In August 2023 I spent a wonderful week hiking and painting in the seldom-visited Schell Creek range in Nevada. I climbed North Schell Peak, enjoyed solitude, and painted plein air. The range has an abundance of wildflowers, butterflies, and beautiful mountain streams.

I think I've seen that very rock, maybe 2009, when i bailed from mummy nose.
It’s a memorable rock! I wish there wasn’t so much private land over that way. I’d hike there more often.
@@StudioHoodoo I think the LDS camp closes in August.
From what I could see from above, they were doing work down in there. Had lots of pipes stacked up. It looked like it got damaged in the floods.
I'm hoping get back up there in a bit, with less weight than last time! I may try to find work-arounds for some of the "interesting" places on my last trip.
I was encouraged that I may actually be able to get up Mummy with my overnight stuff this way. I went up the back of the canyon. I think that way is a little easier than the Foxee Ridge. I topped out right around 11,000 feet, so it’s not much further up Mummy. I carried an extra gallon of water yesterday too. The plan is to camp on a day with zero chance of rain, so no tent needed & my bag & pad weigh a lot less than the gallon of water… 🤞 There is one more ridge I want to try back there too.

If it doesn't get any hotter than this, this summer in vegas, we should be just fine.
It was 43 when we got up there last weekend. Yesterday, it was 63. The heat is coming fast & early…
I should reference this video when people ask me why it takes so long to get to rainbow via oak creek.
Ha! There was always a way, but it was very time consuming to find it!

These places keep me sane, living in the city. I'm lucky to have them so close. I hope you can find a way to get out soon!
