I am a poet and fiction writer. I write mainly about gender, class, and Appalachia, though you never know what else might pop up. After I read my work, I typically give a brief commentary about either the impetus for the poem or something about the publishing industry, so stick around after the poem for the mayhem. This channel also houses videos of interviews with other writers, as well as periodic videos of me memorizing other people's poems.
The Meter Cute Interviews started as a way to let me have cool conversations with cool people, just like I used to have when I was teaching, but I don't have to grade anyone!
This channel is a fun endeavor for me, so don't expect Mr. Beast-level antics or editing. We're just vibing with writing.

Falling in Love with Paul Fussell and Lee Ann Roripaugh: A Meter Cute Interview with Heidi Czerwiec
มุมมอง 129 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
On this episode of the Meter Cute, I chatted with essayist and poet Heidi Czerwiec about resonance, mushrooms, and crafting lyric essays. As well as the ways the work of Paul Fussell and Lee Ann Roripaugh's work shook up her world and her writing. (And the theorists I was thinking of during the interview were Deleuze and Guattari, though Hardt and Negri also works to an extent too.) To order a ...

I thought of this story by my favorite writer when you talked about writing mushrooms. xenoflesh.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/ursula-k.-le-guin.pdf
You are walking on air about 3 feet off the ground now. Good to see you happy.
@@JohnandJanetSchomburg Thank you!
I need this book! I also loved teaching 8th grade. People don’t understand if they haven’t been there!
My copy came today and I'm really excited to read it!
Hi Jen. Marisa here. Just wanted to say that I love your channel, and I am very inspired by you. ☺️
Thanks, Marisa! I'm glad you're liking the channel!
Lovely Pantoum!
We need more historical frames to orient ourselves in the world. Thank you for this content.
Love this!
Thanks!
I liked the emphasis on Canadian poetry from two exemplars.
Yeah as much as I loved my mom she was a lot to handle
And I'm in Moon Water!
Jen, I'm in the poetry critique group with Marie-Andree and Adrienne and a couple others It is great.
Maree-Andree I love the idea of the path not existing until I walk it
Love it and ur vibe
OK Jethro Tull! Yes!
This is hilarious because I have no idea who or what most of this music is!
Most of it was Eurovision stuff. I'm a big Eurovision fan!
Very enjoyable reading😁
I describe writing poetry in forms as like being in a cage with the latch open. I have parameters and rules but there is room...
That's a really lovely way to phrase it!
Very enjoyable, I read along in my copy.
P.S. thanks so much for the mention!
I am definitely looking for some Crozier! How jealous I am that you met Atwood! I love M😢ary Oliver's Dog Songs so I can see a correlation! Totally love the advice poem! And yes...there is nothing efficient about aging!
This went too fast!
It was so fun chatting, it was easy to lose track of time!
I have multiple essays I wrote several years ago that I will some day go back and revise
I have several grandmother poems!
She doesn't happen to have been Appalachian, does she?
@@meterandmayhem Me? My maternal grandmother was from Tennessee
@@monamehas5989 I'm going to email you (i mean, I don't know why I'm telling you that, you'll just see the email, but I guess so if someone else sees this they don't think I'm ignoring you? :) )
@@meterandmayhem So funny!
Love the Grandmother Poem, Story.
Excellent interview!
I've written sestinas and villanelles but I haven't tried the Duplex.
A new thing to try!
Lovely poems. I might need to get this Anthology...
And there are a lot of PWC folks in it! I know I'm in there and Patricia, I think there are some others too! I can't remember if she says it in the reading or not, but Annie has a poem on the back cover!
I need to get this book for my friend
I love Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist!
Me too! It really should have gotten another season!
Yes! Star Trek!
I love prose poetry and I always have a radio in my head. I'm glad I'm not the only one. "Music is sexually transmitted" I love it!
First
I love the emphasis on OUTER banks in the intro.
"That Heather was way more raw" Man I totally understand that sentiment.
I love the Good Wife!
Because I don't hear meter, this was like I was listening to a foreign language.
a beautiful one, I hope?!
@@AnnieFinchPoet of course!
@@monamehas5989 if you want to learn the language a bit, I do have resources--youtube channel, online community, newsletter, etc!:)
thank you Jen
You did 10 submissions a month? I sometimes do 10 a day!
Oh wow, how many days did you do that in a month? You are a submission rock star! During your interview we'll have to talk about it and you can give us some tips!
Shaky cam!
Such a great point about the blood of war and the blood of women.
This demonic monster is part of what destoed our societies.
Not fun but interesting
Amazing!!
Good to hear you after a long time.
As always you're looking beautiful ❤
This was excellent. I'm 68 and I write about my messed up childhood - now. But I barely wrote at all until my sister died in 2019.
I write about my family now, but I wonder how much more I will write once they're gone.
I love that Hannah pulled her ear and said "multi religion Pah." (Star Trek DS9)
Oh, I didn't even notice that! Cool!
I thought this was going to be for your cousin Joe who is having a birthday today. Looking beautiful there, Jen.
I didn't even think of that! I do have a poem about that Joe, but it's more of an intense and gothic poem, maybe not the birthday sharing kind of thing.
Joe is intense, Gothic. @@meterandmayhem
Songs like that too: Horse With No Name, Shelter....
