Correction: Denmark and Austria aligned to the British Empire (even though the British are not at war) because at the time the French Republic was not aligned as a playable Nation with the USA. Had the French been played by a player, or part of an Alliance that is being played, then they would have stayed French because they were both in the French sphere of influence.
Like the commanders and the randomness concepts. I will buy it when it comes out.
With 3 turns per calendar year and a 1914 start date and less than a 20 round game this seems like 1914 alternate edition rather than a game that encompasses both the period of 1914, the interwar period ANd WW2 timeline . Which is what you advertised in your earlier video. With that said it sounds interesting especially with the flexible alliances. I am curious why USA can no longer be influenced though when Germany attacks Russia. Oh… you even mention it in this video at the end that you’re “transitioning from 1914 to 35 which doesn’t seem supported by the turn mechanics you have adopted. I suggest full year turns rather than 3 turns per calendar year.
Even with 20 turns at a turn is a year that puts you playing from 1914 to 1934 which isn’t even to WW2 yet so it’s hard to claim that narrative and technology
Let me clarify. 1. It does not start in 1914--the start year is sometime in the early 20th century (hence "19XX"). 2. It is not a game of WW1+interwar+WW2 timeline. It is a game of 5 empires that start with WW1 tech and no pre-determined alliances. It progresses for 25 turns (with prequel and variable ending) which is 8+ years of combat and development which has the probability of including WW2 technology and will definitely have a different set of alliances. It is not the entire 1914-1945 timeline, it is its own alt history clash of empires. 3. In order to balance the game for 2 players, neither player can diplomatically influence more than 1 other Major Power. The USA can be attacked and join the opposite Alliance if a player determines this is necessary for their objectives. That is the alternate narrative I am claiming. I hope the Global War community will find it fun and a great alternative when they own both Global War games and want to try something different.
Thanks Bob! Looking forward to seeing how this project progresses. The sandbox element is a concept that the community has been asking for quite some time so glad to see it being considered.
Interesting
I like the replacing of units as time and tech evolve. This does part of what I always wanted to do, but would take a while, that is to say, start out at WW1 (or 2) and just keep playing until 1 side defeats the other, then keep going. So whatever side won (like say Germany, Italy, and Japan) they turn on each other and keep going and going until only 1 country was left. So take this concept and string it along through GW65 (upgrading tech just like WW1 to WW2), then through GW85, then though GW25 (assuming it want on that long) and then see who would dominate the earth.
Very interesting concept. Looking forward to seeing it develop.
Sounds great! Does it start in 1914 then? Do the turns represent longer periods of time? Maybe 1 year turns?
The start year is unknown, early 1900's. Turns are the same as G14, 4 months.
I fundamentally love the concept of this. Will it have a new board or use ww1 or ww2? Also, will UK/Germany or any other power be able to develop nuke?
Trying to use as much as we currently own with the two games, but looks like several charts will be needed, along with battle boards.
I wish we were neighbors...lol Always enjoy seeing your videos!
You should join us for testing!
@bobhatchermountaineer9029 I would like that! My current schedule works better for playtesting than playing at present.
Wow amazing map!!!
I'd like to see something regarding central to central-east Russia. Its a lot of space that doesn't get much attention. Maybe some sort of resource discovery that is in that area that is discovered before its historical time.
👍
Personally (while having not had the chance of playing the 1936 version of Global War yet) I think that all these expansions sound really cool (units, different ressources to play around with, having certain nations be their own thing [such as the Turks], etc). While the game is already quite in depth, it is nice to be able to add some extra complexity/options for those who may want things to be even more complex/varied. I likewise cannot wait to see what expansions may start to come out for Global War 1914 aside from the Prequel and Russian Revolution/CIvil War (the version of the game I decided to start with first, and which I have been greatly enjoying from the games I have played so far). Perhaps one to cover the Russo-Japanese War (with a minimap sort of like the one for the Mexican Civil War in the Prequel) could be interesting as an idea (among others).
Can't wait for Innovations to be available!
The innovations expansion looks very interesting, looking forward to seeing more on that one!
👍
The Innovations expansion looks very interesting!
Looking forward to seeing how your game goes. Oil wars would be a good expansion to overall address. In its current form, it’s very clunky and difficult to implement, but has always been a community wishlist item. Thanks for sharing Bob!
Oil wars was updated for v4.2. Overall you just expend and produce oil and the US lend lease oil was reduced in quantity to what can be produced. General Hand Grenade noted that oil was not really a constraint, so we added several items that require oil usage and that tends to drive decisions. Also, if you add it with the unpublished Quartermaster expansion, the use of supplies to conduct those movements really drive the player nation to make tough choices on where to fight and what can go. e.g. Italian Navy units tend to sit in port because oil is so limited to them--just like real life in WW2. You have to save for when you really want to use it!
I forgot to mention, Doug has some nice 3D printed marine engineers that could be you CB (sea bees) unit. Another category of expansions that I did not mention are those that change the WW2 narrative (East vs West, Random Events, and German Operations). I get the impression these are not as popular. We have yet to publish Western Operations, Soviet Operations, and Japanese Operations which were always meant to go with German Ops and help balance that game play. I am happy to email you a draft of Random Events or those other Operations if interested.
I’m curious specifically what you took out of the rules besides some examples .
It was a pleasure to meet you this summer. I still enjoy playing your Operation Unthinkable game.
Great video bob, and thank you for your service bud
Thanks for the video Bob. You are a gentleman. I picked it up, can’t wait to get my hands on it. Thanks also for letting us all know a bit about your military history.
You are welcome Bob, thank you for your 30 years of service in our military.
Very interesting 🤔👍
I just purchased Global 46 from HBG. I saw that you are the designer, I look forward to more videos or information about this version as it gets released. Is there an official rules book release coming in the future?
Yes, it will be posted where you buy the map from HBG.
Great intro video for the GW46 game concept. Look forward to seeing and hearing more about it.
TH-cam randomly suggested this video to me... what is this game called?
Global War 1914 from Historical Board Gaming. We are playing a campaign called Operation Red Baron.
@@bobhatchermountaineer9029Thank you!
What does the "ORB" acronym stand for?
Operation Red Baron
Well, this feels like a very short main game
What game?
Global War 1914 from Historical Board Gaming
I am excited to see CP alligned Japan
Did the ottomans get also a cruiser?
No. They did not have a pre-dread to trade in.
@@bobhatchermountaineer9029 👍
Corrected random events: West: Germany, Britain, and France pay 1 IPP for each Fighter and advance to Stage 2 Fighter Evolution on the Technology Chart. Place any purchased Fighters in the Nation’s Reserves. East: The U.S.A. loses all their current IPPs this Turn only.
You forgot to roll your second tech roll.
Yep, sucks...
I have a few comments about this game. 1) Why are the Pre-dreadnoughts so overpowering compared to the dreadnaughts? HMS Dreadnaught hac a broadside of 8 12 " guns compared to the typical 4 gun broadside of a Pre-dreadnaught. At the Battle of Tsushima, the RN observers as well as IJN personnel had troubles differentiating between the splashes of the 12 inch guns and that of the secondary gun splashes. Also, even the at the Battle of Jutland, the RN and KM engaged each other at almost 10 miles with large caliber guns. Not the ranges at Tsushima. I would surmise that if a dreadnaught fired a ranging salvo that perhaps 50% of 8 guns would straddle the target. Also at that range, 50% of a Pre-dreadnaught ranging salvo or 4 guns would straddle the target. Assuming that both ships had found the correct range 4 12 inch shells from the dreadnaught would strike the Pre-dreadnaught whilst 2 12 inch shells from a pre-dreadnaught would strike the dreadnaught. Thus the would have an AF of 8 and the pre-dreadnaught would have an AF of 4. The DF would be 8 and perhaps 6 respectively. 2) Why aren't battlecruisers included in your game? There were more battlecruisers deployed mainly by the RN and KM in WW1 than WW2. 3) Seeing .that Great Britain and Japan had a naval alliance which had been renewed in 1912 and again in 1917. There was no reason for Japan to break that alliance in 1914 as they had more issues against Germany than the UK. They had also resolved any issues they had with Russia as a result of victory in the Russo-Japanese War earlier. The IJN had provided naval escorts to British units from the Pacific. That being said, I can appreciate the hard work that you and General Hand Grenade devoted to designing the game. I would suggest that some sort of random event(s) in the Prequel be used to allow the British and/or the Japanese cancel the alliance. Perhaps Germany would give the Japanese their possessions in Asia. Perhaps some benefit with the Americans would entice the British to cancel the alliance. (ie a military alliance with the USA for Pacific Security and closer ties when WW1 breaks out)
Good input. For 1 & 2: One of the challenges with the game is to recognize that each individual ship in the game represents a fleet or set of capabilities. Having the pre-dreadnaught more powerful than a cruise, but obviously slower was how we landed on the values we did. We also did not want to have too many types so the cruiser was settled on as the representative ship. 3: there is a potential for Japan to join the CP and there are some random events that address the tension between Japan and the Triple Entente. However, we are designing more fr V2 and will take your idea into account.
Thank you for your prompt reply.
Since I gather you're the creator of the game, I'd like to offer a comment having been watching this whole series: I am somewhat surprised/disappointed by the almost complete lack of aircraft in this game. Perhaps the major powers could be made to buy at least one aircraft each year or something so that they might see some use. It would make the tech progression more believable as how can aircraft technology advance if no one is using aircraft?
Good input. We recognize the lack of aircraft in the game and are working on random events to introduce more as well as lowering the costs of the aircraft.
Really enjoyed this Bob
I seriously need that Diplomacy chart :)
I wouldn’t worry about unbalancing 36 because those playing this transition expansion will in effect be playing 36 as a continuation of 1914. In that light it is only fitting that the first game SHOULD influence the second to a degree proportionate to the victory in 1914. A decisive victory should give the victor significant advantages at the start of the 36 campaign. That’s my two cents anyway.
Looks very interesting!
Is the transition part of the base game for Global War 1914 or will it be an expansion? Any idea when Global War 1914 will be released for sale?
Probably an expansion. Doug is working the release date, I am unsure.
@@bobhatchermountaineer9029 Okay, thanks for the reply. In other play test videos I saw diplomacy, the Mexican Revolution and the Balkan Wars during the 1912 setup. Are those still in the game as part of the base game?
I would like to see it as an expansion so I could immediately buy it to add to 36 while saving up for core 14 stuff :)
Really interested in this game. Are there going to be expansions that will majorly change wwII depending on wwi
Very cool 😎
Very interesting....seems whomever is the biggest winner from WWI will have the biggest target on their back starting WWII.
I failed to mention, the British spent all 3 of their victory points to start 1 step for 3 different technologies.
Do we have an idea when these will be coming out?
I think the effort right now is on actual games (G2025, Midway, G14). Perhaps this summer?
Glad to see the other nations get in on this style of expansion. Can’t wait to get them on the board.
Looks like a good series of linked expansions. Looking forward to seeing these published.
