/2 inch back from the splines. I'll report back if I figure it out.
i think you are referencing the area where the small part of the boot is clamped to the axle. dont give up Guccimanggg you got this!
@@elh4x4doinstuff49 Got it out!! Indeed is a slip fit, just super stuck and grease vacuumed together. Getting it out took all of... - much penetrating oil - torching the outer slip axle - using a come-along on the axle end (and a conveniently located tree) - me hammering the outer slip while buddy cranked the come-along and wiggled the axle (...making sure the truck was VERY sturdy on the stands while I was under it...) Stoked. Thanks again!
Noice...thanks for the update Guccimanggg!
I just came across your channel and I like the instructional stuff like this. I have been going the simple route for some time now, using a harbor freight fluid extractor and measuring what I take out. No filter changes after 7 years and I am overdue. Seeems straight forward and no real curveballs to hit. Thanks for this!
thank you for the comment Jeff. i was doing this for a friend so i didn't know what i was getting into. i was thinking it can't be that hard and worst case scenario if i drop the pan and it looks like a nuclear reactor in there i would put the pan back on and tell him i couldn't do it. but that wasn't the case.
Hahaha! Been there brother. I actually used to work at Daimler Chrysler ITP4 (Indiana Transmission Plant) in Kokomo In. and I can tell you that the standard Chrysler transmission design leaves a lot to be desired. They've been plagued with recalls and short lifespan issues for many year and you have to keep em as clean as possible to maximize life. They'll serve you better in the long haul. But looks like you did a great job with it.Cheers, man!
Great video and walk-through. Do you need to drain it when it's warm, or does it matter to change it cold?
thanks for the comment Shawn. no need to warm it up, transmission fluid is pretty thin unlike oil.
What is the ratio of baking soda: water you used?
thanks for the comment Ikaika Kahoano. i used four table spoons of baking soda to a gallon of water.
@@elh4x4doinstuff49 Got it. Thank you.
you are welcome
I was just scrolling through TH-cam and heard your voice! Glad to see, bro!
thanks Jared! Have a blessed day in the LORD.
Pretty straight forward. However, I would have replaced the strut mount and insulator while you had everything apart. Those are wear items as well and only cost a few extra dollars.
thanks for the comment Chris.
I really like this video, it is very informative. I know you are working on a 76 steering column in this video. I have a 75 with tile/telescope wheel. On the steering wheel hub, is there a clip under the retaining nut on a 75? I have been fighting all day trying to get that hub off there with no success. I don't see a clip visually but that hub did not budge even a thousands of an inch. Any help would be useful.
thanks for the comment Greg. my vette is a 76 but the column is supposed to be a 75. from what i see in the manual is not under the nut, under the cover and over the lock plate. nothing holding the hub but a tapered fit.
Is there perhaps an early and late version of the column?
shop manual says to pull it with a puller. you might have to put some tension on the puller and shock it with a hammer.
I finally got it off. I had to use an impact wrench that I really didn't want to do in fear of messing something else up. Thanks for your help.
AWESOME! glad it worked out for you.
I'm getting ready to take the bed off of my truck and change the rear fuel tank. Wish me luck lol. I can't wait to get both of them working with the selective switch. I just hope it's going to be as easy as replacing the tank, fuel pump.
thanks for the comment Carlos. you got this man!
excellent video. thanks for your effort.
thank you for the comment Gregg.
