Not gonna lie for A game made by Nintendo that is rated rated E-10 this is kinda unexpected, not your average player would go to this spot at this time though, i have just played the game a lot and was curious, also it doesn't help that Teba is one of my favorite characters in this game XP

I was genuinely so shocked when I saw this. I was just like, “oh, I’ll go talk to Teba. I’ve never done that” and then I get hit with a Nintendo swear word.

Honestly, I wish there were a few more "damns" and "hells" in this game, maybe a few "bastards" too
for those who didn't know, yes, "damn" is allowed in e10+ games (source: i played undertale, it's e10+ and undyne says "damn" and sans says "hell" twice)

Yeah oddly enough Nintendo doesn't have issues with dark themes, but does with mild swearing. Like look at all the dark stuff in Majora's Mask, the Shadow Temple in OoT, or Link literally stabbing Ganondorf in the head at the end of Wind Waker, but one "damn" is over the edge.
In the Japanese version, he said, "Chikushō." Nintendo Treehouse translated it the right way.
What does that translate to may I ask?
@@Catyoshi47 It's a religious exclamation that doesn't have a literal English equivalent. In Buddism, the worst thing you can wish on somebody is for them to get reincarnated as an animal. That is called Chùshēngdào (畜生道) in Mandarin Chinese, which roughly means Livestock Way of Birth. Professional Translators universally use dammit in subtitles. That's what happened here.

Thanks for the insights! That is really interesting. And yes, it is wild to actually see a four-letter word in a Zelda game, but to be honest, Teba's character does seem the most likely to use one. Glad to see the faithful translation at any rate. :)

To me I'm more surprised it's in Zelda. It's not necessarily bad but Teba gets the reward for being first. So to clarify "damn" is allowed in E-10 games. I'm not surprised Nintendo allowed this because they don't shy from swearing. In fact Nintendo published Bayonetta 2 and is publishing Bayonetta 3. I see how some can view this as a children's game, but I don't think this game was made with children being the main focus. Rather I think they just wanted to make a fun experience. It just happened to be seen a E-10 by ESRB.

They say "whoop ass" in Ratchet and Clank Futre:Tools of Destruction which is also E-10. Certain words can be said only so many times before they bump up the rating.

This is all so ridiculous. Quote Revali in Age of Calamity: "Ridiculous...all of you". "Damn" is not even a swear word since it's used in the context of larger parts of sentences like "eternal damnation" and "he is damned to madness forever". Even the word CONDEMNED is related to this word.

Damn means “I want you to be sent to Hell,” which I don’t think is a very nice thing to say. Hell is only bad when it is not used in the context of place.

Damn means “I want you to be sent to Hell” while dammit means “Send it to Hell.”
It’s basically the absolute lightest swear word that counts as a swear word.
