    Would it be faster to do this on a smaller video with the same set up? Like denoising a 1080p video? Or upscaling a SD video to 4k and denoising it? Or is it all super slow? I honestly can't tell with the lack of information online about actual high end video upscaling. This is the first sober video I've seen on it.

    • @Finite-Tuning
      @Finite-Tuning 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      For a typical movie to upscale and de-noise a 1080 to 4K my rig will hold about 11fps and renders a full movie in about 4.5 hrs. The example shown in this video was a worst case scenario with stacked models. But cleaning up 4K HDR videos are always just slow like this.

    I have an RTX 3060ti and I am getting the same results as you. 2-6 fps. My video footage is horrible because it was shot in bad lighting conditions. So I need to denoise and upscale from 1080 to 4k. 1 hour of footage takes about 8 to 10 hours. The good thing is that my computer doesn't lag while exporting videos. The GTX 5000 series of GPUs is being released this month (January 2025) and has doubled to triple the Tensor Cores of the 4000 series. So hopefully AI performance will be much better in Topas Video AI.

    • @Finite-Tuning
      @Finite-Tuning 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm expecting about a 30% increase in render performance with a 5090 which for the video shown here will equal 0.4 to 0.6 more FPS. Which in turn equals 4-6 hours less render time. I hope the 50 series will do better, but I don't expect more then about 30%. If it's it's much less then a 30% improvement, then I'll probably end up sending mine back. The example shown in this video is a worst case scenario, most renders are not this involved. For the average movie that I upscale and enhance form 1080 to 4k, I normally hold around 11 fps. The average movie is finished in about 4.5 hrs. The example movie shown in this video took 20 hours total render time. And it was unwatchable! Topaz video AI is very broken software anymore, they seem to get worse with each update. Cheers and good luck 🍻

    Great video! I was wondering about upgrading my hardware for 'AI-Remaster' just to fit for my eyes, too. this video helped a lot. After watching this, some questions pop up in my mind though.. 1. Some of the sources are saying Topaz Video AI takes CPU for certain tasks, and GPU for certain tasks(of course some combined). Do you think this is the problem with the bottleneck you're suffering with? I mean, it's clearly a bottleneck since it's not utilizing CPU and GPU at a max level even though it's watercooled. also, seems like it's double-enhanced, so i can't tell if certain task uses CPU/GPU. i lowkey thought it's a bottleneck with RAM/IO/VRAM, but since 1 frame of a movie takes so little space so highly doubting it. 2. If you're planning to upgrade your CPU, will it be more bound to the frequency or cache, or the number of threads/cores? 13900K sure does a job well done, but sometimes the P-Core and E-Core matters, and some of the caching tasks are more faster on AMD's V-Cache thingy. As far as i can tell with your task manager screen, i think it's more bound to the thread count, but still not sure. 3. Do you think the 'Rasterization' performance of the GPU matters the most? With RTX 5090 coming out, I think it's more of a 'AI utilization' problem, but i don't know if the Topaz AI uses Tensor Core on GPU or just cores for rendering(We can obviously look up for AMD GPU's results to validate this claim. if AMD GPUs takes much, much more time compared to its raw performance, Nvidia GPUs must be using Tensor cores for Topaz). I'm hoping the new RTX 50 series to at least reduce times for these much more, but I'm too scared to throw the money blindly for 1999$ power-hungry monster, which might improve the task by ~15%.

    • @Finite-Tuning
      @Finite-Tuning 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      First, I'm glad you liked the video. Second, what exactly did you see that makes you think of the word and term "bottleneck"? This is what real work looks like to a computer, it's nothing like playing games or synthetic benchmarks. No single part of the system will ever hit and hold 100% utilization doing real work like video rendering. There will always be some fluctuation with this type of work since nothing is perfectly optimized for it. There is no single area that is really any more important than another with this type of work, because it's just system dependent. I run 4 different upscalers currently, and they will all put a top end system right on it's ass! There is no such thing as too much compute power, there is only the lack of it in this case. Which is why Topaz is renting servers for online upscaling since most don't have a $4k rig at home, and even if they did, a bunch of servers are still way faster! That's what most don't seem to understand about this kind of work. It's not about a faster part that doesn't exist, but rather it's all about getting more of the same parts to do the work in tandem. That's how super computers work, and to do this kind of video work, you either need a super computer at the ready or a day's worth of patience. I will be getting a 5090 when available, but can you guess what kind of difference it will make to this kind of work load? Well, if it's 30% more powerful than a 4090 then I can expect about 0.4 to 0.6 extra FPS on the same render shown in this video. Somewhere between 4 and 6 hours faster to render this entire video which took 20 hours total if memory serves. It may not sound like a lot, but it adds up real fast. If you want to build a system for doing this kind of work, then look to the sky for your spending limit and just start puking money. Or, build something reasonable and just be patient. Or, just rent the processing power online to do the job. But keep in mind there will be a failure rate. Topaz Video AI is a very broken program and only certain parts of it work. They seem to break more shit with each new update. You won't know the render is broken until it's too late. This exact video shown here, the one that took 20 hours to render out was complete garbage! All that time, electricity, money, and it was unwatchable! Currently they can't produce a working h265 mkv video, and that's been broken for over 6 months now and they fucking know it! Yeah, it's a mixed bag of pain and pleasure doing this kind of work, mostly pain 😁. Cheers and good luck 🍻

      @asht05166 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Finite-Tuning Thanks for the reply! it's a great insight with only enthusiasts can share. About the weird term 'bottleneck', i refered that as the problem with software-hardware relationship("Optimization" you mentioned). The games / rendering tasks like you mentioned often has no issue with those, since they uses a very advanced utilization method(Like the pre-built APIs which will use the hardware in max throttle), while it looks like the Topaz's software doesn't. When the problem occurs within software-hardware, the ones with strange specs might be more efficient in that case. such as Apple Silicon, which has a massive cache and I/O bandwidth compared to traditional Windows Desktops. people love using Topaz's software on Apple devices, and i assume that's because it's not using the full resources of Nvidia/AMD GPUs, not the reason that it's 'optimized for Apple hardware'. Even the individual Video Enhance Models utilizes the GPU greatly, such as frame interpolation and VSRs(Video Super Resolution). and the difference comes from the utilizations i mentioned. in this case, it uses CUDA cores and VRAM a lot, resulting very high GPU usage all the time while newer gen GPUs can reduce the time much more than just using the raw computing component. Even the experimental video encoding/decoding method i studied in our lab utilized the poor 3090s that were suffering with high temp all the time.. However, if i'm wrong, and Topaz are doing great utilizing their software with Nvidia GPUs, the RTX 50 series will likely benefit from that. for example, the RTX 5090 has more power with processing multimedia, which could also help reducing the processing time. also with GDDR7's high bandwidth, too. and for me, that's why i'm expecting to buy 5090/5080 for the Topaz. if it only gets +0.4 to +0.6 fps improvement, it's gonna be heartbreaking to me. Overall, it's gonna be a no-brainer to buy RTX 50s, but I'm more concerned if this tech ever gonna be the mainstream due to its limit and 'lazyness' with Topaz updating their softwares meaninglessly.. Good luck with your enhancing project!

    Just a few points, first is it should be able to take it down 40° but even if you're getting 30 it's designed to be used mobile like in a car so if your car AC is on and you've got your temperature down about 65 then - 30 you get the point it's not designed to be sitting in the roasting sun and keeping your beer cool it's basically to keep your potato salad from turning into something that's going to give you tomain poisoning. I've got one that works fine the lid seal is very important to make sure that that is engaging you just got to lock the top down I don't know if yours is bent or deformed. And basically to give it a tune up you just simply need to redo the Thermal electric Pace that's in between the heat sinks and that'll make better contact and it will perform better how much better don't know cuz don't know the condition of your chip. Also not sure your supply is going to be able to give the same amount of amperage draw that you can get off of a 12-volt car battery. However did enjoy the video.

    • @Finite-Tuning
      @Finite-Tuning 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Even when sealed with tape, this thing cannot cool beyond the temperature shown. And as stated, it is functioning according to spec. It's not broken, it's just not capable. No amount of thermal paste can fix an under-powered TEC. The interior of a car will get much hotter then my test environment shown in the video. The automotive cigarette lighter/AUX plug in a vehicle is normally fused at 10 amps. The PC PSU's shown in this video are all 20 amps plus rated. This is just a poorly designed cooler that is incapable of cooling anything unless the entire thing is put into a cooler that actually works! I have all the pieces and parts to make this thing finally do it's job, I have not dedicated the time to finishing part two of this series, yet. But I'll get there eventually and this thing will finally work as a "cooler" by definition! Cheers 🍻

      Is there any proof of this? According to the Topaz website an M4 max can't even touch a 4090, let alone compete with one. Doing what I did in this video will put any PC on it's ass and keep it there, nothing on the market can render this type of work 'quickly', that's why renting servers to do the processing online is becoming more of a thing. It literally takes a super computer or a day's worth of patience to render this type of work load.

    It is what it is man. Topaz is the best at what it does. What I learned is that it's alway good to have a little bit of noise. I always ad 1% noise with noise size 1 for 1080p. If you're doing 4k I'd bump up the size to 2. The little bit of noise helps mask any imperfections from the Ai enhancements, because as good as it is it's not perfect.

    • @Finite-Tuning

      I use the Nyx model mostly since it does not seem to introduce any weird hallucinations and it seems to do the best job at fixing the one thing I just cannot stand, which is noise. Thankfully the program gives the option to control this factor for those that like noise, but I cannot stand the stuff! Noise is a secondary byproduct of a primary problem and I just hate it. video noise can mess with my eyes in the same way an out of focus picture does, I spend the entire movie searching for tack sharp images that simply don't exist. For me it's quite an eye strain. Cheers 🍻

    i also do it with a 3070 ti laptop man, i get around 1.4 fps to like 3.5 fps depending on the video file. I think i might get like 1.4 fps for a video like that, probably. Huge hardware difference will only get u like 1 more fps is kinda sad. Thanks for this video though, i was thinking of getting a 4090 PC for topaz video but it doesn't seem worth it for me.

      Yeah, performance is crap across the board for this type of work. It's even worse when you factor in the amount of electricity my system uses. For a task like this my rig pulls 650 - 700 watts continuously, and it pumps out half a ton worth of heat as well. I have a laptop with a 12th gen i9 and a 3080ti, and that pulls about 250 watts for a job like this. But it too runs hot as hell and it takes 3 times as long compared to this desktop. It's all poison I tell ya....! Cheers 🍻

    I want to assemble a desktop for 4K upscaling and work with Topaz Video-AI. And then revive many old movie classics that unfortunately won't get an ultraHD release. The guys in Russia are very far along in this. Some deliver as many as two movies in a day in great quality that e.g. James Cameron's upscales ( admit the latest J.C. upscale release from The Terminator is great) can't match yet. Now the guys from the AI upscale group have put together a system for me, which is against a budget of 3000 euros. What do you guys think is this AMD system suitable for the job? And is it compatible. That's fine, but I'd recommend at least a 1kw PSU and going with a 4080 super rather then a 4070 of any variant. For doing this job, you want the absolute most GPU that you can afford, and all venders use the same, exact, Nvidia chips! Paying more for a messily 25mhz boost in speed is ludicrous. Buy the cheapest 4080 super you can find, used, and then overclock it yourself. This for example: amzn.to/4friHGv The (manufacturers) name may change but the chip remains the same! It is the system in total that matters, but the single most important component for doing this type of work is the GPU, so splurge there if you can. SSD's may or may not matter to you, but here is an example of when it does matter for this type of work: th-cam.com/video/kB_dtTblA1Y/w-d-xo.html Cheers 🍻

      This isn't the bad build, but try upgrading to RTX 4080 while curving down your budget on RAMs and Motherboard. RAM clock speed or timing doesn't affect much on AMD CPUs, so you can save much on RAM. (also, 32GB would be enough if you're using Topaz.) Motherboard with cheaper price(B650 chipset) won't compromise anything, except less USB ports or M.2 slots(maybe), so you can apply those too. Liquid cooler isn't necessary with 7950X, but if you're gonna use the desktop 24/7 for rendering, it's recommended. The OP is right with the graphics card recommendation. top-end 4070Ti with massive cooling means +5% on performance maximum, so it's much wiser to buy the cheapest 4080(or super). If you're still hesitating, i think you should consider AMD's Ryzen 9900X + RTX 5070Ti for build. if you're in a rush, try buying the used hardware, like 7950X3D or 4080 Super.

      Cloud computing seems to be the direction most are heading towards, and then selling/buying tokens for access. Topaz is doing that too. And no body anywhere it seems had any data on doing any kind of real work with a 4090, it was all just gaming numbers. Well, now I/we know what a 4090 can really do, not'a lot'a.... So I really wouldn't expect much more from a 6000 series card. It probably takes multiples to make any real improvement.... Like cloud computing. Cheers 🍻
