Thank you for an excellent and well-presented review. I love musicals and "Gypsy" is my all-time favorite musical so i have been anxious to hear an honest review like yours. Audra is such a fabulous singer. I was very interested to hear your take on her performance because i had heard an audio recording of "Rose's Turn" and noticed she used her head voice intermittently and while that is understandable i was curious if that made any impact on the overall performance of that killer song. Id love to see the show with Audra so i hope they will make a DVD. Like you i had seen the movie with Rosalind Russell (whom i adore and yes, i know she is not a singer) and the TV movie with my favorite Bette Midler which i think is great. I was fortunate to see "Gypsy" on Broadway in 2003 - what a great experience! Thank you again and now i need to go hit that "subscribe" button. 😊

Agree. I LOVED this production. Also had never seen this staged before. I did watch the movie before I went. Really hope Nicole wins the Tony! This is a brilliant performance. Really hope Sunset wins Best Revival as well. David Thaxton was definitely another standout. I was underwhelmed by Gypsy.

I hope not. This is Nicole's time to shine. Audra's voice is wrong for the role. Sorry. Rose's Turn is shrill and, frankly, ugly sounding.

I saw Gypsy in early previews and was underwhelmed with the production. It was fine, but didn’t wow me. I was bored in Act 1 which dragged. I didn’t care for the operatic interpretation of some songs. I don’t think this role is right for Audra’s voice. Is she an icon? Yes, but she is NOT right for every role. Would not see again, especially at those prices. A revival should do something different and it was traditional.

Maybe I'm wrong, but this audience reaction to the show seems luke warm at best :/ I hope this was just not caught well on film and they killed it on stage

Adam was a theatre kid, did lots of shows. Then he toured in Europe with "Hair", toured in the US as a Fyero understudy in "Wicked", and had a leading role in "The Ten Commandments" starring Val Kilmer. There's video of 2 of these. All before Idol. He is releasing a single of "I Don't Care Much" tonight!

I won’t be able to fly to New York to see this play ( breaks my heart being a huge Adam Lambert fan), but I have read several critiques from other social medias and they all are fantastic! Adam getting rave reviews for his performance and vocals as the Emcee, so you know I’m very happy for him! Also thank you for describing in details the make up of the theater, been trying to imagine the place in my minds eye. 😊. FYI; Adam does his own makeup! Yes what you see on his face, Adam did that! Since the age of 10 he’s been involved with plays and later as a young adult was in Germany’s cast of “Hair”, before doing American Idol was already in Los Angeles tour company of “Wicked”, ( he was understudy forFiyero able to fulfill that part once), so he had to quit “Wicked” to get on “American Idol”! Adam is so talented and versatile in many ways. Love him to bits! ❤. One more thing tomorrow the 6th Adam will release as a single/video “I Don’t Care Much” from Cabaret! So excited for that. I pray there will be a Cast Album of Cabaret with Adam in the near future. 🤞
