Great video. The kit looks to be of good quality. You might just have to measure the compression in the cylinders and maybe try to find a thicker spacer to bring the compression down a bit. Im impatient to get my kit but funds are tight at the moment. Keep us posted
@@ismaelquintero3403 One of the RZR forums stated that Cometic will make a thicker gasket. I thought about that route as well. Definitely would have been less expensive.
I’ve been trying to find info on this kit for a while. Have you decided on what you’re going to do? The 12.1:1 compression has been my biggest fear. Nice video 👍
@@ismaelquintero3403 Yeah, there is so little information. After doing all the research for this video I decided to go for it. I bought the full rebuild kit from Kalama. I was still worried about the 12:1 compression so I bought some 11:1 Wiseco pistons. Even with 11:1 I worry a little about detonation so I got a 180 degree thermostat to let it run cooler. I'm still waiting on everything to arrive but I'll make sure to post some video's as soon as I can. I've also got a power commander 5 that came with the RZR but was never installed so I'll be installing that and adding a Pressure Guard oil pressure regulator and a oil pressure gauge so there will be some great stuff coming up. Time to get it all done will my biggest hurdle 😉
@@guntherferguson2369what was the overall cost with the pressure guard and wiseco pistons? I might keep get the kit and just run an octane booster. I have a lot of touch up to do on my rzr. Thanks for the quick reply.
@@ismaelquintero3403 The kit was just the beginning. I found a kit from Vito's performance with a cam for $1,299.00. Great price! But then the extra pistons were $343 directly from Wiseco. Knock off Pressure Guard from Amazon $30. Thermostat is an actual Polaris brand part from Amazon for $40. New oil pump and water pump impeller black friday sale from Rez 6 $200. I don't have links right now but I'll include them in my next video. If you decide to use the 12:1 pistons you should definitely get the pressure guard, 180 thermostat and the upgraded impeller. And get your radiator fans to kick on a little earlier. Those things will work together to protect your engine. You might not even need octane booster with those upgrades if your riding in elevation above 4,000 feet. I'm still not sure I really needed to change the pistons. I just felt a lot more comfortable bring my compression down a point.
@@guntherferguson2369 i was looking at the vitos kit also i noticed it was the same kit for less. Thank you for all your help I’m going to be ordering my parts next month. Can’t wait for the next video 👍
I finally got all my parts together. Holding the Wiseco 11:1 and the Kalama pistons side by side I have no idea how Kalama gets 12:1 compression. They are nearly identical other than Kalama is about .5 mm taller but Kalama has a deeper dish in the piston. If anything I would think the Kalama would be lower compression than the Wiseco. . . ? Hopefully I'll get to edit and post the video tomorrow.

It’s all fixed now!
I actually made this video 2 years ago. It’s crazy to look back. In case you’re wondering I’ve done a bunch of work to this motorcycle but the damn thing still isn’t running. It needs a fuel pump and I need more than 10 free minutes a day to do it.
Anyone have an engine cover they want to donate? I bought one that was already modded with it removed..
Those where resonaters at the back
Mufflers. It's all mufflers 🙃
I run no thermostat in the summer on my 2011 overland with the hemi. Runs nice and cool and it improved the throttle response slightly.
I know this video is old but I’m looking at a 2012 JGC overland V8 Hemi. Would you recommend or anything I should look out for? It has 126K on it.
I've really liked mine but it's definitely not perfect. Common problems are broken exhaust manifold bolts, water pump, ticking lifters, and the TIPM (fusebox.) I've personally had all of those problems except the lifters. For me they are easy fixes so not too big of a deal. With an Overland you have air suspension as well. I'm not sure if that has any problems or not since I don't have it on mine. As long as you're at least a moderate mechanic and have some decent tools, especially a good code scanner, I would say go for it. It's one of the easiest engine bays you'll ever work in. But if you have to take it to a mechanic for everything it might not be a good idea. I know a lot of the electrical gremlins were solved with the 2014 and newer models. Plus you get an 8 speed transmission with 2014 up. But no matter what year you get make sure you change your oil religiously.
@@guntherferguson2369 man The 2012 is more my price range. I did look at newer models though jusy based off the air suspension
@@snoozinatthetop I still have the Jeep in this video. It has 101,627 miles on it and I haven't had anything major go wrong. Just the little things I mentioned but they were cheap to fix because I did it myself. I still love it after all these years. I don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon but if I did it would be with a newer one with an 8 speed. That transmission is awesome. My girlfriend has a 2014 Durango which is mechanically the same except without a TIPM and it has an 8 speed. She has 132,00 miles on hers also with nothing major. It needed a water pump at 60K and that's about it. The radiator and the transmission cooler leak a little but that's because the lady who had it before her liked to run into things. Neither the Jeep or Durango have ever left us stranded. But with used cars you never know. Just take a lot of time looking at the Jeep. Chrisfix has some great videos on TH-cam about checking out used cars before you buy them. I would definitely recommend his channel to anyone who works on the own cars.
@@guntherferguson2369 you have been great. I really appreciate you.
@@snoozinatthetop Oh, I also had to fix the radio. On the Mygig radio's (the one with the 5" screen) it's relatively common for the hard drive to fail. The Overland will have that radio for sure. It's way easy to fix if it fails but costs about $120 for a quality disk drive. I made a video on how to do it but have yet to edit and post. I work two jobs and my woman takes the rest of my time so I never get to it. .
Loved the video and totally agree on the 'nobody cares about your car like you do' mentality - I've taken my car for mechanical and audio things, and wish I did it myself every time. You can learn anything on TH-cam nowadays anyway. Thanks for the video!
Really helped my 2011 sound better bro appreciate the vid
I'm glad it helped! I'm still driving around without the rear mufflers 4 years later lol. I put them back on for awhile but it was just too quiet. I took them off to repaint them and just can't bring myself to put them back on. It's funny because when I made this video I was disappointed that removing the rear mufflers didn't make enough difference but once I put them back on and off again I realized just how much that subtle difference matters. One day I'll get a real exhaust on there.
You still doing videos haven't seen any new stuff. How's the jeep doing ..
I really need to video more projects. I've done some stuff but I'm always against the clock so no video gets made. The Jeep is still running great. I'm about to hit 100,000 miles. I had to replace the original battery last night. 8 years ain't bad for a battery lol. Thanks for asking!
You will suck water into your breather
No you won't. The inlet is up high and so is the air filter. Water would have to fill that entire box to get to the filter. The box has drain holes so that is very unlikely. You would have to be completely submerged to suck water into your intake. That little rubber piece isn't a seal. It's just a blocker.
The engine cover on these is there for looks and judging by all the foam underneath, it's there to stop noise. It also seems to trap a lot of dust under it on the engine. Do not wash engine, use light air pressure and nozzle to blow off. You don't have to cut the snorkel top, you can carefully heat the area and stretch the plastic up adding 1/4" vertical opening.
I think you're on the right track. The rubber flap on my GC was glued crooked between right and center clip restricting even more air and I got rid of that 4" piece of foam rubber in front of the snorkel(no water gets anywhere near there even in a downpour). and you can now hear the engine more. I've been thinking about a CAI for my Hemi GC but the more I study up on it the more I realize Mopar engineers have optimized the airflow for the engines no matter how goofy they look. You are not going to get any real power improvements on a stock engine. K&N stuff for this engine/chassic is not well engineered and any power comes from the high flow filters, problem is, these filters don't filter nearly as well as a Wix or OEM filter so you are shortening the life of your engine. I have also seen dyno sheets from aFe for their $476 Momentum GT, They show improvements in the midrange(2800 to 4000 rpm) but nothing much on the top end and a small spike of maybe 5 hp at redline. I am heading to the bone yard to get a lower air box and snorkel, maybe 2. I will be cutting off the silencers and using heat, epoxy and the extra plastic to optimize the snorkel and airbox.
Got any idea what the 4 inch piece of foam rubber is for that's in front of the snorkel(goes from where the windshield washer fill @ 45 degree angle). What exactly does this do other than restrict air to the snorkel? Thanks.
I think they meant for it to be a seal but water can't really get in there. And any small amount of water that does will just go out the drains at the bottom. it's really just an unnecessary restriction. In fact the Durango with the same engine and air box doesn't even have that piece. Making it even more obvious to me that's it's just a waste of rubber and glue and should be removed so that you can get mor e air.
That's all it does is restrict air. I think they meant for it to keep water out but there is no way enough water is getting in there to cause problems unless you're submerged in water. If you are submerged that seal isn't going to save you lol.
....did u use the grinding wheel on the grinder instead of a cutting disc? Lmao
That's how it goes sometimes when your garage is a kitchen. Lol!
your gonna get in trouble doing that to your rental
get some lucus bud
that seal stops water from getting sucked into the breather.
There is more than enough space between the air filter and the bottom of the air box. You would pretty much have to be submerged for water to get in there. That seal is just a restriction.

My 2012 runs at 215-219 consistently. Ive changed out my thermostat twice already.
What transmission model? Thanks.
Another mod but will cost some is look at junkyards or ebay for a full size spare if people like that.
what type and the model of car your car?
2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Good mods except I dont understand the spare tire one. Reversing the tire actually hides extra space instead of add to it right? Simply get rid of the foam thing.
I did that first but then the spare is wobbly. I chose to remove the foam and flip it because it gives a couple extra inches clearance on top to fit my tool set on top..
I see what happened Guenther. You have the space saver spare and I have full size spare. That is why you have a doughnut and you can take it out; no doughnut for me. On reversing the spare- it is well worth it also because you can check tire pressure with the spare reversed. My tire only had 20 psi when I checked it.
If you remove the rubber gasket under the hood (as he did in the beginning) to let more air into the snorkel, won't water during rain storms and from other cars in the rain cause water to get into the snorkel as well? That's not good just to make the engine sound meatier.
No it's not a problem. The snorkel goes into the bottom of the air box. The filter is all the way at the top. If there is enough water to fill that up to the filters level you have bigger problems to worry about.
Does it affect if I have a cold air intake dont want water getting the intake to wet
How many cans of primer and paint did u use?
How many cans of primer and paint did u use?
Gahbage advice
You should make a better video and post it
You got some noisy lifters
How did they hold up? Tire changes..etc?
Almost 2 years later the Duplicolor paint has held up pretty well. It hasn't separated or flaked at all. There are a few rock chips and an. . . ahem, uhhh curb scrape that I did. Even the factory coating was getting rock chips though. Those rocks just don't give a damn. But the color has held up really nicely.
Whoever thumbsed this down has to come help me change the exhaust.
Appreciate the time u put in on making the vid. I just bought my Overland and I'm interested in exterior mods.
Keep it up, 👍👍

Did you end up doing it? Did you like it?? I thought it was great. Made gooood noises. A few months after I made this video I was able to find a K&N intake for a great price. The K&N is a little bit louder. I love it!
Good idea about removing the engine cover! Especially during the summer months. Should improve MPG?
Straight up ricer mods lol
How we do in West Valley : )
JonP227GT you are the ricer
The big resonator is actually the muffler and those mufflers you pulled off are actually resonators... swapped the resonators on my srt8 charger with flow master copycats (thrush welded) and barely made any sound difference until I had the mid muffler removed and had pipes welded in place that was when I could hear as well as feel the improvement. Also a suggestion if you could find a srt 6.1 intake tube and box that would help the 5.7 breath a lot better not sure how much modification would be needed but it's something to look into
No matter what you call them there are too many mufflers/resonators in my opinion. The SRT intake is a good Idea. I was concentrating on free mods for this video but that would be a good cheap mod for sure. I definitely need another project.
SRTJeff 618 your correct these have a mid muffler and 2 rear resonators.
