Adventure Beyond 60
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 16 ต.ค. 2021
The need for adventure doesn't stop when you turn 60 and the beauty found on our planet is timeless. Join us as we hope to show you both of these concepts while overlanding in our Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro with our Patriot Campers X3 trailer. While we enjoy many places that have paved roads leading to them, there are many beautiful places that can only be reached on legal roads that require high-clearance 4 wheel drive vehicles. Join us on our adventures while we seek out the best that nature has to offer in the lesser traveled parts of the great outdoors!
Our feature videos from Season 1 Episode 6 onwards are presented in 4K HDR (High Dynamic Range) so those of you with devices that display HDR can enjoy the views in greater color and dynamic range.

Big Announcement! New Build!!
We are beginning the final built out of our next overloading vehicle with our partners at @RhinoAdventureGear ! Check the vehicle out and see the vehicle before all the mods (or at least before most of the mods).

How long does it REALLY take to close up a Patriot Campers X3 (gen 1)????

Several viewers have requested to see how long it actually takes to close our Patriot X3 camper trailer. We thought that the shores of the Arctic Ocean in Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories, Canada couldn't be a better place for the demonstration! The video shows the Painted Rocks Petroglyphs a remarkable site. Afterwards, we decide not to head back home and instead spend just one more night out camping in the desert. We head out on a BLM that we know nothing...

WOW, WOW, and WOW!!! 😮 I can't wait to see how this project shapes up! I'll be watching, Ted! ✌️
Thanks Joe! Good tomhear from you! 🤙
VERY COOL TED!
Thanks Mike!
we are glad you are back. we were wondering what happened to you. it was YOUR fault we went to kofa, and collected full grown mountain lion scat outside our tent. rock on. randy and jill, grumpy old people overlanding.
Been doing some work on the home front including turning an old guest room into a video editing studio. So, after the holiday I'll be back working on post-production 😃. Glad you made it to Kofa and had a little adventure in the process! I'm sure the mountain lion sensed you were grumpy old overland people and made the wise decision to move on 🤣. Thanks for sharing!
Let’s go, I’m over 60! 😂
Soon as it's done John I'll let you know! I'm way way ready!
@ looking forward to see it
Looks great! Agree 200 is the last of the real US LC's
This looks like something ai need in my life 😝- so what’s the gas mileage ???
Well it WAS about 12 with the 35's and the front bumper. After this build is done probably 10 1/2 to 11 and 10 with the Patriot X3. Off-road I'm hoping no worse than 9. Not too different than our 4Runner but it runs on premium.
he TOLD you not to ask. overland rigs, generally speaking, are about 11 mpg. 35" or larger tires, and a lift and suspension generally trash milage and reduce it to a winnebago with a 460 ford gas engine.
🤣 and like I said we don't really get into overloading for the mileage. Because of that we will also be adding a 25 gal Long Range America gas tank just as we did the the 4Runner. Probably the most useful mod on the 4Runner beyond the basic suspension/tire modifications. Well, I guess they are all useful at one point or another 😛
What do you think about the Lexus GXs as compared to the 4Runner and LC?
@@adventurebeyond60 i've got LRA tanks on the JL jeep. jeeps get such good milage. second only to their reliability. second week in april, jill and i have a week down in the bottom of the maze in canyonlands. there is room on the permit for a second vehicle, if you've never been there. holler if interested, and we can discuss it over the phone, and see if it'd be a good fit.
nice camper... if you want to do a really really great trip then drive across Mexico to Mexico City.... we did that and it was the best trip I have ever done....
Yep hope to head south of the border one of these days! Thanks for the suggestion!
Do y'all live down by Corpus? I live southwest of there and take my 4runner and Uev490 (South African Camper) out to Big Bend. Nothing that serious with towing Black Gap though!
Nope we live in Southern California but really had a great time in Corpus and Southwest Texas!
Is that a propane fire pit
Yep - no firewood in the area. It works great.
Great video! Thank you so much for showing the map and the detail with the direction you went.
Thanks very much and glad you find the maps useful!
WOW!!! Last time the wife and I were on PINS they didnt have those signs.
Hey Ted great video I want to go there! How do you do the drone shots while moving. From inside vehicle or pilot dropped off. I want to try that with our rig . We did three weeks into Canada this summer was awesome too! Sorry we didn’t hookup at the eclipse. Next time
Hey Mark! Somehow this comment just surfaced for me - sorry about the late reply. Many of the shot that look like drone shots are done with the Insta360 camera that Debbie holds out the window on a 10' pole. When I'm actually flying the drone while the vehicle is moving, then Debbie is driving and I'm flying the drone from the passenger seat.
Chainsaw sculptures are amazing. That emerald lake reminds me of Diablo Lake in northern Washington.
I'll have to check out that lake sometime!
Man, you got some stunning shots!!
Loved the Valdez, Whittier Tunnel and Prince William Sound shots. That pizza made me hungry!
Thanks! That's one of my favorite segments I've put together since I started the channel. I thought the music worked really well with it too. And the pizza? Can't wait to get back to Anchorage to have some more!
9:24 That train trestle is amazing! 90 ft tall x 800 ft long, and constructed in 8 days…that is mind blowing!
Right!?!?
Sounds like that Patriot Trailer is holding up well. Beautiful country. Love the old history.
Hey Ted, I finally have some time to catch up on your videos…I had to break my leg in 2 places go do it! Just laid up now for a while. I met you outside the Hampton Inn, in Goodyear, AZ about a year and a half ago. Great videos. Beautiful scenery. I especially love the old mining towns. Take care and safe travels. Gary
Gary, I know this is a late reply, but sorry to hear about that leg! I totally remember running into you that morning at the Hampton Inn. Glad you enjoyed the videos and they help you pass the time while you were laid up. I'll have more on the way in a few weeks. Hope that leg is better and you are out and about!
@ Thanks, brother! Still a little slow, but we made it out to the White Tank Mountains west of Phoenix to do some “hardcore glamping” in the travel trailer. Looking forward to the upcoming videos.
@@HighlanderMikeGolf Hey better than no camping at all! Working on the next video at this very moment. Prob got another week of work to do....
Great job! We are looking forward to returning to Alaska next year. But first , the southwest this winter. Hope we can get together and have you show us some beautiful and interesting areas off the beaten path.
Can’t wait! Looking forward to it Dave!
Looks like a fun drive, perhaps you can take us out there when we visit this coming winter.
@@thewanderingpinto5979 of course!
Loose retaining nut on one of the burner valves on my Coleman propane stove caused the same yellow flame problem. Tightened it up. Flame good now. Thanks for the tip!
Excellent glad you could get it fixed up! 👍🏼
I'm just curious to know what you're using for cameras to shoot your video what resolution are you shooting in and uploading it
We use a variety of cameras. All video is shot in 4K but frame rate and color depth depend on the platform. Primary cameras are the Sony A7SIII andl A7RV with a variety of lenses usually at 60fps. Next is the Insta360 X3 shot in 5.8K (recently upgraded to the X4 at 8K). However post production reduces the resolution to roughly 4K. We have a couple of GoPros at 4K and 3 drones Mavic 3 Cine, Mavic mini pro 3, and a Mavic Air 2. With most cameras we shoot in log mode and all video goes through manual color grading in post production with the final video being rendered in 4K HDR (HLG format). The HLG format seems to work best with TH-cam. With the Insta360 and GoPro their log format isn’t the greatest so we shoot in HDR and I still tweak the color grading. It’s labor intensive hence we are way behind in getting releasing content. But the quality of the content is very important to us. Thanks for asking!
@@adventurebeyond60 That explains a lot. I have been slowing migrating to 4K but its brutal on my computer hardware, I guess I need to bite the built and spend about 5K on a system that will handle it. I appreciate your detail and explanation
@@BackcountryNomad Yes it takes a lot of horsepower to do video post production. And don't forget to budget for backing up the data!
@@adventurebeyond60A lot of work going into the videos…they look great!!
Another great video I enjoyed keep them coming
Thanks very much. We will be back to doing post production work in a couple of weeks when we return from our current adventure.
Hello from Wisconsin! We are heading to Big Bend National Park for a Bronco event in December. These are the two planned trail rides. No, we wont be towing the trailer on the trail. Staying at Chisos Basin Campground as a base camp. After that we will be heading to spend January and February in Arizona and southern California.
Hey Dave! Sorry I took so long to get back to you. Big Bend is a beautiful place and there are some great views from Chisos Basin. Great news you will in the AZ and SoCal in January and February. Hope we can connect when you head out!!! Stay in touch!
@@adventurebeyond60 Will do! Also looking for easy off road trails in southern California. Perhaps we could camp and you could show us a few. What is your email address?
That setup is another level, enjoy!! Cheers from Baja!
Always! Thanks Marco!
Great video! We pulled our tear Drop to Big bend last year and enjoyed many of the same dirt roads !
That is awesome! Its a beautiful place!
Fantastic video! I'd be considering taking my little truck down to Big bend and I recently purchased an off-road trailer. This is a fantastic sneak peek into what I should expect if I decide to make the Trek!
Glad it was helpful! Definitely do-able with an offroad trailer. Hope you give it a go!
@@adventurebeyond60 How were you able to reserve that site with a trailer? I've been wanting to camp at some of those more remote sites, but they clearly say "no trailer" on the website for each one, Glen Springs 1 in particular. Do they check or allow it if you're capable?
If you want to do some real off-roading, leave the park lol
Thanks I’ll keep that in mind….
Just found your channel. Love your setup. I’m driving a 21 ORP. Gonna checkout your walk around video. I’m familiar with this beach, since I went to high school in Corpus back in the 80’s. Great job on the video.
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed the video! Yep, it's a fun beach and a great way to get away from it all.
Awesome pics! Stunning!
Thanks so much!
It was a pleasure meeting you and Deb today. Love your channel. Will be soaking in those videos for sure. CHEERS. OH YEA the Adventure Beyond 60 sticker is on the jeep 👍🍻
Awesome thanks so much Rob! It was a real pleasure meeting you and Karen today as well. Looking forward to checking g out your channel as well! Hope the sunset photography worked well at White Sands today! Cheers! 🍻
Any other Texas destinations planned ? I hope you enjoyed Corpus Christi and the beaches .
Had a great time in Corpus Christi and out on the beaches. No overloading trips planned for Texas planned for this year...so far.
Truly beautiful videography!
Thank you very much!
Yeah the Memorial Day is a bit early for touristy stuff unfortunately (depending on how much snow we get that year), but like you said you get to beat the crowds :) June is probably the best time as it's not as rainy and snow is gone from lower elevations.
Yep based on what we found in July June was less traveled by others. But last year everyone said "wow this is a rainy June". But at least it was all light rain for the most part. Thanks for watching!
11:59 I believe you meant to say "... town of Cantwell", not Coldwell.
Yes, I realized that after I uploaded the video. But thanks for pointing that out at least someone is listening 😉
Cool, I ended up finding the "secret" spot on Google Earth, will have to check it out this summer, thanks!
Great. Like I said - just watch out for the wind at night 💨
Another excellent video.
Thanks Chris!
Another great video! Thanks A Million!
My pleasure - thanks again for watching!
I dropped by after seeing your summit activation with Chris. It's good seeing other old guys getting out and getting it done. ;) I'm driving a 2013 4Runner and drag a A-frame camper behind it. It's been in some pretty gnarly places but is not nearly as capable as your Patriot. I love boondocking, playing radio, and hiking with the dog. 73 de AG7TX
Glad you enjoyed both Chris's and our videos David. You keep getting it done yourself and look forward to seeing you on the air. 73 de W6TED
Bummer you didn't make it to the end of the trail, but almost! We did Denali Highway last year also, mid July. It's my new favorite road I. Alaska. We camped at a roadside pullout. We stopped for the night at about 4:30 in the afternoon. Only about 5 other vehicles passed by us till we left the next morning Very quiet camping. on the
Good to hear from you Dave. Yeah, the Denali Hwy is just an amazing place. We went back later in the trip to spend one more night out there. Really quiet. Eventually that portion of the trip will be on a released video.
Looking forward to it. I really need to get finishing some videos, if I am ever home to work on them lol! We are currently in the 50th state.
Yeah it's tough finishing content when traveling a lot - but could be worse problems ;-) Have fun in beautiful Hawaii!

Thanks Jim. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Be safe, folks are looking forward to your great videos. Thanks for sharing.

Btw anyone going to the slots soon, be careful on that steep drop off, its become extremely rutted out with lots of soft sand, i have an 03 4runner sport edition 4wd with bilstein 5100s and upper control arms and rear toytec superflex springs and we lifted a wheel and teter totored going down. It was probably the scariest moment ive had going offroad 😂 we survived but my heart was PUMPING. Make sure to use 4low to control your decent.
Thanks for the update on The Slot! Always good to get recent news especially after weather.
Nice. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Excellent! How did you do the red line on the map? Excellent!
I apologize I thought I responded to your question. The animated red lines on the maps are done using Apple Motion. Once you get the line drawn you can keyframe the beginning and the end and when played back it animates the drawing of the line.
@@adventurebeyond60 super many thanks. Excellent vid!
