09-14 F150 5.0 Starter Replacement
มุมมอง 49K4 ปีที่แล้ว
This truck had been doing this for a couple weeks and was progressively getting worse. So if your truck is making this sound id say you should have a few weeks before it finally poops out. Sorry for making it short is was in the mid-20's outside. The auto store also sold me the wrong starter at first so i had to go get the right one. If you have ANY questions don't hesitate to ask below i will ...

I fixes that leak with a brass seal and silicon. The it started leaking from the valve cover bolts 😢
Radio code?
Never needed one. I had an aftermarket radio. I hope you figured it out.
Why do you replace 2 parts an only give one part #?
Excellent video. I'm fixing to replace my starter on a 2010 F150 4.6, I hope it's similar. Again excellent video, Thanks.
6 point 1/4 drive fits right in there for the EGR bolts
I changed the cap but didn't move all that
Awesome! I needed to change my EGR gasket though, so that’s why I took it off.
Thanks , I learned alot , 👍
Did your starter have a nose cone on it? Or just exposed gear? I need to order one to put a starter on my truck 5.0 v8
I’m not sure what you’re asking. I took the old one off and took it with me so I knew I bought the right one.
Changed that plug like 3 times already and it’s still leaking
Was here too! ✌👍🏻
Nuts ot bolts
That is a Nut , not a Bolt. 🙃
Yeah I know. I’ve gotten so many comments about it. I don’t have an excuse lol. Whoops
Thanks
Not sure why.. but I don’t have near that much room between the end of the starter and the motor mount.
Maybe it’s been replaced before and it’s not stock? Idk
@@Dubya very well could be but it looks to be factory. Then upon replacing, the aftermarket brand I used was an exact match. I barely have half an inch or less clearance on the end of the starter to the motor mount I think.
That’s weird. Well I hope you got it all switched. Hope my video helped!!
1/4 in Drive with a 1/4 in wobble 12 mm socket it fits right in there right on the nut. Some reviews on the cap it ok just behind the oring no sealants on the valve seal.
I had the same problem getting the nuts off in my car. I got lucky on the outer nut. For that b*tch of an inner nut - I used a hammer to slam the ratchet extension as straight as I could and (on day 2) I finally caught enough of the nut to get it off. THANK GOD. Honda is great but they had so many chances to make this easier. Shame on Honda. My valve was absolutely riddled with carbon btw and seized. At least it was a much needed repair
It was a pain to get loose. I think if I had a 1/4” set at the time with a swivel I would of been fine.
@@Dubya I feel the same way but I'm not sure it would have seated properly even with a proper sized swivel. The whole stud came out with the nut so I guess mine seized in some way. When I put both nuts back in I just tightened them enough for a decent seal. So if I need to get it off again it should be pretty simple
Nice yeah it was in a pretty tight spot
i had no problem wit the egr nuts i just drove the whole stud out thanks to my Milwaukee lmao
Was very curious & this video popped out of nowhere ! It was meant to be. Thanks for the video ! Keep up the great work 👍🏼
I was actually able to replace the cap without removing the EGR valve. Just have to prop a screwdriver on the wire harness cabling behind the valve by the plug hole so the plug didn't fall once the space got too small for me to maneuver, and presto!
What is that piece that looks like a filter that you replaced the gasket from
The EGR valve?
I don’t know anything so I’m gonna ask this question: should we drain all of the oil out before we do this? I’ve got oil coming out all over the place and I’m thinking this might be it. I’m gonna go out and take a look.
No the plug sits above the resting oil level. There's no need to drain the oil.
@@Dubya Thank you!
I had problems fitting a 3/8 drive socket and extension on the EGR nuts, so I got a 12mm socket with a 1/4 inch drive extension and the socket was a 6 point, it fit on the nuts better than a 12 point and didn't slip...nuts are super tight do be careful.
Thanks for the info. Hopefully it’ll help some people out!
Did the same exact method👍
Outstanding hoss
Nice, clear and simple
Lol went from old to new and goes "I skipped a little" hey im just happy you showed the bolt locations. Ford starters suck...
Yeah sorry about that. If I had someone to hold the camera I could gotten a little more. That is a poor design.
you dont have to take that off to remove or install the plug and your air intake now takes hot air from the engine bay instead of cooler air from under the wheel well...you kids never learn
Obviously but it’s easier and I shortened the intake because it was sucking in water.
Where did you get your Value Cover from the red one
I’m not sure what your asking…
Great video thanks alot big help for me
Great Report. Thank You .
Thanks so much , I replaced PCV valve on 05 civic then attempted to replace seal but couldn't get the one nut off the EGR valve, Now I can .Thanks again from a Grateful Canadian 🇨🇦
Good job but no need for the sealer on the egr gasket 😃
Yeah just additional protection lol
U just replaced the one on my nephew's 2001. It did not have an EGR valve. The original seal was very brittle.
I have a 2001 Civic as well with this leak. There is no EGR blocking the cam plug. This video and another had me confused. Amazon also says the cam plug recommended here won't fit.
@@stephenshahan3501 Maybe it's emissions dependant. I just got an OE one from my local Honda dealer (who is AWESOME!) They are really cheap to buy. Super simple to install.
Am I the only one who saw a crack next to the cap?
Where?
@@Dubya to the left of the cap, there's a little crack
That’s an oil stain. That’s not a crack
Let me Quickly show how to replace your starter (removes 2 easy to get to bolts) I skipped taping a few steps but now its fully removed and installed, hope that helps.
Lol if you can’t figure out where the bolts went that you took out that’s sad
@@Dubya it's the removing of the bolt, the hidden one on the top that requires a combination of sockets and extensions which is the only tough part of the job. But, let's cut to the installed starter
Use craftsman when I used cheap tools to do my head gasket I kept stripping the bolts
Craftsman is cheap tools
Craftsman when it comes to power tools I think can be commonly agreed upon as not being close to the very best- and they probably do lean toward the cheaper side of these things in their market class considered... However, I think they certainly still do, and for the most part always have, made very decent mechanics hand tools overall. Though generally not regarded as very expensive or among the most impressive to the common man, these of which I really don't think are regarded or known by most to be "cheap tools" though either. That goes for both the literal price tag averages, as well as for the general build quality concerning their mechanics hand tools overall 🤙
Craftsman like everything else ain't what they used to be, they started making them in Japan usually cheaper made is just that. I think its more the 12 point socket, why they still make them I'm not sure. Go with 6 point, a lot more contact area almost impossible to round nuts or bolts, if you have a good straight fit & not seized up might get by with junk 12 pt. Thats my opinion.
What size extension did you use? I can't find the right size one to get at that top bolt
If I remember right it was just a 6” extension. Once I broke it lose I had to remove the socket wrench and use my fingers since there wasn’t much room. Also the socket was short.
Watched to make sure I still knew how to do the job. Wiring different as I got new truck but same process, thanks man.
No problem. Glad to help!
Did anyone have a problem with that bolt colser in between the cap and egr ??? I bought the suggested 5 nut kid to get it loose and instead it’s all stripped. What does anyone suggest?
Why would you listen to anybody that doesn’t know the difference between a bolt and a nut?
I keep having to put oil in every couple days I’m getting the valve cover fixed today then going to go down the list this is next to do might do it myself💯 thank you for the video
Felt bro did u ever figure it out v
@@erikdickerson929 idk if you still have a leak but changing all of the VTEC solenoids gaskets fixed mine
Nice video. How has it held up over time ?
This is useless if your not actually gunma show how you got in there
It’s a 6” extension with a short socket. I show exactly where it is. It was hard to record me getting it with only two hands.
Gracias amigo por tu video me enseño mucho
De nada!
Take away the thermostat ,its enough room to take the locknut out assembly.
Crows feet dog
I know. I didn’t have any
@@Dubyadidn't have any or didn't think of it? You have said both now. Here's a lil tip for you, get all 6 pt sockets stay away from 12 pt they probably round off more nuts & bolts than anything else
Great video very informative bro thanks
Thank you...
Kick azz man. This made it easy except for that one bolt. There is always that "one" bolt on any repair . Ha 👊
Thanks man. Yeah I wish I would of done better for that bolt. I needed another hand lol
My philosophy is to always start with the hardest bolt.
@@j.hood1191 that’s a good philosophy. That way the rest of the job goes much easier and smooth lol
What the name of that plug
There’s links in the description to the part.
quick tip for those bolts use a 3/8 in drive joint extention plus another extension for those egr valve bolts. will save you a lot of trouble
