We birthed ragTech (yes, camel case) to chat about the real side of tech. Picture it as the convos you'd overhear in a tech office, minus the overly intense jargon. Join us for chaotic laughter as we confess how half the time, we can't figure out what we're doing at work. We're the ones arguing about light mode versus dark mode, diving into random topics, and just keeping it real-because life in tech is more than lines of code.
Balancing Empathy and Boundaries | How to Be Supportive Without Burning Out | Ep. 24
In this episode, our ragTech hosts explore the challenges of managing feelings of imposter syndrome while emphasizing the need for personal boundaries to maintain mental well-being.
They share personal stories from their experiences in the tech industry, highlighting the importance of having a supportive person to confide in without feeling judged. The conversation addresses the emotional labor involved in supporting colleagues and the risks of burnout, especially for those who are highly empathetic.
Strategies such as identifying reciprocal support systems, determining when to listen versus offer solutions, and compartmentalizing emotions are discussed as ways to protect one's mental space.
They also stress the value of self-awareness, utilizing tools like MBTI for understanding personality dynamics, and reflect on the significance of documenting daily feelings to navigate imposter syndrome effectively.

What achievements xD Sadge
No achievements? Sadge indeed
This episode was reassuring watching. For me, I once felt that I wasn't suited for my current role and the imposter syndrome feeling came in. But at some point, I had to come out of the feeling, and be grateful as to where I am, and looked towards getting better on the job.
Thanks for sharing, Favourite! Love the way that being grateful and focusing on improving yourself is how you overcome it! 💖👏
The more you know, the more you realise what you don't know Very true.

Thanks for watching Thulie 💖💖
Dude buys MacBooks for 8k $. Glad he stayed down to earth.
Thank you, I really enjoyed this episode and learning about Martin's insights! I'm a Junior in college right now studying electrical engineering and computer science, and am actually taking a class called Blockchains and Cryptocurrencies right now. It is by far my favorite class that I've taken so far, and I'm finding Bitcoin and Ethereum very interesting. As someone who saw the potential of Bitcoin very early on, I'm curious to learn your perspectives on Bitcoin's scalability issues, specifically how it can only process about 7 transactions per second, whereas Visa can process about 65000 transactions per second. Martin mentioned how the value of Bitcoin increases exponentially as more and more people adopt it, but it seems like Bitcoin is bottlenecked with this truth. Do you think this slow processing rate will cap the value Bitcoin has? While Ethereum's scalability is a little better, there are at least solutions like Layer 2s, using zk proofs and/or optimistic rollups, that can drastically improve scalability and allow Ethereum to better compete with the likes of Visa. Are you just as strong of a believer in Ethereum as Bitcoin? It seems to me that Ethereum has a lot more potential for wide-scale adoption, and therefore more potential value. I also loved what you said about one country printing their fiat currency to buy a ton of Bitcoin, which will drive the value of Bitcoin higher and eventually invalidate fiat currencies over time.
This is so real
can I get your mail to reach out to you
Thanks for the post. Good to see these conversations happening in Singapore! Well done!
Thank you so much Harish! We're excited to bring more conversations forward and also showcase the stories of tech in Singapore!
Thanks Andrew!
😃
Great!🥳😟 Please keep sharing the knowledge🙏
Thank you! Your support means a lot! :)
Thank you, Saloni and Victoria, for this episode! And thank you Andrew for the insightful information! I agree with all the points you mentioned and I really liked how Victoria summed it up at the end of the episode: being a 10X Engineer is not only about the hard skills, but about the soft skills as well. Adding to that, I'd say that being a 10X Engineer is about finding the right balance between your hard skills and your soft skills and use that balance to keep growing and help the people around you grow as well. Have a great rest of the week, everyone! Cheers from Mexico!
Thank you for the lovely comment and additional insights! 💖Cheers!
Really insightful
Thank you! We appreciate it!
Thank you for talking about this, I’m definitely going through this right now
Thank you! We hope this episode gives you insights! You're not alone!
Great information guys, keep it going. I know people who are looking for videos like these have less time so 30 mins feels a lot, maybe cut it short to 15 mins? or the best thing is to have time stamps that would be really helpful. (not saying that 30 mins is a lot, i am sure all the information is worth the time) Thank you!

Amazing!! We are so glad that the algorithm recommended it to you, and hope an understanding of tech will also help you in the field of law! We definitely need more lawyers who understand technology better in today's society :)

Thank you for your kind words! We will definitely be around! 😉If you have any topics to suggest or feedback on how we can improve, please feel free to let us know!
This episode is brilliant! Saloni is like the super skilled and supportive developer every new dev would like to meet when getting into a tech company. Thank you so much for sharing a bit of yourself and your knowledge with us! By the way, I also prefer the term Software Developer over Software Engineer. 😁
Haha! Thanks for enjoying the episode! 😁 More power to Software Developers! Yayy!
As a Staff Software Engineer myself, I couldn’t agree more with this definition. 😊
Very insightful episode.
Thanks Favourite! We're glad you enjoyed it!

Amazing episode guys, looking forward to learning more from you all 🤩
Aww thank you Favourite!! We love hearing from you and your feedbacks have always helped us in getting better each episode!
Having worked for a startup, I'll say it's a good way to start, cause it'll make you learn a lot of things.
Lol, Victoria you need to get more plants 😂😂
LOL yes, Vic says her current plant is now down to 2 leaves 😂
The way Victoria illustrates the dark mode is very funny 😂, I like dark mode too, but Victoria takes it to the next level 😅
As she said, she is extreme 'unhinged' dark mode person! Hahaha! 😂😂
I'm a bit late, I know. I'm just catching up with ragTech's episodes. 😄 Thank you for another great episode, girls! Thanks Saloni and Natasha for asking the right questions and, of course, thanks Victoria for letting us know a bit more about yourself! I'm kind of like Natasha, trying to start blogging, but struggling to be consistent. However, after hearing your journey into blogging, Victoria, as well as how you maintain your discipline to write, I feel re-motivated to go spill some words! Thanks again, you three. Keep rocking it!
Thanks Ricardo for tuning it! We really appreciate you for sharing your thoughts! 😊
Thank you for your comments! Makes us really happy to see our viewers share their opinions too! Career coaching / coaching is definitely something we missed in our conversation! It would definitely take some skills and practice of being a mentor to be able to lead mentees to pave their way to find their own answers! 😅
Good conversation, agree with your points, why stick with 1 mentor when you can learn from everyone.
What are some of your sources of mentorship?😊
Great episode! I do want to add on that mentorship is definitely more than sharing and answering questions. Mentors can offer coaching as well, and that plays a huge role in a successful mentor-mentee relationship. Instead of answering a mentee's question directly, we can use their questions questions as an opportunity to coach them to find their own answers, using our own experience as a reference (but not an answer).
What a great insight @VictorNeo! Yes, coaching is definitely another aspect of mentorship not emphasized enough :)
Hello ragTech, you all gave wonderful explanations of the Agile and Scrum terminologies. I remember in college when we were first taught this topic, I thought it was one of those things you'd just learn to pass the exam, but when I did my internship, there I saw the agile principle being practised. So it's really nice, learning about the concepts once more from senior engineers like yourselves😉
Thank you Favourite! We really appreciate your comments and insights! We're so glad our episodes have helped you~
Natasha and all of you on the team really shared great insight on this episode, I'm learning to ask more stupid questions even with my new job, and I see it pays. Thanks for sharing this episode ragTech team 🤩 so many gems to learn from you all
Very interesting and informative, specially for people venturing into tech.
Thank you! We're glad you find it informative!
I noticed KPI acronym wasn't mentioned, for those who don't know it stands for Key Performance Indicator, it is a way to keep track of your objective on a job
Thanks Favourite for mentioning this! Yes, you are absolutely correct! :)
It's always good learning new things about you, Victoria. I loved so many sections from this episode, how the questions were asked and the responses. Thanks, guys, Happy Weekend and Merry Christmas ragTech 🎉🎉
Merry Christmas Favourite! We are so glad you enjoyed our episode! Please continue giving us your support and feedback! Have a wonderful holiday~ ❤❤
This is so lively well done ladies. Super proud of you 💜💜💜💜
Thank you Thulie, dear :) we're so glad u enjoyed this ep!
This is so much fun! I'm a Techy Friendly Neighborhood myself, so I can definitely relate to the "fix my printer" situation. 😂 It seems like you're going to cover some great topics on this podcast, so, keep it coming! Congratulations and good vibes all the way from Mexico!
Thank you for tuning in all the way from Mexico!! And yes, let's join hands as techy friendly neighbours who don't really know how to fix printers or computers 😂 Let us know what topics we glossed over in this episode you'd love to hear more about!
That moment when all of you realised that you didn't do self-introductions in the beginning 🤣 It's true that it's super easy for folks to be burnt out just trying to learn new tech or try and go for big tech companies. Great tips on how they can help adjust their mindset!
Haha yes we completely forgot and had to supplement the intro with an additional recording 😂but hey, we're definitely learning as we go and adopting the iterative development approach to this podcast too - you can expect future episodes to have proper introductions (and more microphones haha)
This was really fun to watch; in the future, we all will be better chat GPT prompt engineers 😂. There are lots of sections to laugh along, and Victoria you should start wearing a hoodie to be a true programmer 😂
We have kindly noted your request for Victoria to wear a hoodie in future episodes... Stay tuned 😂
