How Apollo's OBJECTION theme tells his whole story
Apollo's got a theme song! Let's see how it changes throughout his journey, and what that can tell us about him.
With the release of the [controversially titled] Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy, I've been listening to the soundtrack again, and it's given me a new perspective on a character I've always loved, but couldn't always explain why.
So let's talk about the different versions of Apollo Justice - A New Era Begins! / A New Chapter of Trials! / A New Trial is in Session! / however they're translating it this week.

    This was really informative, and definitely helped me notice things I hadn't before. Apollo's music is so peak, and it's one of many reasons he's my favorite protagonist in the series (Yes, I love AA4).

    I absolutely fell in love with Apollo's theme after hearing Dual Destinies take on it and it became my favorite track in the whole series. I also interpreted the solo as conflicted before it builds its confidence and picks itself back up again (Pretty good metaphor for the series actually). That part even reflects in AA4s first promo when Phoenix is introduced with the quotes "The defendant has the right to refuse to testify" and "Let's put the past behind us, shall we?" where he's lost his way but there's still hope that he'll rise from the ashes again. I thought it was cool how each arrangement reflected his journey in the Apollo trilogy and even if Spirit of Justice is a nice bookend to Apollo's story, I hope we get him in an AA7 just so I can hear another version.

    Yoooo, this video was great!! I ADORE, Apollo Justice so so much. I did an english cover of his theme this year using the themes from his entire trilogy, and idk, there's just something so hopeful about it. I love it so so much. Hello, good video, i'm from Brazil. Ace attorney soundtrack is one of my favorite of all videogames, so memorable as undertale and final fantasy ost. Sadly we don't have a proper localization for ace attorney games, AA1 to AA4 and miles edgeworth games were translated by a fan team named Jacutem Sabão, the fan localization for AA5 and AA chronicles are in development. Despite this, Jacutem Sabão did an amazing job, the translation was so iconic, funny and very well adapted to our culture, which consequently bring new fans who didn't know nothing about the game. I'm playing apollo justice trilogy now, even without the translation, thanks to the fan translation i can understand the story and personality of apollo, trucy, klavier, phoenix, edgeworth, ema, etc.

    Okay, tell me if it's an auditive hallucination or something. The notes at 11:17, I love this part, but they make my brain jump back to something in the theme of the Troupe Gramarye (the one who usually plays with Valant Gramarye). Am I the only one with that feeling? Cause if it's some kind of subtle leitmotiv linking him to the Gramarye, it's very smart, knowing Apollo's relatives.

    I love that we see Apollo’s Arc in his theme. After all he is named after the God of music 😂. I have doubts if his arc in SoJ was done with love of his character but, I’m glad they gave him a satisfying musical send off. Or who knows?! Maybe they didn’t think so deeply on the music for his character and we are all just over analyzing things. Either way, it is so much fun.🤩

    Fun fact: There’s an early version of Apollo’s objection theme in the Flash and Kiosk demos of AJAA, and unlike the final version, this one is sequenced and not streamed, and has fewer instruments. It also lacks the melody that comes in after 16 beats. I’d interpret the lack of a melody as him completely losing his voice because of all the shouting he does, (which actually does happen at the end of the demo before Kristoph reveals it was a mock trial) but it’s definitely not intentional.

    • @thechattysloth
      @thechattysloth หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh that is fascinating, I'd never heard/seen that before! I was surprised how stressful it felt without that melody, it's almost like it needs it to feel like his confidence is there. Poor Apollo losing his voice to his chords of steel at the end though, haha. Definitely a creative way to end the demo!

I’ve also come to appreciate Apollo’s character development more as I’ve looked further into the second trilogy. I’d love it if you made more Ace Attorney videos! I’m still hoping for an Apollo Justice anime with original episodes featuring Gavin Bros backstory CAPCOM PLS! 😭 Klavier’s also just one of my favorite prosecutors I think he’s so underrated! He’s SUCH an important step in Apollo’s journey to define what the law means to him!

    Probs my own opinion, but like, DD sounds so hard to me, not only sounds, FEELS hard to play, like, very much the other way around I've been playing AA games. Like... DD does NOT feels like a real continuation of the original Apollo Justice game. Yet, the music never feels off!

    Back to you with some thoughts after I watched your video again ! I am thinking literature. - Just like you, I love the part where in order to defeat the Aegleca, the team has to deliver lines of the love letters by heart, not just by reading them. I definitely see an echo here of Bradbury's novel "Fahrenheit 451" in which in order to save books & literature from total erasure, the characters have to learn by heart sections of every book ever written. The same "by heart", meaning feeling literature (the letters) and speaking it, brings Odette back to life, erase the Aegleca (the erasing authority in Bradbury's novel) & save the lives of Nancy and her friends. Knowing, sharing and shouting literature saves lives in this episode. Which is taking it a nice big step up & further from Episode 1.03, in which literature is also a key : it buys Nick a future, literally, for once he's solved Tiffany's riddles based on their common love & insight of classic books (the first of of which, The Count of Monte Cristo, echoes Nick's jail and redemption experience), he gets the fortune she's left him. I kind of link these two episodes. - And further on Odette. I have been wondering about this choice of a first name for her ? I don't know if you have some clues as to this choice of a name, but safe for any other explanation I don't get, the first thing is that it strikes me as weirdly out of place : Odette was a European first name in the Middle-Ages (years 1100), got a revival in the 1910-20s, but seams completely out of place as an 18th/ early 19th century name. Except that again... it is such a literary name. For the French viewer that I am, the first name "Odette", any Odette, is necessarily associated with that character from "Swann's way", one of the most famous French novels of the early 20's century (do we know any other Odette ?): in the novel, Odette is a mystery all along. By marriage, she becomes Odette Swann, while in the series, "Lamar", Odette's last name, means "pond" in French ("la mare). From "Swann" to "Pond", definitely, Odette is a creature of literature & water, deep down to her name. I do believe that this was thought over by the writers, but yet I can't help but thinking that at some point, fictional characters sometimes overtake the writers and have more substance than what was written for them. I think it does happen quite a lot in Nancy Drew (less sure about that in season 4, though), and I just love that.

    • @thechattysloth
      @thechattysloth 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I love Fahrenheit 451! Great reference there, I'm definitely going to spend some time thinking about the connection to Nick and his earlier episode. Thank you for pointing me towards the French novel! I hadn't heard of Swann's Way before, but after looking into it it, in addition to the things you pointed out, it sounds like the character of Odette is in a marriage to a guy who doesn't see or appreciate her for who she is, and she doesn't love. And the general novel has themes of triggering memories. As an American, when I think of 'Odette' I think of Swan Lake. In that story she's also under a transformation curse, which can only be broken by love. The one who promises to love her also ends up (accidentally) breaking that promise, and poor Odette gets a tragic ending. Although it does sound like modern productions have started giving it a happy ending. I'm guessing that's what the writers were drawing from, but I'm definitely not counting out the novel either. Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments, I've really appreciated them!

    • @thechattysloth
      @thechattysloth 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Right about Bess, George, and Carson! Nick is in the books, but he goes by Ned there. Ace is odd because he does seem to be a completely new character, but they drop hints he's actually a Hardy Boy. 👀
