They definitely look the same to me in my opinion. I honestly don't see a reason for me to upgrade from my 2021 to the 2024. Thank you for sharing this excellent comparison video.
Totally. The only worthy upgrade would be to the colorsoft. But I would stay away from that until the screen issues with the colorsoft are fully resolved.
Hi! Just saw your post on Reddit, thanks for sharing! Trying to do the same-ish sort of content. I love captioned vlogs!
Thanks so much! Sending my support your way! I love me a mundane vlog. 🤍🤍
They look cute in their jackets ❤
It takes forever to catch Draco (the light one) and put his clothes on though. 😂
I got a Pearl pink one on Facebook marketplace today!
Ahhh!! I’m jealous! I thought about getting the pink one off eBay but it was twice as much as the black one I got on OfferUp. Fingers crossed they do more fun colors like this in the future. How are you liking the nook so far?
@ I love it! I have a kindle oasis as well as a kobo libra so just trying out different options.
@ nice! Hope you like it!
Does the text look the same on both ?
The 2024 is slightly sharper but only if you look really close.
I carry my kindle basic with me all the time.
Hope you’re feeling better soon!
I am! Thank you! I’ve been carrying my nook with me for about a week now. I’m beginning to fall in love with it. I just wish it were white! Or the limited edition pink one!
Same
Really like your comparison videos. Take care of yourself & Hope you feel better really soon 🥰
Thanks so much!! 🐱🐱
Your video is so good as the kindle colorsoft, it sofukcs
I want to get one by end or the beginning of next month but everything in metallic jade. I did want the metallic raspberry, but that jade was calling my name.
Yes! I had a really hard time choosing between the two!
@ I had a hard time choosing what color I wanted too. However, Jade is my favorite shade in the green family. I can’t wait to get it soon.
Nice choice! I was telling others how awesome it would if Amazon ever released a rose gold/blush or even cream kindle. 😍😍
@@mere24601 I would love to have any of those colors in a future Kindle especially in rose gold or blush.
I'm seeing complaints on reddit about the yellow tint on the PW as well but when I check the internet and youtube I don't see anyone talking about it. As a matter of fact I can't find anything about the PW having these so called "yellow stains" Does anyone have any issues with their PW?
I think the new pw screen issues are not as common as the colorsoft. The pw screen issues I’ve seen have to do with the warmth of the entire screen. There’s more comparison photos on Reddit of people comparing multiple pw 12th gen screens at the same brightness and warmth. I’ve read these issues are both software and hardware (I guess these new screens are glued on rather than screwed on).

Your little dogs have a pretty big shadow! lol, so cute! Yes, I think you're right about waiting. It's too bad there seem to be so many issues.
I try to get their shadows as much as possible whenever I walk them in the early morning. It’s so funny watching their shadows bounce around. 🤣
It appears the colorsoft has been delayed about a week when purchasing. Here in California, the colorsoft will now be delivered next week instead of its usual 1-2 day shipping. www.reddit.com/r/kindle/s/hX09BxF0VG
I’m gonna be waiting until the colorsoft gets fixed before ordering one. My oasis is doing fine just dying really fast. Went down 39% from 2 and a half hours of reading.
Nice dog too
Yup. A software issue should’ve been fixed by now or by this week. This issue has been talked about for about a week now.
My Paperwhite 2024 has no issues. Not too yellow. The clearest and easiest to read I have ever seen. Nice improvement over the 11th gen.
I was looking forward to your further comments on both the Colorsoft and the newest Paperwhite SE but I totally understand your reasoning. No sense having that much money tied up in items you aren’t completely happy with. As I mentioned in one of my comments on one of your other videos, this is not the first time Amazon has run into the blotchy or uneven lighting on their Kindles. Amazon solved the problem by increasing the number of LEDs and changing their placement to even out the display lighting. I am surprised that you had a lighting problem with your Paperwhite SE. The Paperwhite models have always had even lighting. (I saw that with the caveat that I have owned nearly every Kindle model ever made so I’m not exactly sure when Amazon increased the number of LEDs and changed their placement. I think it began with the Paperwhite models.) I bought the newest Paperwhite SE (12 ed.) last week and I am very happy with it, even though it lacks the page turn buttons, form factor, metal case, and autorotation found in the now discontinued Oasis model. The batteries in my Oasis are dying and can’t be replaced so I pulled the trigger on the SE. I did have to exchange it for a second one because the first one had a vertical and a horizontal line of dead pixels. It was a minor issue but it bugged me when the lines intersected a line of type. The replacement is perfect so I just happened to get a defective one the first time around.
@@BrandonRodriguez-hm2lnI have two of the Oasis models, one from 2018 and one from 2011.) As you have experienced, the batteries are slowly dying and they can’t be replaced because of the metal case and the super strong adhesive attaching the screen to the case. Since the new Paperwhite Signature Edition has some features lacking in the Oasis and since I nearly always want the most recent Kindle, I went ahead and ordered one. It’s faster, has better contrast, longer battery life, USB C charging, wireless charging, and I think a couple of other things that I don’t recall right now. I will slowly download my library to the Paperwhite SE before the Oasis models finally die.
I like this comparison. The Amazon site criticisms of the yellow tinge and gainy text aren't such a big deal in focii on the ability to read, to highlight, and just enough color to more than appreciate the difference without color. Plus, the Colorsoft is pretty fast. The Colorsoft is back on my wish list!
i just got the new paper white and hated the green tint and lack of brightness (it apparently had). didn't know the color soft fixed that im prob gna get that instead
I'm not a big fan of the green tint. I'm trying to get used to it. They insist it's better for your eyes, but I prefer a cooler tone.
Really great comparison, can you compare it to boox go 7 ?
I don’t have a boox go 7. Unfortunately.
The one reason I probably won’t buy it is, I enjoy reading with zero front light (like during daytime etc) and apparently the contrast/clarity difference is most pronounced when there is no light being used. Then battery life, also something I enjoy on regular paper white.. And most of my books don’t have images anyway.. Would like to see a comparison without front light being turned on. Edit: Despite my concern, I am still constantly tempted by it.. So I guess it just depends on the severity of the “no-light” black-and-white quality difference..
I’d say wait until Black Friday and see if the colorsoft is lower in price at all or is bundled with a case or Amazon gift card. Right now, this product is not worth the full price.
You won't be able to use the color with no front light. Even outdoors, the screen is dark.
@@VidMashUp yeah that’s a deal breaker. I enjoy the paper feel with no front light, as well as the extended battery life when not using light. Maybe the next generation or the one after that will fix this..
Colorsoft looks yellow at the bottom?
Yup. Unfortunately. On Reddit, some are saying it’s a software bug being fixed but idk. A 300$ product should be flawless. I’m leaning towards returning it and keeping my pwse
@@mere24601yikes. I wouldn’t rely on it being a software bug. I would’ve returned it too. What a disappointment.
Thank you for addressing my question about the effect of extreme zooming in on the text in a conversation bubble on the Colorsoftt. It looked to me that the text on the Paperwhite Signature and the Colorsoft were comparable in sharpness at up to a medium zoom. I saw a slight raggedness to the edges of the text letters at extreme zoom but you found the sharpness to actually be sharper on the Colorsoft. I will defer to your judgement since you are the person actually seeing the type with your own eyes. The complaints about the increased yellowing at the bottom of the screen remind me of the complaints years ago about uneven lighting on one of the Kindle models. I’ve had nearly all of their models since they first came out and I don’t remember now which model had the problem. Amazon solved that problem by putting more LED’s around the screen with the Paperwhite, Voyage, Oasis, and Scribe. Looks like they may have to rethink their number and placement of the LED’s on the Colorsoft model since a lot of people are complaining about a yellow line or region toward the bottom of the screen at extreme brightness. (I think that Amazon support will tell you that the increased yellowness is really not an issue because it only happens at maximum brightness and most people won’t be looking at the screen using maximum brightness. Let me know if I’m wrong.) BTW, you referred to the Paperwhite as the “Papersoft” at a few places in your video. Of course, everyone will know which model you were talking about but it gave me a smile when you did it.
I have both. The colorsoft is brighter and more white to me?
I don't think the colour soft is worth it. Especially given the yellow mark or line, or whatever it is. I think it's better to stay with the ordinary paperwhite. People say it's for the covers, and comics, etc, but you only see the cover once if you are starting a book. Then it's mostly ordinary text after that. I think the colour soft is overpriced.
100%. It’s a perwhite signature edition plus color. So it’s essentially 100$ more for the color tech.
@@ursulaoelofse4731 I had the Oasis and was excited for color. I just set my color soft up and it’s fantastic. I think the color and speed (over gen 11 PW SE) is great. I’d keep it, but the yellow band won’t work for me. I had the Kobo Libra Colour, but aside from the UI it needs revamping. I may wait for the Color soft version 2 with the kinks worked out, but will definitely be getting it or a replacement for this yellow band one.
@@daniboi79I have two of the Oasis models (one with the warm setting and one without). Although I don’t read graphic novels, manga, etc., I was also looking forward to the Colorsoft because it was supposed to be quicker, have better contrast, etc. I also would love to see the covers of my 2,000+ books in color. The Colorsoft is definitely an advance but the complaints about the paleness of the color and the unevenness of the screen lighting have convinced me to wait until a second or third generation. In the meantime, I’ll stick to the Paperwhite Signature (12 edition) for the increased speed and contrast andI will run my Oasis models into the ground since the batteries cannot be replaced and because of the page turn buttons and the autorotation.
@daniboi79 I've seen a lot of reviews with people talking about the yellow band or mark. I don't think that's good. Maybe they all come like that, I don't know, but I think it's better to stay with the ordinary paperwhite for now. Until they can sort it out, or give better ones.
Great video. Thank you so much 💓
Great comparison. Eager to see battery life. Also do you notice any yellowing at the base of the screen like so many others?
Yup. It’s not so much a line but more like a small blotch of faded yellow at the center of the bottom of the screen. I can see it most at full brightness.
@@mere24601 do you see the yellowing on both the kindles?
@ A lot of people are returning them for replacement. I agree for an almost $300 e reader, you shouldn’t have issues with internet or screen discoloration. That’s more than some big TV’s.
Agree completely. I’m already contacting Amazon support for a replacement.
@@mere24601 I also own one. Sadly it appears all Colorsofts have this issue, and even the latest Paperwhites. It just depends on a person's sensitivity, plus how the device's lighting is set, PLUS one's room lighting, as to how much it will be noticible. They are planning a software fix, which will hopefully minimize the problem.
Thanks for the review. The PW seems so much more crisp. The Colorsoft is grainy despite having B&W text because of the color filter.
Text on both are the same ppi & crispness. What makes you think it is less crisp/hazy is because the colorsoft has a noisy/grainy background. Plays mind games with your optical perception.
@@Battlem0nkI guess its the color filter. And also it is 150ppi on color pages so that’s there.
@@adityadarekar5497 yup that grain you see on white background is the color filter layer.
Double tap to go into a panel and page turn to go to the next panel. You don’t have to pinch and zoom.
Thanks for the tip!
You really need to find a way to hold the camera still.
I quickly filmed this before family came over. Didn’t have time to set up my tripod. 🤷🏽♀️
Thanks for this. I think a lot of us were waiting for this type of review. Nice to see the Colorsoft doesn’t really sacrifice much quality with text compared to the new Paperwhite.
I can definitely see a difference in clarity but it’s more to do with colorsoft having a different grain/screen. Both look very good. I just got first gen scribe which I got simply for reading but coloursoft looking brilliant I want one to pop in small handbag for work.
Yeah the biggest downside to the scribes is their lack of portability. They wouldn’t fit in any of my bags. But the new white/jade one looks so pretty. Fingers crossed the next scribe is smaller and has buttons!
Have you tried the vivid color mode on the colorsoft?
Not yet!
Are you sure that’s the 2024 edition of the paper white? It looks slightly shorter. I think that’s the previous gen. paper white.
looks like its the 2024. you can tell its the 2024 edition because the corners of the screen are rounded
100% the 2024 paperwhite signature edition. The colorsoft is elevated a bit from the case it’s in.
Thanks. Great comparison.
Thank you for the review
Thank you for this post. Exactly what I was looking for 🙏
I like the grain of the color e ink displays
It is interesting that the Paperwhite Signature is more yellow than the Colorsoft at maximum brightness with no warmth but it is less yellow than the Colorsoft when both are set to maximum brightness and maximum warmth. I’m guessing that is because the Colorsoft is able to produce a more pronounced yellow at maximum brightness and maximum warmth because of its color technology. I am a fan of the warmth setting at night but I like the whiteness of the Colorsoft screen when it is displaying pure text. Other than the slight grain in the white background, the sharpness of the letters themselves seems to be about the same as the Paperwhite Signature. I don’t read comics, Manga, etc. but seeing the book titles of my 2,000+ books in color would be really nice. You zoomed in deep on a Captain Marvel text bubble on the Colorsoft but not so deep on the same bubble on the Paperwhite Signature. How does the text on the Colorsoft look when it is displaying color compared to the Paperwhite Signature? Resolution for text is supposed to drop from 300ppi to 150ppi when the Colorsoft is displaying in color mode. Regardless, your comparison is exactly what I was hoping someone would do and I am now one of your new subscribers.
Thanks so much! I had family coming over so i had to make this comparison quick. I will go more in depth maybe tomorrow or this weekend and definitely look into these differences!
Can you show a comparison of the dark modes of possible. This would be the deciding factor for me!
Will do tomorrow!
@mere24601 thank you so much!
Seen a comparison on another vid and it looks more washed out on colorsoft the black compared to paperwhite that last years model. They didnt compare to this years paperwhite that supposed to be very good as well. This video comparison very good I thought. 😊
@@lisadefries6718 ok! I'll try to find this. Thank you
Turn on Vivid and the colors will pop a LOT more.
Do you notice any ghosting in the ppw caused by shades of text remaining after page turns?
None so far.
The colorsoft looks like a real book. Fun.
Yeah not what i was expecting in terms of color. Thought it would be a lot more washed out.
you have color TvT
ive the new one in green color. It costs 109 euros. Its my first kindle, what do you think of the choice ? Personaly i love it !
So far I’m happy with it! I am going to check out the colorsoft just to see what the big deal is but right now I’m happy with the paperwhite.
@@mere24601 for me i think the colosoft is the same like having a tablet, so ill never gonna buy it. And it costs a lot lol
Thanks for bringing the kindle so close to the camera, awesome )
That screen is amazing
I've got the PPW11, but I wouldn't replace it with this one. I'm waiting for the Softcolor version
I’d wait too. I’m gonna pick one up and try it out. Coming from a pw11, the upgrades from the pw12 are minimal but noticeable but not that upgradeable.
