Cracked head? 01 Arctic cat 500

So is there anything else that this could be other than a cracked head? Coolant has been draining into the crank case. Thought it was water pump seal. Clearly not.

    Is this the D650 or D750 engine. Did you find a block?

    • @strattonmodshop1727
      @strattonmodshop1727 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s the d650. However I would’ve swapped a 750 in if I could’ve found one. Yeah I found a complete short block for it.

    Use the TA. At the beginning of the video you dropped the plow and just rode the clutch out in direct drive. When driving Farmalls, I would never start in Hi/direct with a plow (and would try not to drop the plow while stopped when I can help it, rather while rolling). Shift to Hi once you get rolling, that's what the TA is there for (well, one thing it's there for anyway).

      TA stands for torque amplifier, so its no powershift. if you use it to upshift alot it will break, thats at least what they tell me

    • @TonyM132
      @TonyM132 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@reiniervanderheijden1260 Torque Amplifier absolutely is a power shift, a two-speed power shift to be specific. The term "power shift" refers to any shifting of fixed gear ratios (not infinitely variable) without clutching, which is exactly what TA does. Using it often will not cause it to break! TAs have been known to fail by slipping, but this is almost always do to improper use. When upshifting from low-TA to direct, you should always throw the lever swiftly forward. Some people tended to "feather" it forward, and that kind of use is what can cause excessive wear and eventually failure. As long as you always move the lever forward quickly, you can and should shift the TA as often as you like under full power, it will be fine! In later years, on the IH 3088 2WD series and 6088 4WD series, as well as on CaseIH 85, 95, and 32/4200 series, the TA became electronically engaged. Slowly slipping the TA when shifting it was no longer possible, so no more problems.

      @@happyjohn8256 Ouch, 10 grand in the 1980's was really big money for a single repair visit. Was your 1566 turned up much? I know a lot of 15's were turned up to 180, 200, or even more PTO HP.

    • @TonyM132
      @TonyM132 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@happyjohn8256 Oh, I believe you. A 6x14 plow should be quite easy for a 1566. My brother pulled 7 bottom 16" with his 1066. Even if it was turned up, we hear common stories about 15's turned up to 200 HP and running well that way for years. Those planetary rear ends are durable.

      @@happyjohn8256 Hmm, forage harvester, huh. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear it was a bad experience for you. FYI, unless someone changed the engine, a 1566 or 86 has a DT436. The 466 wasn't used in 2WD IH tractors until the 88 series.
