These 4 famous poetry books are disappointing: Rupi Kaur, Orion Carloto, Courtney Peppernell
I got these believing that the high ratings online were justified. But no.
I get that some people are a fan of these types of texts. Sadly, I'm not one of them.
Enjoy watching!

    Have you ever heard of a Monostich? It's literally a single line idea or poem. Doesn't have any format. Poetry is also no longer held captive by a specific set of rules for formatting. That's why there are different types of poetry.

  • @Myelbaby

    The person who said she doesn’t understand why someone would break up lines like that does not understand poetry. Even the great Maya Angelou wrote like that and I have a copy of her book written in 1990. To each their own. I’m in the process of writing my poetry book, so your video sheds light on the things that I need to be weary of before publishing it. Thank you for the video. 🫶🏼

    • @thesoundsofearth4454
      @thesoundsofearth4454 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The point I believe is that line break, as any poetic device, has to have meaning and intention that serves the poem. The critique for modern poets is that line break is used to make a quote look like a poem instead of being used to elevate a good poem to be even better. Hope that makes sense! Maya Angelou used line breaks intentionally to make her poetry impactful. Poets like kaur and Hanna seem to use line break without the level of intention of a poet like Angelou

      @everynewdayisablessing8509 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bad poem will not get better JUST by splitting it into many lines. A prose sentence is still a prose sentence, even with line breaks. She was not bashing splitting poems into separate lines, this can be done, but needs to be a well written poetic poem to begin with.

I love that you really went into the history of The Troubles. And your comparison between the world of children and the world of parents and how they are very similar. All of Gabbie’s poems have a twinge of self-pity or self-mockery or bitterness, and although it can work if used correctly it takes a shit ton of practice and it requires being able to judge yourself correctly. Bo’s poems, on the other hand, tend to be not only relatable, but they’re also well-constructed (he has more practice) and extend to include the viewpoint of whoever might be reading rather than just their reaction. In addition, the fact that he can put the feelings into words show that he genuinely knows what they feel like. Gabbie’s poetry is self-indulgent, whereas Bo’s poetry is self-exposing.
