We Live We Travel
We are a couple who are nomadic at heart. We like minimalism at home, and travel whenever we can. We do a travel blog as well (see link).
A Day Walking around the Old Town of Cusco, Peru
We arrived in Cusco by bus and spent the next four days in the city. It had a number of museums and cultural sites to keep us interested, and we also did three days trips to places nearby.
The highlight of our time in Cusco was watching a recreation of an ancient Incan ceremony performed on the site of the former Incan capital, Qorikancha. It involved dozens of dancers and actors who spoke in the original Quechua language.

Christmas in Samana, Dominican Republic (Viva V Samana by Wyndham)
We took a trip to the Viva V Samana by Wyndham in the Dominican Republic for a week over the Christmas holidays. It is an adults-only resort located in Samana Province near the town of Las Terrenas. Unfortunately it rained for much of the first four days but the weather was much better for the last two. But even on the rainy days the water temperature was fine. We didn't do any excursions due t...
The Route of the Sun from Puno to Cusco
We took a day-long bus from Puno to Cusco during our trip through Southern Peru using a bus company called Inka Express. Overall we enjoyed the experience as it made some stops along the way to make the trip more interesting. More info on the tour in our blog here: humphreystravel.com/2024/12/28/doing-the-route-of-the-sun-from-puno-to-cusco/
Lake Titicaca and the Floating Uros Islands of Peru
Instead of going from Arequipa to Cusco, we went out of the way and took a bus to Puno on Lake Titicaca near the border with Bolivia. There we stayed a couple nights and did a day trip to the Uros floating islands. We saw the remnants of the traditional way of life of the Uru people, and felt it was a worthwhile experience overall. More info on the trip can be found on our blog: humphreystravel...
A Day Trip outside Arequipa on the Ruta del Sillar
Although Colca Canyon tours are more popular close to Arequipa, we opted for a shorter day trip on the Ruta del Sillar. It ended up being longer than expected, but we had a good time overall and would definitely recommend it. The tour was 50 soles each (US$13). More photos and details can be found on our blog: humphreystravel.com/2024/11/30/a-day-trip-around-the-ruta-del-sillar-near-arequipa/
The Beautiful Ciudad Blanca (White City) of Arequipa, Peru
From Nazca we took an overnight bus to Arequipa, gaining altitude up to 2,340 m (7,700 ft). Called "The White City" due to the extensive use of a rock called sillar in building construction, it had a very attractive old town. We enjoyed the three nights we spent there, finding it a great place to walk around along with the added bonus of day trips nearby. More Arequipa photos are in our travel ...
Ancient geoglyphs in the Peruvian desert
On the way from Paracas to Arequipa, Peru, we stopped at the Nazca lines along the way. The geoglyphs on the desert floor are amazing works of ancient art made by the Peruvian people. Although there are various interpretations of the designs, it is fairly certain that aliens didn't create or use them. After a brief visit we continued on to Nazca where we stayed overnight. Clip is from the TV se...
The Desert Oasis of Huacachina, Peru
Our bus trip through southern Peru took us from Paracas to Huacachina, a small oasis town situation just outside the larger city of Ica. More details and photos of Huacachina can be found on our travel blog: humphreystravel.com/2024/10/19/the-great-sand-dunes-of-huacachina/
The Beauty of the Ballestas Islands and Paracas National Reserve
From Lima we took a bus south to Paracas, where we stayed for three nights. There we experienced a tour of the Ballestas islands (Peru's smaller version of the Galapagos Islands) as well as Paracas National Reserve. It was a beautiful location and tour of the islands only cost US19.00 each. More details on these destinations can be found on our travel blog: humphreystravel.com/2024/09/28/paraca...
Ancient ruins in the heart of Lima
During our visit to Lima in July, we went to Huaca Pucllana, a pre-Incan ceremonial site located in the Miraflores district. The site was built originally by the Lima culture between 200 to 700 AD. More photos and details about this archaeological site can be found on our travel blog: humphreystravel.com/2024/09/11/huaca-pucllana-pre-incan-ruins-in-the-heart-of-lima/
1st impressions of Lima

Our first few days in Peru included landing in Lima early in the morning and exploring the neighbourhoods around us. We explored the Miraflores district and checked out the coastal walk near Larcomar. A Rainy Day in Tavira
Our day trip to Tavira in January, 2024 didn't go as planned. Because of construction we took the long way to get there and barely had coffee and lunch before the skies opened up. So it ended up being a shorter visit than anticipated, but for the time we were there it was worthwhile.
Walking the Southeast Coast of Portugal
During our stay in the Algarve, we drove to the town of Vila Real de Santo António near the border with Spain. We walked the corner of Portugal in Mata National Park before walking along the Guadiana River that separates the two countries.
Silves Castle and Old Town
Do you want to spend "one fine day" in a historical place? We recommend visiting Silves castle and old town where we spent a few hours. We also recommend coffee and homemade scones at Halfway coffee bar located next to the old town gate. They were some of the best and very affordable.

I am really enjoying these, Kim and Brian. They are so interesting!!
Really enjoyed this video, Kim and Brian. It looked like a wonderful getaway for couples. //Tom
Thanks Tom, we found it a good place and the quiet was one of the best features!
At that time I just arrived in Arequipa > near Santa Catalina😊❤
Another really interesting video, Brian and Kim. The scenery was excellent. I got the sense without knowing for sure that early life at Raqchi was very peaceful and happy. Idyllic even.
@TeeEmmCee Yes, it was a very quiet and peaceful place. The clear skies and cool but not cold temperatures definitely helped!
Another very interesting video, Brian and Kim.
So interesting as always. The shots you got at Quebrada de Culebrillas were absolutely super. What an amazing place! (When you say that name it sounds like you have practiced your Spanish - maybe you have learned the language?)
Haha, sadly I only know a little Spanish, though I am trying to learn more. It really was a beautiful place, and not crowded at all when we were there.
These are always so interesting, Kim and Brian. Thanks for sharing these videos. //Tom
Really interesting, Brian. I don't remember hearing the name of these lines before, though I have seen pictures of them. An overnight bus?! Only when you are young.
Yes, and the bus wasn't too comfortable! But we put up with it and arrived in Arequipa at 6:30 in the morning. We sat in the lobby of our hotel before going out to walk because our room wasn't ready for another 7 hours.
Definitely a very interesting part of the world, Brian. What time year was it? It looks cool out on the ocean.
We were there the second week of July , which is winter down in Peru. Temperatures were in the 20s on land and a few degrees cooler with the wind on the water. But it was tolerable in spite of the way we look bundled up in our toques and jackets!
@@welivewetravel Yup. I noticed - Toronto Maple Leafs! A die hard fan perhaps.
@@TeeEmmCee Haha, yes, I still am. 🙂
Thanks for the suggestions! We tried to take an Uber to the old town from MIraflores but had no success as the drivers kept cancelling the rides.
So interesting. I got a kick out of Super Mario. He was good!
He really was a great guide, and answered everyone's questions with ease.
That was really interesting, Brian and Kim. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Tom!
What a great walk. Love the scenery. //Tom
Thanks Tom, it was one of our favourite spots on the trip.
how long did it take to walk from lagos to the lighthouse?
We did a lot of stops along the way but if you just follow the boardwalk you can get there in less than 30 minutes.
@@welivewetravel nice. going this week
@@fuspz Have a good time. We loved the area and you can spend one hour or many more depending on how much of the Lagos coastline you want to see.
