She is so right! I recently had my hair braided up for 4 weeks. I sprayed my scalp a few times a week with my water + aloe vera juice and occasionally oiled my scalp/hair whenever I felt I needed it. I am a bit shocked at how my much new growth I have at 4 weeks! I am determined to keep up this routine for the next 1-2 years! My new hair goal is to grow my hair by 2-4 inches. The middle + back of my hair is currently just hitting my collar bone. My goal is to maintain length retention and to finally grow it well past that threshold. Best wishes ladies!! SECRET TO HAIR GROWTH AND HEALTHY SCALP: 1. A balanced diet 2. Drinking water 3. Washing and conditioning every 1-2 weeks (preferably weekly) 4. Being gentle and patient with detangling (always finger detangle first) 5. Low manipulation styling 6. A trim every 4-6 months 7. (recommended but not required) regular green tea scalp rinses to block DHT You do these 6-7 things and your hair will flourish (at whatever rate predetermined by your genetics) and your scalp will be healthy! My daughter has hair just like this. I love it. It's soooo easy to do. It stays how I put it. Her braids stay for a month. Her hair is super long and think.

This is true but you can also grow your hair without keeping it in braids. The key is don’t do too much. Leave it alone as much as possible but that can be in a wash and go, silk press etc

And sis, that’s exactly why I loc’d up. I am much too vain not to always be sitting pretty. Also, I have to wash my hair 3 to 5 times a week to feel fresh and clean. Who in the heck wants their hair to look that matted and dirty looking for 3 months? I know she said she washes it while in the braids, but for real? I too swear by the hair oiling, but I have long healthy hair and I don't have to look like a runaway slave for 3 months in order to get it. I do agree to be delicate with your hair, try not to do a lot of extra messing with it and tucking the ends, but letting all of that new growth just mat up for three months is different. Well...to each is own. Her hair is beautiful once it finally gets unmatted.

I told people this during the pandemic because that’s how I honestly keep my daughter and I’s hair. And people told me that I was dirty and that our stink and the said I was bad mother for keeping my daughter hair like this and she must get bullied because of her hair. Now my daughter’s hair doesn’t look as overgrown as yours because she’s a teenager but I still keep it in for at least 2-3 months at a time. But we’re clearly the opposite of any of those things. All kinds of people said those things about us but the majority were black women and it’s sad.

If I need to look like that daily to grow hair, I am okay with hair a little less long! I don’t see the point of that. I want to look nice daily and enjoy my hair daily. This method screams, plastic on the couch syndrome. Just care for your hair gently and care for its health and it will be healthy. Yes the more you do to it the more “possible” hair damage, but I have long hair and I get to enjoy and look beautiful daily.
